h o s e o k | SUMMER OR SOME MORE?
SUMMER OR SOME MORE?
"hopes! rooftop today?" namjoon who was standing next to taehyung directed the question to him. taehyung on the other hand, made their signature handshake towards each other ended with fist bump.
"of course! wouldn't want to miss it. who's the prey?"
"some kid, who owed me an assignment due this morning, but didn't make it." namjoon shrugged nonchalantly. "time?" taehyung asked while kicking the small pebbles at the side walk.
"the usual, 2 sharp! bring along jeon!" hoseok answered while picking up his bag before making a dental click, signalling goodbye to both of them. "gotta go! maths soon!"
hoseok can't help himself from noticing the stares from the other students while he was strolling along the hallway to class. of course, feeling extremely proud, he did winked to a group of girls at the corner of the hall, who was obviously eyeing him from top to bottom. shifting his gaze to the other corner, he noticed a familiar girl, who is also his classmate talking to her friend, smiling and laughing. as soon as she noticed hoseok looking at her, a distaste look was evident on her face.
involuntarily, he let out a huff, before taking a turn to his class. not before mumbling "she's not that pretty anyway, nerd!"
fooling himself, hoseok knew, he felt a different vibe embracing him, after he saw the girl outside of the class. dismissing his thought, he walked to the end of the class, securing his usual seat-- far away from the teacher.
as soon as the class start, instead of focusing his mind was wandering around, particularly, to the girl sitting centre front of the class. he felt a nudge by the boy who sat next to him, also his best friend, yoongi. "where are you, now?" yoongi questioned. hoseok let out a disapproving look towards him, while hissing "what?!".
seokjin shrugged, while pointed towards the teacher in front, clearly lasering her eyes straight to him. hoseok gulped in nervousness, while giving the teacher a slight nod. "sorry."
"do you even listened to what i am saying?" the teacher asked, placing her hands on her hips. "uh- uh" hoseok stuttered.
"your maths exams are getting worse. you should learn like serim here. the good student, the best in maths!" hoseok scoffed while hearing the name. the exact girl who didn't give a slightest glance towards him this morning.
"okay." he replied.
"okay? do you think okay would save your maths pointer?" the teacher asked sternly. hoseok fell silent. "as the matter of fact, i have a solution. you and serim will team up." turning to the girl seated in front of her, she said, "serim, your tasked is to help hoseok to raise his bar up! i'm going to check on your performance next month's test, hoseok. take note!" turning back her on her heels, she continued on leading the class with her lectures for a few minutes before dismissing the class.
hoseok groaned in disapproval while yoongi was giggling. yoongi pulled the book from hoseok's table to his. "woah! really hoseok?"
"what now?" hoseok dropped his head on his folded arms, which were placed on the table. "kim serim. you have hots for her, didn't you?" yoongi said in a whisper manner. "delusional!" hoseok retorted.
"care to explain?" yoongi said, pointed to the opened page of the book. "you drew her." he simply said. "who says it's her. it doesn't looked like her!" yoongi nodded playfully. "yeah, yeah. clearly her name was scribbled right below." hoseok widened his eyes, while pulling the book from yoongi. "never mention this to anyone. and no, i don't even like her. she's a nerd!"
seconds later, serim herself stopped by their desks. upon hearing her footsteps, hoseok scurriedly closed the book and shoved it in his bag. "what do you want?" he said flatly. "library today, at 2, no excuse." she ordered before leaving the two, speechless.
"wow, fiesty little nerd!" yoongi commented. "with that, i believe, i'll be the pigeon to tell both joon and tae, that you aren't coming today." hoseok punched yoongi on his shoulder. yoongi winced, but the pain was bearable, as they called it, "just a brotherly punch".
"see you tomorrow, hoseok!" yoongi yelled before running away from him.
*******
hoseok sat on a bench fiddling his phone knowing that he was supposed to meet serim at two. it's 2:14pm and he was definitely unenthusiastic to meet her at the library. popping a lollipop into his mouth, he lay down on the bench, a book open, and placed it against his face, not forgetting to plug in earphone in his ear.
serim on the other hand, was furious. waiting for another is not her cup of tea. she hates waiting. collecting all the books on the table, she shoved them in her bag, harshly. searching around the school compound, she spotted the familiar figure lying down on the bench. stomping on the ground, she strode towards him, before pulling the book on his face, and pull out his earphone.
"oh you're late, serim." hoseok said playfully making her anger rose.
anger was bubbling inside her, that she resorted to pull his ear, and pinched it. hoseok winced due to the pain. serim smirked at him who was wincing.
"you felt the pain, huh?" she hissed still pinching his ear.
"okay okay, stop."
"think about those people you've bullied or picked on! now you are giving me more problems. i could be studying and tutoring you a total pain in my ass!"
"let me, take a look at your ass!" serim reached her fingers out and pull his ear earning a high pitch scream from him.
"get your books now, i have no time to spare for you! get up and let's go to the cafe. you wasted fifteen minutes of my time, and i want my americano, and of course you are paying!" serim ordered while pulling hoseok's sleeve, dragging him to the cafe.
*******
a week passed and the two hour tutorials had been a plain, non exciting for hoseok, as serim treated him like a robot she is. lengthy explanation only from a single question. hoseok did tried out his charms on her, trying to loosen up to work load of having to do more questioned, but to his avail, it does not work on serim. he brought coffee to her, sometimes food, finished all his work on time, does not escape his class. as hoseok was getting bored from the same routine everyday, he slammed the calculator on the table making serim glance at him.
"what now?" serim questioned.
"why is it that you are always studying? don't you have something to do to loosen up?"
"simple. it's for the future. how can we survive in this world once we are out from school?" hoseok shook his head, giving out a disapproving look.
"why aren't you falling for me?" hoseok gulped at his on straight-forward question, but his poker face remained.
"trust me, you don't want to know. we will be graduating from high school in less than two months, and you have to much to catch up on. now continue!"
"why do you hate me so much?" hoseok challenged. the thought of 'nobody would reject the charm of hoseok' came to his mind.
"except serim." his subconcious retorted making him silently rolled his eyes.
serim let go of the pen from her grasp, and stared at hoseok.
"you wanna know the truth?" hoseok scoffed upon hearing serim's question.
"you really don't remember me do you?" hoseok gave her a questioning look.
"it's me, serim, your summer girlfriend also, the girl you met a bet among your friends and dumped. except i didn't wear spectacles and parted my hair, at that time. you remember me now?"
hoseok was speechless. he did remember the girl. the girl who never failed to make him happy during summer. he didn't mean to let her go. it was his ego, towards his friends, afraid that he lost the bet between them. but since then, he knew, he did not once forget about that one special girl, that took his heart.
letting her go, hurting her, was equivalent to hurting himself. but in the end, pride and ego won him over.
*******
serim's routine were back to normal since the incident in the cafe. she refused to tutor hoseok, nor hoseok did try to approach her. classes went on as usual and of course the final test happened.
it was the day that the teacher announced the final test marks, also it was the last day of school. to their surprise, hoseok did proved himself. second placing next to serim. the students were in shock.
hoseok proved himself that he can be better. he did apologized to serim, for what he did for the past summer. however, serim didn't even glance at him, neither did she forgive him, for breaking her heart.
hoseok vowed to himself, to challenge his own self, to get good grades, and to stop bullying the inferior. a month passed and finally he did avenged himself by getting good grades and zero disciplinary records.
of course, serim was appalled by the fact. the teacher was praising hoseok but not forgetting giving credits to serim for tutoring him, or so the teacher thought.
serim, for being a soft, goody two shoes, felt guilty because she did nothing to help hoseok.
at the end of the class after bidding farewell, serim called out hoseok who was on his way out of the school compound she did not uttered a single word at him, instead hoseok did.
"serim, i am truly sorry for what i did." he began to stand up.
"to be honest, you were, no, are the best thing that has happened in my life. i was in awe at you, your warmthness. i am sorry. i was wrong. it was wrong for me to do it, and again i am sorry."
serim's eyes were glistening with tears. she saw the sincerity in his eyes.
"i promise to win you over, serim. we'll be graduating soon, give me time to win you over. i hope we could start over. don't you ever doubt me. trust me, i will." serim nodded, crying.
hoseok opened up his arms for her to reach. instead, he pulled her, making her fall into his embrace, engulfing her.
they say, forget the past, start anew. everyone deserves a second chance, especially in love. that was the beginning of their chapter, together.
