19. First Therapy
Fatima adjusts her maxi dress and takes a deep breath, she remembers all the scoldings she got from Sheikh Akhmad yesterday. Apparently, Aqsam is a snitch and he snitched on her to Sheikh Akhmad.
Fatima puts on a straight face and says a Salam, no answer comes so she just opens the door. The sight before her leaves her gaping, Aqsam is exercising. The sweat on his back and chest make him look hot and men, are her feet turning to jelly.
The guys sure is drool worthy. But just as she remembers the kind of snitch he is, she frowns and tries to look at him without looking at his face.
Nop, impossible. The face just has to be there. She rolls her eyes.
Coughing, Fatima gains Aqsam's attention who picks a towel and walks past her out of the office. The audacity! How dare he?! First he complains about her dressing, then he reports her to Shiekh Akhmad, and now, he just walks past her like she's some useless statue which is just matter, just having weight and occupying space.
"Hey, who do you think you are?" Fatima asks clearly irritated.
"Can't you see that I'm talking to you?" Fatima follows him. She over takes him and blocks his path.
"You excuse of man! I'm talking to you and you think you can just walk away? Who do you think you are?" Fatima asks nose flaring and arms flying every-witch-way.
"The owner of this establishment. And in case you're not aware, your therapy has been moved to four in the evening." Aqsam says in a bored tone and side steps her before walking into his room.
His audacity! The temerity! She's Fatima Abba Sulayman and she'll show him who she is. He just messed with the wrong Abba Sulayman. Muhammad Aqsam, you just dug your own grave.
Innayo walks with the support of her husband and her friend, Hajjo - Halima's mother. Hajjo came in the morning immediately she landed in Abuja. She was out of the country for a week and had no idea of the happenings.
"I can walk, there's no need for all this." Innayo tries to reason with her husband who isn't having any of it. The last two days have been hell for him. And the news he just received today, that just makes everything worse. The doctor told him earlier today that any more stress on Innayo's path and a heart attack is what's coming next. Due to the heredity of blood pressure in their family, Innayo has it. Her mother and father both have it. That was what killed her father but her mother is still alive.
The blood pressure has affected her heart, making it swell. Any shock, surprises, stress or anything related and a heart attack would come knocking on her door. She has weak immune system so the heart attack would easily send her to a land of no return.
Abba sniffs back his tears silently as he places Innayo in the back seat, Hajjo joining her at the back. Afnan sits at the front and Abba drives out of Fereprod. Trying to clear his thoughts, Abba remembers his promise to call Fatima when Innayo gets discharged. He makes a mental note to call her.
Suddenly, Innayo remembers that she hasn't seen Sa'eed nor Halima since the day he collapsed.
"I haven't seen Halima or Sa'eed since, have they gone on another honeymoon?" Innayo asks no one in particular.
"I'm not sure. Let me call one of them." Afnan says bringing out her infinix hot 5. She dials Halima's number, it rings countless times but she doesn't pick. She then calls Sa'eed, his also rings but he doesn't pick.
"Ammi they're both not picking the calls." Amal says.
"Okay." Innayo says. Maybe they're busy. They're newly weds after all.
"Rabani I'm held in a tight spot, in between the rock and a hard place, in between the devil and the deep blue sea. What do I do? Aza... Muhammad isn't willing to marry you. He loves that Fatima girl. I don't know what to do." Maa utters absentmindedly. What to do, she doesn't know.
Rabani is like her daughter but she can't sacrifice her son and his happiness for a neighbor. That's not done. Her thoughts are cut off by an annoyingly high pitched voice which obviously belongs to a female.
"Rabani, I'm turning old and you left me with arranging the store to come to this woman." Anwe, Rabani's mother says walking ever so gracefully to the living room.
"Aya, Anwe welcome. " Maa says in Koro.
"I didn't come here to be welcomed. I came here to get my daughter. Eeh." Anwe replies in Koro twisting her mouth in a funny way.
"I've been meaning to come to your tree. I need your advice." Maa deadpans.
"I'm all ears."
"My son doesn't want to get married to Raban..." Anwe cut her off.
"Eehhhh impossible. Have you ever heard of a betrothal at birth getting dissolved around here? Turr twa." Anwe exclaimed, spitting on the beautiful rug.
"I have accepted his decision though. It's left for you to find a befitting suitor for your daughter." Maa says smiling apologetically at Rabani before disappearing into the tree bark. She needs to clear her head.
"Maa." Rabani feigns tears making her mother's face soften. No matter how annoying Anwe is, she still loves her daughter unconditionally.
"How can he say he doesn't love me? Why won't he marry me? What does that Muslim human have that I don't?" Rabani says making Anwe's brows shoot up in confusion.
"Did you just say Muslim human?"
"Yes, he loves on Fatima." Rabani blows her nose.
"I know what to do okay? Stop crying." Anwe rubs Rabani's back soothingly. Someone just messed with the wrong mother! Fatima Abba Sulayman, you're officially dead meat.
"What's your name?" Aqsam asks, in a professional manner as he goes through a file.
"Fatima Abba Sulayman." Fatima replies in the same tone.
"How old are you?"
"Twenty four."
"How old where you when you had your first attack." Fatima takes a sharp intake of breath, she doesn't want to be reminded of that day but as Allah would have it, it has to be part of the therapy.
"Fourteen." She answers in a low voice.
"Can you narrate how the attack came?" Aqsam looks up at her, noticing her discomfort.
"I can only remember blurs."
"Okay. What can you remember?
"It was my older brother's graduation prom. I had a prom date. He gave me a particular cloth to wear, it was revealing but I wore it anyways." Aqsam cut her off.
"Why did you wear it if you knew it was revealing?" Aqsam scoots closer on his chair.
"Because... Because... I loved the person that gave me the cloth and I wanted to please him." Fatima says lowly, making sure to let Aqsam know she loved and wanted to please the person, which was in the past, but not anymore. She has learnt her lesson.
"Okay, continue."
"So when I reached the passage leading to the main hall, I felt a wave of breeze there. Suddenly I was dizzy and everything went blank. I opened my eyes to see myself in my room back at home."
"No one told you about what happened?"
"My mum refused to allow anyone tell me anything. She said it's in the past and it has been buried. To even stop anyone from telling me anything, she sent me here and I've been here since then, till last month when I went back there." Fatima concludes.
"Okay, have any weird things happened?"
"On the day of the wedding of my best friend to my brother, I felt dizzy after all the events and I can't remember what happened after then, I can only remember being in a beautiful room then being at home.
"Then on another day, I was about going out of my room when a wave of wind from nowhere came, someone strangled me and told me to stay away from her husband. I guess that's all."
"Okay, do you know the gender of the Jinn that's been attacking you?"
"No. I think only the malam that recited Ruqiya and Sheikh Akhmad know the answer to that."
"Okay. Our next therapy is tomorrow, same time, same place." Aqsam says closing the file and leaning back on his chair.
"Okay." Fatima stands up and leaves.
