Chapter 21: Snowpaw
It was dark, wet and.. unsettling. The darkness seemed alive, the droplets were like someone was tapping their claws against the stone.
drip drip drip
There always seemed like there was whispers too, whenever she finally felt at ease there would be a sudden cold air to blow her fur gently, carrying a soft hush with it and it just made her stand on end all over again. "Remind me," Snowpaw meowed in a sniffy tone. "WHY are we here?" She asked Webs, who hadn't said ANYTHING. Which, in Snowpaw's opinion, was WEIRD and noting that Webs had woken Snowpaw from the small nap she was taking from the TWO DAY LONG JOURNEY she had to make when she nearly DROWNED was just plain RUDE. She assumed Webs hadn't saved many cats. "We're looking for our camp?" Webs replied, looking back at Snowpaw. our? Webs must have read her mind because a few heartbeats later she meowed, "Felicity and my camp. We share it together, it's where our food is, and it's dry." Snowpaw doubted that very much, everything looked wet in the cave, even Webs looked droopy and tired, her soft, kind eyes made her look like she had a river's worth of water dumped on her face. "Well. Are we almost there?" Snowpaw muttered, stepping into what she counted as the fifth puddle of water.
"You are here," A voice echoed. Snowpaw yelped, jumping and landing in the puddle of water at the same time a orange and white she-cat padded out of the shadows. "Felicity!" Webs purred, it was the most alive Snowpaw had ever heard her sound, she cleaned the water out of her eyes just in time to see Webs embarrassingly move away from Felicity, who was rubbing her nose with her paw. "Webs," Felicity purred, giving the misty blue cat a lick over her ear, blargh, romance, Snowpaw thought distastefully. "You're from Riverclan, aren't you? About, hm, 7 Moons? I'm going to assume your name ends in 'paw, but then again the clans might have changed since we've left." Smart, Snowpaw realized, She's revealing that she's good at analyzing and she was part of a clan, so anyone not in a clan would have assumed she was an expert fighter. Snowpaw narrowed her eyes and then let out a scream of horror. Felicity was in more light now, and for the first time Snowpaw realized something that was starting to make her stomach twist.
Half of Felicity's face had been bitten off.
Felicity jumped back, hurt and slight anger shone in her eye. Webs hurried forward and gave her a comforting touch on her furless side. "Yes, she's from Riverclan," Webs meowed, her face hidden in Felicity's neck, "You know what that means, right?" She mumbled, it was so soft Snowpaw had to angle her ears to hear her. "Yes." Felicity muttered, "They're still sending out cats." Felicity looked at Snowpaw, oh, she wants me to confirm. The white apprentice realized, she nodded. "Yes, the territories are running out of prey, so they sent me, Larkpaw and Thrasherpaw to find some." Felicity blinked, surprised. She tipped her head at Snowpaw, "There's only three of you?" She mumbled, her brow furrowing. "What about the fourth clan representative?" Snowpaw jumped, she hadn't realized how long these cats must of been gone from the clan, it was beginning to dawn on her now. "Yes.. Shadowclan was disbanded after a huge war.." Snowpaw mumbled slowly, she didn't know where Felicity was from and because of the rogue name, it was much harder. The injured molly sucked in a sharp breathe and Webs let out an anguished sob, "Oh Felicity, if Littlepaw.." She cried, Felicity wrapped her tail around Webs' holding her closely as if she were going to suddenly fade into the shadows of the cave. "I know.. he'd be upset.. but at least he's with his family now.." She touched Webs' ear with her nose, whispering probably more comforting words. "Wait, aren't there supposed to be more of you?" Snowpaw yelped out, she looked around trying to see if she can catch glimpses of other cats lurking in the shadows. Felicity looked at her with a slight blaze in her eyes, oh, I'm about to get a history lesson.
