Chapter 9: Thrasherpaw

Thrasherpaw's heart still drummed heavily in her chest, she kept looking back at Snowpaw to make sure she was still okay, even if she got the occasional glare. She felt herself slow her pace whenever she noticed Snowpaw get further behind, even if she was the fastest one she knew she could outpace even Larkpaw, who she always had to shout to slow down and keep up, by walking. Even if she wasn't a true Windclan cat, she definitely had the build of one.  Beyond the mountains (which were very much a pain in the tail to climb,) was a stretch of moor lands Thrasherpaw wanted to run around. A moor she could be running around if her stupid mind would stop worrying about Snowpaw. Mind you! she scolded her own brain. This is the same Snowpaw that made fun of you for being an ex-rogue! The memory made her fur prickle, she gave Snowpaw a quick glance, the Riverclan molly was slowly trailing behind Thrasherpaw and Larkpaw-- well, more than Thrasherpaw. Larkpaw kept running forward, gasping loudly, running back and playfully swatting at anything that flew past. The Windclan apprentice rolled her eyes but she never seemed to have the heart to scold Larkpaw for acting like a kit. Thrasherpaw looked back at Snowpaw and surprisingly their gazes met, greenish-amber bored into deep river blue intently. Thrasherpaw wondered when her paws stopped moving, for a heartbeat- or in her wild imagination. Thrasherpaw thought she saw a flicker of emotion in the Riverclan apprentice's eyes before it was quickly covered, buried and then hidden away forever by a cold, angry glare "What are you looking at rogue?" Snowpaw growled, Thrasherpaw narrowed her eyes and whipped her head around, she stared after Larkpaw who was now in a hunting crouch, he slowly made his way towards a squirrel. Thrasherpaw observed as the Thunderclan tom slowly crept at the red furred creature, suddenly a bird call rang overhead, the squirrel whipped around and spotted Larkpaw. Thrasherpaw's tail drooped, she expected to see the russet prey run towards the nearby tree and disappear among the leaves but the animal simply let out a loud chitter and ran straight towards Larkpaw. The Thunderclan tom quickly backed away before turning around and retreating quickly from the squirrel that was tailing him quickly, Larkpaw's whiskers twitched before she let out howls of amusement, the squirrel paused and looked in her direction, its' black beaded eyes glittered, almost as if it was contemplating whether or not taking on two cats was a smart idea, it raised itself onto it's hind legs, let out another chitter and it scampered off, it's bushy tail twitching behind it. Thrasherpaw dug her claws into the ground and raced towards it, wind rustled her fur as she sped along the grass, her heart soared as the squirrel got closer.. and closer.. a fox-length, a tail length a whisker- White fur flashed across her path, russet fur disappearing among it, like a fox being buried in snow. Thrasherpaw stopped sharply and whipped her head towards Snowpaw who now had a squirrel dangling in her jaws.

"I had that!" Thrasherpaw hissed, her tail lashing, Snowpaw's eyes glittered with malicious amusement, "Well I caught it." The white furred she-cat sneered, Thrasherpaw felt her haunches raise, in the corner of her vision, claws glinted in the light. "Whoa whoa whoa! It doesn't matter who caught it- What matters is that we have food now. Thrasherpaw, I scented a rabbit near that bush." Larkpaw meowed quickly, nodding his head towards a nearby shrub, beyond it, a patch of gray and white fur moved along it carelessly. Larkpaw's nervous gaze flickered from one cat to the next, occasionally flicking down to their paws for any signs that they might unsheathe their claws and rip each other to shreds. "I'd like to see you catch that, Riverclan cat." Thrasherpaw growled, "Perhaps I should come along to make sure you do catch it and bring it back and not just eat it by yourself, rogue." Snowpaw snarled back. Larkpaw stepped in front of the white pelted she-cat and nodded at Thrasherpaw to go on.

As the Windclan apprentice made her way silently to the rabbit she knew that any  journey would take a toll on her well-being. Especially if snooty, uptight and haughty Riverclan apprentice came along, no matter how beautiful she looked.
