Wolf 30
- KIM JONGIN -
Killing the inexperienced werewolves was unexpectedly... easy.
Chanyeol and I took the most capable ones, those aging a hundred years old and up. But they are fighting with the Alpha and Beta of the old pack, they would never stand a chance. Between the two of us, Chanyeol is the calmer one for he resorted on throwing the enemies to the ground unconscious instead of killing them.
But after everything they did to us, I give no mercy right now.
I cracked the skull of an attacking werewolf before he could even lay his sharp nails on my fur. He's old and totally not a fighter so throwing him to the growing fire with nothing but broken skull and bones made me feel angrier and more in need for dead traitors.
Without a second thought, I stormed towards the house, catching a glimpse of Baekhyun battling with a female werewolf. He sank his teeth around her neck in one swift move and in a blink of an eye, I heard a bone break.
Oh Sehun took care of the young werewolves who sneaked into the dark, trembling in fright. They even shifted back to their human forms when they saw Sehun with a deadly dagger in hand. They know how lethal the guy could be with a blade. Seems like Yifan forced them to do this. But sparing lives isn't a choice right now.
When I reached the front porch, I immediately caught Kyungsoo's scent. But this close and this chaotic, I could say the smell isn't lingering. It's a little bit old and overpowered by other smells. I turned just before another werewolf leaped for a kill. I can't help but smirk at his embarrassed reaction when I easily dodges his attacks.
I'm an Alpha. And I would always be the most powerful.
"Die or go," I hissed and he did, stumbling back into the forest in all fours.
I ignored the Hunters fighting for their lives. I don't know where Kyungsoo's mother is but I caught Baekhyun's glance as he finished putting someone on fire. "Look for her," I said. "Kyungsoo's not here."
Baekhyun gave the slightest of nods and when I rounded the house, I finally knew where he went. Afraid I'll lose track of his scent, I followed it immediately and I ran back into the path that leads no other than but to his Grandmother's cottage.
Usual nights would come with chilly breeze and creepy sounds from deep in the forest. But tonight, everything is different. My body's burning with adrenaline and I wanted nothing else but to reach that wooden bridge and take him with me. We're never coming back again.
Just when I'm about halfway along the path, I caught a familiar scent. Something I haven't smelled for so many days now. I gritted my teeth in anger. "Wu Yifan..."
The thought of his name just made me run faster until the forest is already a thick wall of steel around me. Everything's a blur and I have nothing in mind but Do Kyungsoo and his safety. He will not die tonight. No one will die tonight but that bastard. He will drop to his knees in nothing but blood and wounds and broken bones. He will not lay a hand on my mate.
Within seconds, I could already see the cottage so clearly. And in that exact moment, the door bursts open in dust and smoke producing a trembling, running figure into the darkness of the night. For a second I thought it was Kyungsoo and my heart leaped to my throat. But when I moved closer, I realized it's Wu Yifan.
He turned to my direction when he caught my scent. "J-jongin..." he stammered, dropping on his knees. "I-i... H-he's..."
"You..." I growled, stepping closer so I could look him down, make him kiss the earth. But before I could break his shoulder, another figure emerged from the broken door and I just can't believe my eyes. He is just like any other wolf aside from the bright green eyes and differently colored strands of his fur. Some strands are white, the other are black or grey. He is not the usual uni-colored werewolf from any other pack. This one's different... but absolutely more beautiful.
When his angry eyes fell to mine, all the rage vanished in an instant. "Jongin..." he whispered in a low, exhausted voice. "I'm... this." he almost sounds unbelieving, like he can't believe everything's not a dream.
I can't help but stare. He is a werewolf. He is definitely one of us now.
"J-jongin..." someone tugged unto my leg and I looked down to see Yifan on his knees, begging. "P-please... I can't s-shift..."
I heard a low growl from Kyungsoo as he took slow steps towards us. "Now you know how Baekhyun felt like when you tried to rape him..." I sneered, kicking him out of my way. "He was helpless... and afraid... and what did you do?"
Yifan landed on the ground clutching his side. He's wounded now and I could hear his heartbeat pound like crazy. I could smell fear. I could feel his coming death. "I was stupid!" he shouted. "Please don't let me die like this!" And when he said that, I want to laugh out loud and crush every bone in his body.
When Kyungsoo stopped a few steps from me, I could feel him oozing with power. For a moment, I didn't quite understand. He looked so fragile and vulnerable a few days before and now, I'm perfectly sure he could kill Yifan in a blink. But then I realized his family background and every secret opened to him by the Hunters. Finally now, he's claiming an inheritance.
"You killed my Grandmother!" Kyungsoo growled and my eyes went wide with shock. A different kind of anger washed through me and without another word, I leaped into Yifan, pinning him to the ground until my nails dug into his skin and cut his veins. Blood sprayed from the cut, dirtying my fur and the ground beneath us. But how sweet it is when he howled in pure pain.
"How dare you..." I sneered, baring my canines to his face. "That was an old woman!"
Yifan is already crying but I felt no sympathy. When he didn't answer, I pressed unto the veins until I could sense Kyungsoo looking away in fright. "S-she fought b-back!" Yifan choked, saliva dripping from his mouth. "I had t-to kill her!"
I leaned closer until my teeth touch the tip of his nose and sticky saliva dripped from my canines to his face. Worth it. "You tried to kill my mate." I hissed and the anger is almost unbearable now. "You would kill him without a fight? You would tear his body like a helpless prey? Eat his meat like all those human you killed before?" A low growl erupted from my throat. "Well hear this, Wu Yifan. I will kill you. And I'll spare no mercy."
A sob escaped his wounded lips. "J-jongin! Please!" he cried as he tried to hold unto my fur. "N-no! I don't deserve this!"
"How do you want your death?" I breathed, ignoring his pleas. "Slow? Like this?" Then I ran a long, sharp nail along his thigh, cutting through his meat and to the bone underneath. His pain is like music to my ears right now and I feel so evil. Maybe anger could do this to me.
"Jongin!" Kyungsoo suddenly called, making me step away from Yifan's body with a start. "Stop... You can't kill him like this..." he whispered and when I looked back at him, his eyes are so green and soft and I can't help but drown into them. For some unknown reason, I realized it's the anger that could turn me into this kind of monster I promised I am not. I look into his green orbs and I realized I am not merciless and evil and unforgiving.
Slowly, I stepped away from Yifan and I forced all the images of blood out of my mind. It was almost nauseating but I managed and when I turned to Kyungsoo again, I felt a certain blanket of calmness drape over my body. Kyungsoo started to size me up, reading my expression and hesitantly, he walked towards me. The wait was painful, knowing I couldn't hold him the way I would want to. But when I stooped my head low and he pressed his forehead against mine, I wanted nothing more than that.
"You're not a monster..." Kyungsoo whispered and I could almost feel his lips against my ear. "You're not what those old books say you are, right?"
Before, it would take me exactly ten werewolves to keep me from what I would want to do. I never listened to other people. I would never trust anyone. But now, this beautiful creature could make me his puppet and I would never mind a bit.
When anger turns me into a killer. Do Kyungsoo turns me into someone more than that.
"You're a werewolf..." I whispered and I almost heard his laugh.
"I know," he whispered back. "It just... happened."
I took one, frightened glance into the cottage and it almost broke my heart. "Grandmother..."
Kyungsoo's head rested on mine. "She's gone..."
The smoke is almost clearing up and the fire from the other side of the forest was prevented from becoming a real wildfire. The battle is almost finished and by sunrise, I hope we could start another life with all the people we really care about now.
With a start, Kyungsoo opened his eyes but it was too late.
I felt someone slid under me and in an instant, I felt a blade cut through my chest. I whimpered in pain, stumbling backwards as blood seeped through the cut in great amounts. I stepped into Yifan's chest and Kyungsoo angrily sank his teeth into his body and threw him against a nearby tree. Everything happened too fast that my brain couldn't process them all.
Red spots started to blot my vision and when I felt my body shift into its human form, I pulled the knife off my chest, groaning in pain. Blood. Everything is just so bloody right now. I can't think. I can't feel anything but the pain.
The last thing I knew was Kyungsoo's arms wrapped around me, begging me to stay.
