Diapers

In the past, children didn't have diapers like they do now. That's why, in the old days, when going to sleep, some people didn't wet the bed, but others did, and it was tough. Wet pants, wet sheets and blankets, and a sour smell.

In a neighboring house, there was a little girl with only her mother left; her father had passed away. One night, she was fast asleep, so deeply asleep that she thought she was sitting on the toilet. So she peed, and when she woke up with a start, she realized that she had wet the bed. She had peed in her sleep. Oh, it was unbearable. The little girl cried loudly, and her mother, half-asleep, woke up and changed her pants. Unfortunately, they were so poor that they didn't have any spare pants. In desperation, the mother had to wrap the child in one of her own shirts.

Then, the mother and child went back to sleep, but the smell of urine still lingered. The mother fell into a dream. A dream... a dream... a dream. Oh, it was delightful. She found herself in a modern city filled with big houses and elegant shops. But what caught her attention was a store that sold children's clothing. What struck her as strange was a baby product called a diaper. The shopkeeper explained, "In this civilized place, no one uses cloth diapers anymore. This diaper can absorb urine and keep the baby dry and odor-free." The mother loved it but didn't have the money to buy it. The shopkeeper said, "You have beautiful long hair. In this modern place, all women have short hair. How about trading your hair for a diaper?" Without hesitation, the mother agreed. The shopkeeper grabbed her hair, and her entire head was shaved. She screamed and woke up. She touched her head, and to her relief, her hair was still there, just shorter. What was even stranger was that she was holding in her hand something like underwear but with four wings on the sides that would stick together when worn, forming a snug fit. The mother was still in disbelief, not sure if it was a dream or reality. The shopkeeper's voice still echoed in her ears: "Take this sample with you. In my world, I grant you ownership of this invention. You won't have to worry about anyone suing you!"

By noon, the mother went to talk to a neighboring tailor. He said, "Whether it's a dream or reality doesn't matter. Now you have the sample, leave it with me, and I'll investigate and see how we can make these in bulk!" When he found the piece of paper inside the bag that contained the diaper, the tailor saw some foreign words. Fortunately, the tailor was skilled in French because he had lived in the French-occupied resistance zone, so he could read that it was a permit to use the diaper design for mass production, with instructions on how to manufacture it.

As a result, the diaper became a common item for children (and even the elderly and the disabled) in Bi Bi's land. Bi Bi also used the diaper thanks to the dream of that poor mother. It turned out that the mother was the grandmother of Bi Bi's friend Chip, a neighbor whom Bi Bi greatly admired. Chip's family is not poor now because, back in the day, when the tailor produced diapers in bulk and sold a lot, he also shared some with that poor mother. Now, children no longer had to worry about wetting the bed!
