Chapter 16: Larkpaw
The stars shimmered above, glinting at Larkpaw smugly, too smugly in fact. It gave him, the aura of 'Haha, we know where your friend is but we wont tell you! Haha!'
It was infuriating, really. Larkpaw rolled over, his tail twining with Thrasherpaw's . "Thrasherpaw..?" he asked, the she-cat responded with a tired murmur "Do.. Do you think we'll find Snowpaw?" He tightened his tail around her's and felt the shudder that passed through them both, he heard her breath catch in her throat. "Yes." Thrasherpaw meowed, Larkpaw wished he could share the determination in her voice. "I can't sleep," Larkpaw wasn't sure why he said that exactly, but before he knew it he felt Thrasherpaw's head under his chin, he shuddered at the feeling of her warm breath on his fur. He closed his eyes finally and let sleep drift into his mind.

It took Larkpaw a moment to realize he wasn't in Thunderclan's camp, although they had been journeying for around three moons it still ached his heart to realize he wasn't in his nest and the cat he was curled with wasn't his brother. He remembered the pines with a painful twinge of his heart, he used to hate them, back at home, but now he wished Thrushpaw would appear out of the overgrowth and tackle him. "

Hey Lark! Look what I caught!" Thrasherpaw ran at him, skidding to a halt right at his paws, close enough for their whiskers to brush against slightly, Larkpaw shuddered. A bird dangled from the dark tabby's jaws, a lark. "Isn't it hilarious? That I would be the first one to catch a lark?" She snorted, Larkpaw gave her a light-hearted eyeroll and cuffed her ear playfully. "Oh shush you! Also you have dirt all over your fur, there's a shallow pool that comes off of the river, you could probably bathe there." He meowed, the playfulness wavered in Thrasherpaw's eyes for a moment, it still felt bitter to say the word river. Like they could taste the death. It had been almost a full moon cycle and they still couldn't find any hints that their friend made it out of the once swollen river.
Maybe it was time to give up..
