~Chapter Two: Trouble~
Night came as quick as the three expected. Wilbur slept the day away while Tommy, and eventually Techno, were outside practicing their sword fighting skills. As the sun was setting over the trees Phil woke Wilbur and called the two inside so they could eat. They walked into the living room where there was food waiting for them on the coffee table. "You three eat. I have some things I have to work on. I'll be in my room if you need me." Phil told them. Techno nodded while the other two gave him a thumbs up. They waited until they heard the lock to Phil's door click.
Then they started talking. "So how are we going to sneak out? Dad always makes sure were in bed by the time it's dark outside." Wilbur said taking a bite of a porkchop. "Are you stupid Wil? We just wait until he goes to sleep!" Tommy shouted. "Tommy be quiet! We don't want dad to know!" Wilbur whispered holding a finger in front of his mouth. "He's got a point." Techno said sitting down on the couch, a plate laying in his lap. "Whatever. I'm just saying it's not gonna be that hard." Tommy huffed. He looked down at his plate and picked up some bread.
He took a bite and looked at the other two, waiting for them to say something. "If we want to get out we have to make sure we try to be as quiet as possible. Meaning we have to watch our step on the way out." Techno said. The wooden floor in their house was as loud as a dog who's tail had been stepped on. Almost each and every plank of wood creaked when stepped on. Especially the ones making up the stairs. "How are we gonna get down stairs? The stairs are loud as fuck! There's no way we could just walk down." Wilbur said. "We could go out a window from upstairs?" Tommy suggested in a questioning voice.
"That's not a bad idea, but the second floor is two high up. We would probably break something if we tried that. whether it be an object or a bone." Techno said. Wilbur snickered at the monotone sound in his voice as he said that. Techno had a monotone voice already, but when he was thinking somehow it would get even more laid back and boring. At least that's how Tommy described it. "Isn't there a ladder in the hall closet?" Tommy asked. "Well yeah, but how do we know that thing's stable. We haven't needed to use it in ages." Wilbur said. "Exactly, that's what's gonna make it fun." Tommy said with a smirk.
"Well, that's the only choice we have that might not get use caught so let's just go with it." Techno sighed. "Might?" Wilbur questioned. "I'm not guaranteeing anything." Techno replied. "That's fair I suppose." Wilbur muttered. "Right! It's settled then." "Not quite." Tommy swung his head around and looked at Techno. He raised an eyebrow, "What?" Tommy questioned. "We have to figure out what time we're going to leave." Techno said.
"I already said we should leave when dad's asleep!" Tommy shouted. "That's not specific enough Tommy." Wilbur sighed. "Fine!" Tommy groaned. "How about around midnight to one?" He asked. Tommy looked to Techno and he just shrugged his shoulders. He then looked to Wilbur for approval on the time he had suggested and he nodded. "Is it settled now?" Tommy asked in an annoyed tone.
"There are more things that we should think about but I'll just say yes so you stop whining." Techno said as he stood. Tommy huffed as he walked away, he assumed to the kitchen to put his plate away. He got up and crossed his arms, walking upstairs. Wilbur sighed and grabbed Tommy's plate as well as his own. "Kid never puts his own damn plate away." He complained walking past Techno, who has chuckled quietly at the comment. Wilbur washed the plates and set them beside the sink to dry. He walked up the stairs to his and Techno's room to get some shut eye since Tommy or Techno were gonna wake him up in the middle of the night.
Walking into his room he closed the door behind him before laying down on his bed. He looked over to Techno, who had picked up the book he was reading earlier and was currently flipping through the pages. He saw Wilbur staring out of the corner of his eye and turned his head. "What?" Techno asked. "I, nothing." Wilbur turned to the wall, though he could still feel Techno's gaze on him. "You should sleep Techno, Tommy's gonna come in here screaming later." Wilbur told him. "I'd rather read and wait for him. Stop him from waking up Phil when he comes in here." Techno said flipping another page.
"Alright then. Just make sure you wake me up. I don't want to wake up to Tommy's screams." Wilbur laughed. "Will do." Techno replied. He put his book down for a second, keeping a finger in between the pages, and turned off the lamp on his bedside table. That being the only light on in the room in the moment. after he turned of the lamp he opened the drawer in the table and pulled out a small flash light so he could still read. Wilbur was facing the other way and had already closed his eyes, so he didn't notice the light radiating a portion of the room. He was hoping to get as much sleep as he could, because he knew he was going to need it if they got caught.
"Night Techno." Wilbur said as he snuggled into one of his pillows. "Night." Techno responded. With that Wilbur drifted off to sleep. Not for very long, but a decent amount of time for what he would be able to get. He had fallen asleep at around ten-thirty, had Tommy had planned to wake them up from midnight to one. So depending on when he decided to come in Wilbur would get from one and a half to two and a half hours of sleep. Not enough for a good nights sleep, but just around enough for him to function for a little bit.
That time went by faster than Wilbur hoped it would. Soon enough Techno was sitting on the side of his bed shaking his shoulder. "Wilbur," he whispered. "What. . ." Wilbur whined pulling his covers further up. "Get up it's time." he turned around and looked at Techno confused. "Time for what? It's like twelve-thirty." Wilbur groaned. "Are you that stupid? Did you really forget!?" Tommy yelled from behind Techno.
"Tommy, shut up." Techno commented before turning his attention to Wilbur once more. Tommy huffed and sat down on the edge of the bed. "Wil were going out tonight, to the tree line?" Techno told him, trying to spark something in his brain. "Oh!" Wilbur gasped remembering what they had planned. "Right, sorry." he said sitting up. He yawned and rubbed his eyes trying to wake himself. "Wil come on! I already set up the ladder outside the window! Stop being so slow!" Tommy shouted as quiet as possible.
Wilbur groaned getting up from his bed. He grabbed his coat, which was laying on the side of his bed, almost falling off. He lazily put it on, only hanging off his shoulders, and headed towards the window where Tommy had already climbed down. He sat on the window ledge and laid down a foot on the ladder, then his other, and slowly went down as well. As he reached the ground Techno started to climb out the window. When they were all down on the ground the three started walking out into the yard. The closer they got to the fence, as well as the tree line, Wilbur grew nervous.
Starting to think once again that going against their father's rule was to far. The thought of getting caught scared him, but it was obviously to late now. 'Come on Wilbur suck it up!' He thought to himself. He shook the feeling off and continued to walk. Soon they reached the fence and looked out into the forest. It was dark and grim, none of them could see anything more than a few feet ahead of them. "Man, that's dark." Tommy said squinting, trying to get a better view.
"Yeah." Techno simply replied. "Well, come on then." Tommy said. The other two were confused until Tommy started to climb the fence. "Woah Tommy what are you doing!?" Wilbur shouted. "What?" Tommy questioned. He sat down on the fence and looked back at the too. "You never said anything about going into the forest!" Wilbur yelled.
"What harm could it do taking just a little peak? It can be that bad!" Tommy said waving a hand at Wilbur and Techno. "Well it could get bad if Dad," "If I what?" Wilbur say Tommy stiffen up, as did he. Techno and himself turned around to see Phil standing behind them, arms crossed, with a disappointed and angry expression on his face. "U-uh, hey Dad." Tommy stuttered awkwardly. Phil shock his head and sighed. "Inside. Now."
