Chapter Thirteen
To everyone who has read, voted and commented on Biba, I am so so so so sorry.

In an attempt to be rational when we come upon privy informations, we tend to be overcome by sentiments and often make the wrong decisions. This, Hajja was well aware of, as such, she did not try to over process this new found information, instead, she sat in blank silence and let everything sink in.
The vibration of her phone broke the spell. She stood up and drew the curtains allowing darkness to envelop the room once again, while her husband sleeps with the aid of diazepam.
Once outside the room, she answered the call. It is her sister Laila, calling to remind her of the days plan. It was a welcomed distraction as she made plans for the evening.

Anwar's day couldn't have been any worse. What with starting it by dropping Biba at school, and now driving her back home? He sure wasn't going to end the day with that. He couldn't even feign ignorance as to what his father's end game was, all he knew is that it is going to be a big disappointment for him in the end.
He does not in the slightest intend to become Biba's personal chauffeur. He had to do something about it, but for the moment, he shifted gears and reversed the car as soon as she alighted and drove off into the dusky evening.
Biba didn't expect a tete-a-tete on their way back, as such, she was not in the least disappointed. In fact, her mind has been burdened by a lot of things concerning school. For starters, the realisation of how limited her knowledge of things are and how far behind she was compared to her colleagues, to how she could catch up with them filled her mind.
Barring the distant chatter of the house helps from the kitchen, the house was relatively silent. Hajja was nowhere in sight nor Baba. As for Hanny, she is almost always at a function, be it a weddings, birthdays or farewell parties, even funerals seem to be in style for her these days.
It was a welcome sight to Biba, for she feared she will burst into tears if anyone makes inquiries about how school went. Upon reaching her room, she flopped on the bed and took a deep breathe.
She thought of Nini. How she used to brag about her intelligence. "My Biba is the brightest in her class." She would always say to anyone who cared to listen.
"Oh Nini, right now I need a talisman. Only the most potent in the whole world can save me." She said aloud to herself as she covered her face with both hands.
That evening, she was able to skip dinner without anyone noticing because they all came back at different hours of the night and Alhaji Bappah was no where to be seen. She was awake well into the night pacing in her room until her legs hurt. Exhausted, she slumped on the bed again. Something she had been doing a lot for the past hours. It is then she heard the honk of Anwar's car. She didn't need to check the time to know it is midnight, for he routinely comes back at zero hours or minutes before that. Its been a source of friction between him and his father but his obstinacy does not let him mend his ways, and so it became a regular pattern.
Thinking of Anwar's obstinacy, an idea occured to her and she jumped out of the bed.
Two can play this game. She thought to herself as reached for something in her bag on the floor and raced toward his room nearly bumping into him and only missing him by an inch.
"Hey crazy, watch it!" He spat, at the same time blocking the door.
"Where do you think you are going?" He asked in a levelled voice.
"We need to talk." Whispered Biba.
"Not again...I had enough of you to last me forever, get lost." He started to close the door.
She panicked and put a foot on the door sill to jam it. She winced in pain.
"Aww..." she cried.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" He balled his fist in an attempt to slow down the rage that was gradually building up inside him.
"We need to talk." She repeated.
"About what?"
She shifted a foot and looked him in the eye. He rubbed his temples to clear the fog in his head and she started in an annoyingly deliberate sweet voice.
"Well... remember when you promised to teach me this?" She waved an ultra thin laptop to his face, which up until now had been hidden behind her.
"I am taking you up for it." She smiled.
That move for some reason caused his attention to shift to her bosom. He had always appreciated God's work when it is abundance, but God help him, he was not going to get ensnared by her charms.
He cleared his throat, "I thought we went through this. I am not teaching you shit." He began to close the door again, but she didn't move her foot.
"Oh yes, you are." She replied.
He took a step further and narrowed his eyes, she looked back in defiance.
"And if I don't?"
"Let's see..." she frowned, "I could do one of two things. One, scream my lungs out and draw everyone's attention and tell them how you dragged me from my roo..."
"What the..." he grabbed her arm shooting her daggers. She winced and wriggled, forcing him to let go.
"Or two, I will tell them how you are not letting me go after I came to get my laptop from your room, or...I could come clean and tell them how you have been treating me so far. So which is it going to be?"
"That's three," he said absentmindedly.
Then he chuckled "You think those threats are going to work on me? Ha ha Nice try."
And for a split second to his horror she opened her mouth and attempted a scream.
He panicked and jumped her, clasping a hand over her mouth and they fell with a thud. She tried to move under his weight but he was too heavy for her. He was afraid the sound of them falling might attract his parents whose room was right down his own.
"Mm..mm...mm..." she protested.
"Shh... you crazy girl... Are you mad? What has gotten into you?" He whispered in a barely audible voice.
"Mm...mm...m"
Only then did he realise he was smack atop her. He grunted and rolled over.
"Wallahi I kill you for this." He swore as he walked inside leaving the door open.
She straightened her clothes and went in. She could easily count the times she had been in this room on one hand. It always has that woody and spicy scent that he carrys with him. She sits on the chair while he huffed and puffed round the room.
"You are playing with fire, you have no idea." He warned.
"I will take my chances." She said triumphantly.
"Actually you can look at it this way," she continued. "It is going to be a win win for both of us. I promise to get out of your hair as soon as I catch up and get the hang of things in school...so you see, I get what I want, so do you."
She knew how much he hates her being in his affairs and she is using it to her advantage. He gave up and took a chair facing her. He clasp his hands together and began,
"Alright, how about we go to sleep like all normal human beings are doing at this very hour and then work something out tomorrow morning?"
A smile lit up her tired face as she stood up and mumbled a thank you.
"And shut the damn door."
"With pleasure." She replied with an exaggerated bow.
