The Forest [Chapter 23]

"Hello everybody! My name is Markiplier and welcome back to The Forest with: Jack!" He grinned into his camera.

"Hey guys! I'm now in America! Woo!" He cheered in his own separate recording room, also smiling at the camera.

"Yeah, we actually have separate rooms to record in. Luckily we were able to get Jack's sorted out not too long after we got here. A few days at the most." Mark explained, as he was trying to also keep his eyes on the game on the screen.

"Jesus christ though! It's been so damn long since I've played this!" Jack said, as he was trying to cut down a tree within the game.

"Me too. I don't even know if there's been any updates since we last played." Mark commented.

"Who knows? I forgot what we were doin' last time..."

"Wasn't it like--" Mark started.

"Oh! I know!" Jack exclaimed, interrupting him. "We were like a married couple! And we were tryin' to survive n shit while talkin' about the whole feminism thing."

"Hey, that'd probably be more canon now in this regard." Mark joked, as Jack let out a small giggle. "Oh yeah, the feminism thing. When you made your accent thicker, right? Like the stereotypical Irish person? Ah, good times."

"Yeah!" Jack agreed. "Oh yeah, also, sort of just changing the subject to-- Oh my god! Mark, the fuckin' sharks are still multiplying!" Jack cried, as he walked right into a shark, causing it to multiply into two. He heard Mark's laugh, which caused him to grin and lose his train of thought.

"Anyway, what was I sayin'? Oh yeah! So, a lot of you guys seemed to be asking me about how I was, obviously with the whole moving thing, seeing as I've been in America for almost a week now. And I've been pretty good! A lot better than I expected to be honest!"

"Oh, 'cause of the whole homesick thing?" Mark asked, still staring at his screen intently as he also played the game while trying to talk at the same time.

"Yeah. I was honestly expecting myself to get A LOT more homesick than I have been but... It's been alright." Jack smiled. "Thank you guys for being so concerned though!" He added with a small laugh.

"Anyway," Mark started. "We need to build another tree house, otherwise we're gonna be F'd in the A."

"Yeah, uh, Mark, about that... There kinda seems to be some of those people walking around over by those trees and it's kinda worrying me." Jack nervously grinned.

"Hey, it'll be fiiine. Anyway, I just need--"

"Mark! They're fucking coming over here! They're gonna attack you if you don't fucking run!"

"Hey, wait-- Jack, what the hell, did you leave me?!" He cried with a smile. Jack laughed.

"Well, you were being too slow! And you're supposed to be the husband, god dammit!"

The two continued to play their game of The Forest, before they had both decided that they had recorded enough for an episode. Each doing their outros for both of their own videos, they rounded the video off, before stopping the recording altogether.

"That was so fun!" Jack squealed, as he and Mark were still in a Skype call after the recording ended. Mark grinned.

"Indeed. I feel so tired though. It's been a long day of recording videos." He yawned, stretching back in his chair. Jack nodded in agreement.

"Yeah... I think I'm gonna record a few more though. I want to be able to keep up with my upload schedule, I'm really proud of it as I've never missed an uploading time once." Jack said proudly.

"Alright, just don't work yourself too much, y'know."

"Don't worry, Mark. I won't." Jack smiled.

"Okay, well, I'm gonna edit this video and then go to bed. Love you, Jack!"

"Love ya too, Mark! Sleep well." He said, before hanging up on the call. With a small yawn, he flopped back into his chair, having a short time to relax before he got started on another video.

Like he had said during the video, while playing The Forest with Mark, he was surprised that he was feeling as good as he was - living here in L.A. He imagined feeling so much worse and so much more homesick.

But perhaps having Mark around, living under the same roof as him, is what kept him comforted. He knew he was safe with Mark around, and he knew he could go to him, if he was feeling at all hopeless. He felt that Mark felt the same.

Another few recording sessions later, Jack drank the last bit of coffee from his mug, and got ready to start editing some videos and thumbnails for the next day to upload. It was currently 10pm... It was probably going to be a long night, but he was only going to edit two or three. After all, SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK!!!

But, obviously he had to go to sleep eventually, whether he wanted to or not. He had to keep his health in check, after all.

It was probably around 2am now, where he finally decided to lie down in bed. However, for some reason, no matter how much he tossed and turned within his bedsheets, he just couldn't get comfortable.

He stared up at the darkness, as he thought whether or not he should go in to Mark's room and explain he couldn't sleep. Though, he didn't want to piss Mark off. It was 2am after all. He wouldn't blame him for being cranky if he woke him up.

Instead, he pulled himself up out of bed, quietly making his way to the kitchen to find a snack to eat, and maybe even something to drink. But, as he was opening one of the cabinets to find something, a few sauce pans and other kitchen resources fell out, making loud clanging noises as they hit the kitchen floor.

"Shhh!" Jack hushed them, as if doing that would make a difference.

"You're up late, aren't you?"

Jack quickly faced towards the kitchen door, seeing Mark in his sleep wear (a white shirt, warfstache bottoms) as he sleepily rubbed one of his eye sockets. Jack gave him an apologetic look, but Mark just smiled.

"Hey, talk about Déjà Vu." Mark chuckled, remembering back to a time, when he had found Jack in his kitchen once before, because he couldn't sleep.

"Heh... Sorry..." Jack sighed, scooping up the things off the floor and shoving them back into the cabinet.

"It's fine, Jack. You should have just told me you couldn't sleep. I wouldn't have minded."

"Yeah but... It's 2am, Mark... And, no offense, but I just don't want it to seem like I can't look after myself now, just because we're together." Jack slightly flinched at his choice of words and shook his head. "I mean--"

"Don't look so worried, Jack. I get it." Mark smiled, reassuring him. "I'm sorry, I guess I just worry about you a lot, that's all."

"No, Mark, it's fine. I know you mean well." Jack replied, walking across the kitchen and giving his boyfriend a hug. "I know you mean well..." He repeated.
