Chapter five

(I forgot the word in the last chapter im sorry I love you)
Decor: n. The style and layout of interior furnishings

I turn to Alfie in the dim lighting of an afternoon of memories with him.

"Thank you for helping me tonight"

He smiles a real smile, "Anytime!"

"I better head back home, though." he says, cutting through the silence.

"Yeah" I sigh.

He awkwardly shuffles towards the doorway, reluctant to leave.

"Hey Alfie?"

"Yeah" he turns around.

"You're my infinity, too."

He smiles and laughs a bit before walking out.

I really did make him happy.

The next day, after work, I sit alone in my newly decorated apartment, admiring the fairy lights. I can feel it in the air- the memories I have with him and the ones I've yet to make. I shouldn't get my hopes up, though.

I have much more to do with my apartment. I move the furniture hugging the wall that my couch was against. The wall, along with the rest of them in the living room/kitchen is white but not for long. I drive to Ace Hardware and look at paint colors. I eventually go with an aqua blue. Arriving home, I change into some old shorts and a tee shirt, throwing my midlength hair up into a messy ponytail.

I give the wall (its now a feature wall) one coat of paint and let it dry before grabbing a few of my old magazines. I sit on the living room floor, cutting out ads to beauty products and fashion ads and pretty photography. I tape them onto the wall in my kitchen that leads you to the bathroom, hoping to make it feel less bare. After an hour of doing that, I finally finish. I love the way it turned out, and I feel kind of productive today.

The next morning I put another coat of paint on the wall and another coat later on. I don't hear from Alfie other than a text before he had to send in another job application which happened at 11 am. I turn on my phone to check the time: 7:45 pm. I want to know he's okay. I call him. It rings once, twice, thre-

"Hello, Zoe."

"Hi how are you?"

"Look Zoe can I come over?"

My heart races a bit, "uh sure"

"Okay" he hangs up. He didn't sound necessarily sad but he just seemed like he needed to say something.. I think. God I hope he's not sad, especially not after he makes me so happy.

He doesn't knock, instead he walks in. I can hear him smile as he undoubtedly was reminded of last night by the infinity artwork.

He approaches me on the couch and his eyes seem to reflect the color of blue just inches behind me, the paint almost dry.

"That's gorgeous, Zoe!"

"Aw thank you! There's more." I hope off the couch and grab his wrist, sending sparks everywhere inside me. I lead him to my new picture wall.

"That's so cool." he says, tracing a picture with his fingertips.

"So why did you want to come over?"

"Zoe, I can't find a job. I know I need to give it time but I'm getting kind of nervous about it."

"Do you want some money? It really isn't a problem, Alfie." I grab my purse but I had just begun to unzip it when Alfie's fingers gently touched my wrist, and our eyes met. I shouldn't feel butterflies but I do.

"Zoe.." he speaks in a softer tone, "It's fine, really."

"Okay" I respond in a bit of a whisper as I set my purse back on the coffee table.

"I just wanted to come here to take my mind off of everything."

" understand, Alfie."

"You're the only one who does." his eyes stare out my window at the sky, painted a million different colors by the setting sun.

"This is probably dry." I refer to the wall behind us, "Want to help me move the stuff back?"

"Sure" he says. I move the couch back and we move a small, wooden, whreled cart over next to it and Alfie waters the flowers in the vase setting on top of it.

"I'm going to play some music, do you have a problem with Oh Wonder, Fall Out Boy, and One Direction?" I ask, knowing that the majority of my playlist consists of those three groups.

"Not at all. They're all really good"

Midnight Moon by Oh Wonder comes on first. I dance back to my seat like an idiot, earning a laugh from Alfie. I slap him gently on the cheek.
I plug in the fairy lights. I make my way to the kitchen and grab some chips and soda. Setting them on the counter, I ask Alfie if he wants food. I already knew his answer as he approaches the kitchen.

We eat chips for a bit. After Midnight Memories by 1D ends, I hear the track; Favorite Record by Fall Out Boy. I smile and jump up and down like a kid on Christmas. I run to turn it up. Alfie gives me an amused smile.

"This is my favorite song ever!!" I say.

"Mine too."

Can he even be more perfect?!

Alfie grabs my wrist and leads me somewhere open. He spins me right on the perfect lyric ('I'll spin for you like you're favorite records used to') and dances with me like he knows how to dance.

Yes. He can, in fact, be more perfect in a minute.

He dances him and I over to the entryway. His hands in mine, he backs me up against the side of the open doorway, the fairy lights falling onto my shoulder, my head dizzy from spinning and my heart beating faster than the beat of the music. My hair falls into my eyes but he pushes it aside. He glances down to my lips before his eyes come back to meet mine again. His eyes ask the question, and mine give him the answer. He leans in a bit closer and tilts his head before our lips collide. I add more passion to the kiss and he follows suit. I know our first kiss should be short and sweet but his lips are a drug I need so bad, like a habit I don't want to break. And I only hoped that kissing him will be much better than just a habit.

He pulls away from me, and smiles, "I love you, Zoe."

Just when I thought that my knees were already too weak.

"I love you, too."
