THE WRATH OF THE GODDESS - Pham Viet Long - 36
On that day, Bi Bi had a long-standing desire to listen to a story. When asked by her grandfather why, Bi Bi responded:
The other day, I was too engrossed in playing and missed the opportunity to hear stories from Mr. Than the Storyteller. He roamed around without a welcoming audience. Recognizing my mistake, I now wish to hear many stories from Mr. Than.
An agreement was made:
It's acceptable, but you must finish your studies before lying down to listen to the story.Bi Bi complied. However, as she was studying, the doorbell rang, signaling Mr. Than's arrival. Despite her urge to leave the desk, Bi Bi remembered her promise to her grandfather and stayed back to continue practicing writing.
After completing her studies, Bi Bi brushed her teeth and went to bed. Grandpa commenced the story "In the Fairy Garden" for Bi Bi. After finishing one tale, Bi Bi requested another. Following "The Flower Shaped Like a Bee," Grandpa noticed Bi Bi sobbing and inquired:
Are you crying? Why?Because, in the story, I loved the baby and used my body to protect her, getting stung to death by a bee.
After her response, Bi Bi inquired further:
Grandpa, does such a thing happen in real life?I have a real-life story for you.
While Grandpa recounted real-life stories, Storyteller Than had to sit silently and wait. However, Bi Bi was so engrossed in Grandpa's real stories that she forgot about Storyteller Than. Bi Bi persisted in asking for more stories related to "bees and cows that sting buffalo herdsmen." Grandpa, equally captivated by the real stories, forgot about the God waiting to tell today's fairy tale. Suddenly, "Thud!" Both grandchildren were startled. Before understanding what happened, Mr. Than exclaimed, "Cock... knock... knock." It turned out that he was too tired, fell asleep, collapsed to the ground, and Mrs. Than of Sleep knocked on the door. She spoke sternly to Storyteller Than:
It's my turn! Will you come out so I can lull you to sleep?
Mr. Than Told the Story crawled up from the floor and explained:
Yes, I'm leaving now! Please understand because yesterday I had to wander, and today, sitting on a warm bed with Mr. and Mrs. Bi Bi, I forgot about the time to return.
Being gods to each other, Mrs. Than Sleep immediately relented upon hearing Mr. Than Tell the story. She spoke softly:
Then you can sit a little longer.
Mr. Than, thoroughly enjoying the storytelling, added another request:
Can I finish telling Bi Bi the modern fairy tale?Okay, but don't take too long! I'll go lull another baby to sleep and come back later.
When Mrs. Sleeping Goddess left, Mr. Than Storyteller resumed telling Bi Bi the story of the Squid who went to the police and got injured. Bi Bi once again sobbed and asked him:
Sir, how can the Squid be treated?Oh, take it to the hospital. The doctor operated and removed a bullet from the Squid's chest...
And so, the tale of the brave Squid continued seemingly without end. Strangely, that same Squid later lived with Black Face and Bi Bi. Only when Mr. Than was startled by the sound of the door jamming did he exclaim:
It's too late; I have to go to another house to tell the story!
Bi Bi pleaded:
No, the Squid's story isn't over yet. Tell me if it's cured yet!
So Mr. Than continued. Just as the whole family was engrossed, the door opened. The Sleeping Goddess had run out of patience. Seeing her grandchild still absorbed, Mrs. Than was a bit upset. Mr. Than reassured:
Okay, ma'am, please understand. Today I'll make up for it, but it's a bit long, so please wait a moment!
Mrs. Than relented again and flew to another child's house. Mr. Than continued with the story of Cuc's recovery and then the tale of Black Face and Bi Bi visiting the Squid. As soon as he finished, Mr. Than suddenly exclaimed:
Okay, I must leave for another house. Otherwise, the child over there will be upset.
Bi Bi protested:
Well, sir, don't leave yet. I still want to hear what the Squid did when it got injured?Well, when the Squid was injured, the Vang rushed out and bit the villain's neck...Oh, that's great; please continue...Well, it's too late, kid! Then I'll just tell you this part...Yes, let's finish this part! At that moment, Vang rushed out and bit the drug dealer's neck, causing him to collapse. Then Vang ran over and licked and sniffed to encourage Squid. The policemen...
At this point, the door opened. The Sleeping Goddess had run out of patience and declared loudly:
Well, leave now...
A cold breeze blew through the opened door. Grandfather was hit by the wind and let out a loud scream. Then Mr. Kho... cough... cough... It turned out that it was the sleeping breeze, causing Grandpa to fall asleep and know nothing more. At this time, the Storyteller God became helpless because everything he wanted to tell Bi Bi had to go through Grandfather. Now that Grandpa was asleep, Storyteller Than could no longer speak. Bi Bi also fell asleep. Mr. Than gently flew out, and the entire house slept quietly.
Poor Mr. Than, the storyteller, faced challenges because every time he visited a house, the closed doors prevented him from entering and sharing his stories. It turns out that every time it's bedtime, houses close their doors, no longer staying up to listen to stories. Returning home, Mr. Than, the storyteller, couldn't enter due to the closed door. He sat down and dozed off on the porch.
Thanks to the magic of the God of Sleep, both Bi Bi and Mr. Than slept without boredom that day. It was already early morning, but the two of them continued to wheeze... wheeze... The Sleep God wanted to punish Bi Bi for staying up late, so she blew a long sleep wind, making Bi Bi fall asleep even before waking up for school.
Grandmother returned from the market and saw the two grandchildren still sleeping. She called out:
It's too late, Bi Bi, wake up and go to school quickly!
Grandma had to shake Bi Bi, who was still wheezing... wheezing. She took a strand of hair, blew it into Bi Bi's nose, and Bi Bi sneezed, waking up but still in a dream:
Is that a mouse picking my nose? Where is Mi Mi! The mouse is picking my nose! She laughed:Where's the mouse? There you are. Wake up quickly or you'll be late for school!
Then she called him:
Grandpa, you have a meeting today! He jumped up in panic:I'm dead, I'm late for the meeting...
Saying that, he closed his eyes and wheezed... continued. Grandmother looked up at the corner of the house, startled, and said:
Oh, look, the Sleep Lady is still up there, hiding in the exhaust fan!
The Sleeping Lady heard this and immediately spoke:
Today, I stayed to punish Bi Bi for staying up too late. Now Bi Bi and Grandpa have to make up for their sleep!
Just then, the Storyteller God flew in. Mrs. Than asked:
Hey, why did you come back here?Because I got home late, I couldn't come in. I had to stay out in the cold all night. Now I'm back here to ask for some warmth. I'm so sleepy; I'll go sleep under the exhaust fan for a bit.
Grandmother apologized on behalf of Grandfather:
I'm sorry, Mrs. Than, please don't punish us anymore. From now on, we will sleep on time. Don't blame Mr. Storyteller; it's just because he loves Bi Bi, he tells too many stories, making it late.
The Sleeping God calmed down, made way for the Storytelling God, and flew away. At that moment, the two of them fully woke up.
Frantically, they cleaned up and had breakfast. With no time for coffee, Grandpa quickly took the car and drove away.
As for Bi Bi, being new to Dolphin class, she might be late, so she had breakfast before going to school.
