I'm sorry [Chapter 29]

Standing outside the building, Jack was trying to catch his breath. He stood with his hands on his knees, still recovering from the ordeal that had occurred just merely half an hour ago.

Luckily, Mark had managed to locate their four other friends and alerted them of the situation. Despite being drunk, they all took it very seriously and ended up leaving with them, keeping an eye on Jack as he calmed.

"Shit... I can't believe some asshole tried to beat you up. I'm so sorry, man. Maybe we shouldn't have come here." Danny frowned as he crossed his arms. Jack shook his head.

"Everyone, stop apologizing... I'm fine... It's no one's fault... Some people are just utter pricks who want to watch the world burn..." Jack murmured. He tried to stand upright and leaned against the wall behind him as he took a sharp intake of breath.

"Jack... You seem like you're really hurt." Ken pointed out.

"I told you, I'm fine!" Jack argued, trying to focus on his breathing.

You're clearly not, bro." Felix said.

"Jack, you keep pulling weird faces, like you're in pain." Mark murmured. "Does it hurt when you breathe?"

"No!" Jack said, furrowing his eyebrows, before his face started to relax. "I mean, no... It doesn't..." He paused. "Okay, fuck. I'm lying, it does."

"Oh fuck, what did the guy do to you, Jack?!" Mark cried, clearly worried.

"Well, he got a good punch on my face, before I fell over and he went for my ribs.." He painfully admitted. "That's when I managed to crawl into a stall and escape... Look, I'm sure it's nothin'..."

"Still, we should get you to a hospital. Call an ambulance or something, seeing as it's pretty far to walk and the only completely sober person here is Mark." Arin pointed out. Jack exhaled.

"Fuck... I hate hospitals... They give me the fuckin' heeby jeebees." Jack shivered.

"Same here. But don't worry. I'm gonna be by your side at all times, all right?" Mark reassured him, taking one of his hands.

"Alright..." Jack whispered, looking scared as he rested his forehead against Mark's and Ken decided to call for an ambulance.

"If I knew who that guy was, I'd fucking kick his ass." Arin mumbled, when Ken had hung up the phone after calling and explaining the situation.

"The ambulance should come soon." Ken reassured him, placing a light hand on his shoulder.

"R-Right..." Jack stammered, trying to keep his focus on what was going on. "Ugh, I feel like shit." He said, closing his eyes and furrowing his eyebrows.

"Well, you did have like, 5 or 6 glasses to drink." Felix pointed out

"Don't worry, Jack." Mark muttered, keeping his eyes fixated on Jack's pained face. "It's all going to be okay..."

It wasn't long before the blaring of the ambulance could be heard getting louder and closer. They pulled over, got out the ambulance and were again addressed of the situation calmly by Mark. They decided to take one of those stretchers out of the back, allowing Jack to lie on it so he wouldn't be forced to walk over to the ambulance in the state of dizziness that he was in.

"Are we all allowed to go?" Ken wondered, asking one of the paramedics. They were half expecting them to say no, but to their surprise they were all allowed to join Jack in the back, as they were drove all the way to the hospital.

Mark was worried when they had got there, and they were all told to wait in the waiting room as he was pulled away from them. He wanted to stick by his side. To hold his hand and tell him everything was going to be okay. After all, he was sure Jack was scared, especially considering the fact that he couldn't seem to breathe properly.

Arin frowned, pacing back and forth in the waiting room, as the others sat in chairs, watching him.

"Can you stop fucking doing that? You're gonna drive me up the damn wall." Ken complained.

"Well, I'm just fucking worried, that's all!"

"We all are, Arin. But I can't imagine how terrified Jack is, or Mark for that matter. He hasn't even said a word since we got here." Danny said, causing all of them to trail their gazes over to Mark who was sitting with his head bowed, and his hands clasped together in between his knees.

With a frown, Felix placed his hand on Mark's shoulder, giving him a gentle shake. Mark glanced over to him, and Felix grinned, trying to somewhat make him feel better. He ended up responding with a bittersweet smile in return.

To break the silence, a doctor finally entered the room, walking over to them. He didn't seem to look deeply concerned, or have a sullen look on his face, like they do in the movies when they go to tell you bad news.

"You may see Sean now." He said. "Well, one of you can. We don't want the room getting too crowded."

"Mark can." Danny answered. Everyone but Arin nodded in agreement.

"Well, is he okay?!" Arin cried, as Mark got up from his seat. The doctor nodded.

"Don't worry, he's going to be just fine." He answered, before turning to Mark and motioning for him to walk ahead. Mark was lead along a hallway, before stopping at a door and pushing it open. He saw Jack inside, lying on the hospital bed looking a lot more relaxed than he had earlier. Mark beamed with happiness, as he stepped into the room towards him.

"I'll allow you two a minute." The doctor smiled, closing the door behind him and leaving the room.

"Mark..." Jack whispered, reaching out for him. Mark took another step forward, planting his lips on Jack's as a tear had happened to slide down his face. Their lips slowly moved in sync in a passionate kiss, before Mark broke it by pulling away. He smiled.

"Geez, relax Mark. I'm not fuckin' dying." Jack chuckled.

"Are you okay, though? You had me so fucking worried!"

"I'm fine, Mark. It's not really anythin' super serious, just a bruised rib, that's all. Luckily nothing is broken." He sighed in relief.

"I'm glad to hear..." Mark paused. He screwed his face up for a moment, as if he was resisting the urge to just not utterly burst into tears. "I'm still so sorry I wasn't there... If I was, maybe I could have--"

"Hey, Mark, it's okay." Jack interrupted. "It doesn't matter, because I'm fine. Nothing super bad happened."

"But you got hurt! And if that prick had hit you any harder, he could've killed you!"

"But he didn't... I'm okay. Really. I'm okay, Mark." Jack said, closing his eyes and pulling Mark's face to his, giving him another kiss.

"I'm okay..."
