Chapter 20: Thrasherpaw

Thrasherpaw landed on the ground with a thump, her haunches shaking. "What do you mean it doesn't attack? That thing attacked Larkpaw!" She snarled, advancing to the long furred black molly. The molly blinked at the she, her eyes assessing Thrasherpaw, almost uncomfortably, "Talk!" She spat. The black molly blinked slowly, "You remind me of your aunt," she meowed slowly, everything about the black cat seemed to be slowed down, in fact, her movements, her speech, it even seemed to take her a heartbeat so switch emotions. Thrasherpaw felt a cold shiver run down her spine, "Wh-what?" She snarled at herself mentally for the stutter, act brave mouse-for-brain! She could hear herself sneer. "Yes," The black molly nodded, as if agreeing with something someone had whispered in her ear, "Your aunt, what was her name again? Mary? Mary.. Maryy..." The cat hummed, her brow furrowing thoughtfully, "Marilyn!" She mewed, congratulating herself. Thrasherpaw assumed from the bright glow in the cat's eyes. "Maybe." Thrasherpaw spat, narrowing her eyes. "What she to you?" The bright glow wavered, anger? Sadness? Resent? Thrasherpaw found it so difficult to read this cat's face.
Then it clicked.

Thrasherpaw figured out why she was so unsettled by this cat.

She hadn't shown one hint of emotion at all. The slow flickers seemed so artificial now.. no wonder they took so long to register on the molly's face.

Because they weren't real emotions.
