Rin sat up in the silk white sheets of the borrowed bed in the room with carvings etched into the dark walls. The same scenery as before, but her head was pounding. Had she fallen asleep since the last time she had woken up? Where was the girl from before? Rin could barely remember the details of the person she saw just outside.
Rin moved her head, it wasn't as painful as before, she even found a small tray with a note and a bowl full of freshly picked strawberries. Rin paused, strawberries were her favorite food, how did she know. All the corrupted thoughts constantly bombarded her mind, were they stalking her? Did they kidnap her? Is Kakashi dead? Did she kill Kakashi? What about Konoha?
Rin gulped but moved her arm to pick up the note. It was a folded piece of old paper, as if it had been from thousands of years ago. Rin slowly opened the note, looking at the katakana written. Rin paused, it wasn't even in kanji, was this not her first language. Regardless it took Rin a while to completely understand what was written on it.
Dearest Rin,
I am aware of your awakenment, I have left some strawberry's for you. Please rest well.
-Thana'.
The note was short, but the grammar in it almost hurt Rin. Incorrect spelling aside, what did awakenment even mean. Saying Rin was freaked out would be the understatement of the century. There was no need for this note at all if this 'Thana' would just come into the room and talk to her like most people. Rin was sure she never even met a Thana in her life until now.
The room was a frigid temperature with solid concrete floors, however the handcrafted black sweater that somehow had gotten onto Rin's body was warm and comforting. Finding nothing else to do, Rin reached for one of the strawberries. Rin examined the strawberry thoroughly to make sure there were no entrances for possible poison. Taking another glance around the room, it was less blurry. Near the door was a small mirror Rin could barely see herself in. Next to it was a chalkboard with hard to see doodles. Adjacent to the bed Rin was set up in, was a small chair, next to it a dark purple, almost black rug.
Rin's assumptions of the barren room were incorrect. It had quite a bit of character, showing that the person didn't come here much, but recently spent some time here. Possibly watching Rin, making sure her vitals were in a safe area. Once Rin confirmed the strawberries were safe she took a small bite of one of them. The sweet fruit was perfect and refreshing. Rin found herself finishing the strawberries quicker than she would have liked.
After all of this, Rin only found one thing to do to help her body, fall back asleep. Rin needed to put all of her faith into the 'Thana' who was taking care of her. Unlike the cliche of the other person walking in just as they get settled, Rin safely fell asleep and dreamed of her old life in Konoha. She dreamed of Minato, Kakashi, and if Obito was alive. Them going out for lunch, training, congratulating Kakashi, healing Obito, chatting with Minato, getting her cheeks pulled by Kushina. Those were only some of the many thoughts that rushed into her mind as she was on sleeps edge, then it all fell silent.
--
Rin slowly blinked after what seemed like hours of dreaming, she felt she should be at home, next to Kakashi and Minato, she wished Obito to not be dead. But she found herself in the same boring room as before, the knife-designs in the walls, the same dark carpet, the white sheets. But in the small chair adjacent to her was a womans form. She wore a black hoodie and long dark grey pants. The skin Rin could see from the exposed hands of the woman was pale, not a cute pale, a sickly pale, unhealthy. Rin frowned from this, was she worrying more about herself rather than her own health.
"You're awake." The phrase echoed through the room as Rin blinked, the woman, assumed to be Thana, clapped her book shut and swung her legs over the side. The hoodie was down showing her bob cut black hair with bangs just above her eyes. However something was different about these eyes, they weren't overzealously any color in particular. These weren't a Kekkei Genkai she had ever heard about. Thana's eyes were bright neon purple. When Rin saw the neon, it was more than some kinda dollar store cheap neon tape. It was a bright amethyst that stood out against her pale skin, but most importantly, her sclera. What were supposed to be the whites of her eyes were completely black.
"Are you..." Rin found herself at a loss for words from the luminescent amethyst orbs only a few feet away from her. "Thana?" Amethyst-eyes blinked before the pale skin around her lips seperated into a small smile, showing off some jagged canines. "Correct." Thana spoke, her voice would the the antonym of nails on a chalkboard, music to Rin's ears perhaps. Her smoky modulated tone was smooth like butter, and something Rin could listen to all day. Rin gulped, asking the question that she didn't really want to know the answer to. "What happened to Kakashi...?" The chocolatey eyes that Rin bore moved from side to side in a nervous pattern. Just before she 'died', she saw Kakashi fall, then someone rushing toward them. Someone with a white mask, everything else was too blurry, it hurt her head.
Thana grew a grim frown when she saw the slight change in Rin's posture. The taller female didn't know what to say, should she lie? Does she tell her everything is alright? Does she tell her who saved them? Why Kakashi's not here? Why she's here? Who she is? "Who's Kakashi..." Thana spoke, trying desperately for her voice not to crack up because of the obvious lie. Because the truth is, Thana knew who Kakashi was, Thana knows what's happening.
"Ahh... nevermind, it must have been... a... a fever dream or... something..." Rin immediately denied her previous wordings. Thana bit her lip, "look I'm sure this Kakashi character is safe, there's no way h-they'd go dying on you if they were important to you." Thana spoke quickly, stumbling over the word he or they. She tried to prove the point that she didn't know Kakashi. This was one of Thana's luckiest moments, because Rin was buying whatever she was selling. Thana almost let out a loud sigh of relief when Rin gave her a slight nod, however Thana decided to hold in the breath at the last second. To give a sigh at this moment would be suspicious, very suspicious.
"So how did you get me here. This land is like nothing I've ever seen before." Rin spoke, staring out of the window, eying the old dusty terrain. Thana froze at this, playing by hand again, she was always amazing at gambling. "I found you lying in the middle of a small plain, alone. You had a large wound, so I decided to take you back to my house before patching you up." This lie came out of her mouth about as a rock. Even though there was no uncertainty, Rin questioned it. "But where is your house." Thana gulped, this is where she needed to step up her manipulative game. "It's known as Arid Mountain." Thana spoke, the truth came out easier than the lies, especially to someone like Rin.
Rin stopped for a moment. "THIS IS THAT MOUNTAIN?" She raised her voice, her shocked chocolatey orbs brighter than before. Arid Mountain had been unable to be scaled by ninja's alike for as long as chakra existed. The whole mountain was like a anti-chakra area. "How long was I out?" It should be long, because if it isn't that meant that someone here used chakra. "Seventeen days."
A larger number than what Rin expected. She still could barely move, "what about the strawberries..." Thana blinked before continuing, "a friend grew them for me. I've never been good at sustaining life forms for very long." Everything added up, the sterile grounds around this mountain, tied with the little life blooming and oxygen, no chakra. This place was completely closed off from the world, and that was the reason Thana loved it.
