5. A Gift

Nandan knocked on Devi's door; it was slightly opened. He did not find her in the room. He walked back and was passing through the corridors when he found her sitting on the porch. A smile hung on his face as he sat beside her. He observed her to be writing something.

Devi put the paper aside after being satisfied with her writing.

"Are you happy?" Asked Devi as she saw Nandan sitting beside her from the corner of her eyes.

"Very much! What about you?" He asked her back.

"Well, I found new freedom but still have to learn how to fly."

The words not only meant the world to Devi but also to Nandan, as they made him feel free, free from the boulder in his heart that was pulling him down.

"Don't worry, time will teach you." He replied.

She smiled and stood up, giving a hand to Nandan and urging him to get up.

"What's it?" He asked with curious eyes and concern in his voice.

"My grandmother used to always say to not be in debt of any help," stated Devi.

"She's a wise woman, Rani, and I guess you take after her," commented Nandan.

"And that's why I am gifting you this," she replied as she held a beautifully painted mud pot of tiny birds in a colourful palette with a butterfly pea flower plant planted in it.

"Did you paint it?" He asked, appreciating her art.

"Yes, do you like it?"

"Of course! Rani, if you don't mind sharing, what were you writing before?" Asked Nandan, glancing at the fluttering paper behind her.

"I was writing a letter to Ms. Lekha, thanking her. She's the one who made this happen. She gave wings to many girls yesterday and made them free from the grips of cruelty. A pen is a most treasured valuable of mine because it showed me the power of writing, the power of a signature. And letters are my way of affection," she replied, staring at the pen and paper that fluttered, trying to free itself from the weight of the stone.

Nandan's eyes reflected the emotions he was going through-pure admiration for the kind heart.

Thanks to her, he was able to find the path leading his destiny.

"I'm always thankful to you, Devi. You are my Devi, an answer to my prayers," he expressed his gratitude.

"What's the matter? You're elevating me up to the clouds," remarked Devi.

Nandan chuckled at her as he placed the pot down.

"Oh, I almost forgot!" Exclaimed Devi as she handed him a crumpled note.

Astonished as he read the contents of the crumpled note, he looked up at Devi for answers. Soon his lips turned into a curve as he saw her teasing smile.

"Don't you dare think of troubling her," she warned him.

"Not even subconsciously," he replied, sincerely nodding his head.

"So what is her name? You've never revealed it," stated Devi.

His face beamed as he replied,

"BHAGYA"
