8. Wandering On The Streets
// Castiel's POV
Castiel tried to close his eyes tighter than they already were when the sun peeked in through the window. ((That stalker sun. Always watching us))
When the birds began to chirp rather loudly and off key, and car horns blared down the street, Castiel groaned and sat up.
What time was it? Castiel glanced at the clock on his wall that read it was around ten in the morning and sighed. Why were the cars all fussy this early?
Castiel rubbed his eyes and pulled the blanket off of him. He pulled on his worn out slippers and walked into the bathroom.
He was in the middle of brushing his teeth when he remembered what he was supposed to be doing.
Castiel quickly pulled on an old shirt and jeans and headed for the box where he had placed the money in last night.
Just as he was opening the door, there was a loud banging on it.
Castiel ran to the door and swung it open. The landlord was standing there with two men.
"Oh! Good morning! I- I have your money in here!" Cas smiled widely and ran back inside.
"Mr. Novak. For your own good, I'd really like to talk to you." The landlord called.
"Don't worry! I'll have everything paid and-- " but Castiel cut himself off when he opened the box. More than half of the money was gone. He only had $200 left!
"W-what was it you needed to tell me?" Castiel asked, stepping back to the door with a dazed expression.
"I found out you were trying to hide bills from me." He said.
"W-what?" Castiel asked, his eyes wide.
"I found the copies of them-- you should know by now I keep two copies of these things. Turns out you never paid these off and the other copies are no where to be found. So you tell me Mr Novak. Did you actually try to hide these bills from me?"
Castiel felt his face grow hot. He looked down at his feet, clutching the money he had left in his hand.
He didn't know what to say. He couldn't lie...all the proof was there.
"I'm so sorry! I just needed more time to get the money and-- "
"That's all I needed to know." The landlord sighed before walking away. "Take his things and toss him on the curb."
"No! Wait! I can get the money! I just-- "
"What need time? I gave you enough of that. You're out, Novak. Besides, it doesn't even look like you have enough for the $800."
The men pushed Castiel to the side and he stood there to watch all his things be pushed out of the house. The only things that were his were canvases, paints, brushes, books, a few vases, and clothes.
They moved it all outside and kicked him out too.
Castiel stood there. On the side of the road. All his things piled by a post. Most of his paintings were ripped apart and his paints were spilled and flowing into the drain.
He slowly sank to his knees and cried inti his hands. People walked by, murmuring things. And if things weren't bad enough, it started raining five minutes later. ((Is this sad enough yet?))
Castiel's breathing was short. He was crying too hard. Everything was gone.
The paints washed away into the drains and his paintings smudged and became deformed.
Castiel looked down at his hands and witnessed as the remains of Dean's number washed away.
He knew no one else that could help.
All his things were ruined. Castiel stood up and walked away from it all. With some of the money he had left he bought himself a pack of beer. And he drank like there was no tomorrow.
He walked around the lonely streets, drinking, crying, and screaming.
He threw bottles around and drank some more.
The world was spinning. He didn't know where he was going.
Castiel wandered around, giggling and ranting when he heard a car horn blaring.
He looked up and saw two bright lights heading in his direction.
Castiel closed his eyes tightly, ready for the impact but when he opened them, he saw the car swerve past him, blaring his horn at him and yelling.
Castiel yelled back and kept walking.
He was in no mood to be yelled at.
((So I totally did not try to kill Cas *nervous laughter*))
+++++
It was midday. It was still raining-- in fact, it had gotten worse.
Castiel shivered underneath a highway bridge ((this is what happens when you stay in doors for so long...you forget of the outside world)). He had run out of beer but he was still pretty drunk.
He was pretty sure all his things were ruined by now. He didn't want to go back.
And this all happened because he tried to get rid of the stupid bills.
How was he stupid enough to think he'd get away with that?! ((Well, apparently extremely stupid))
Castiel looked around at the cars zooming by, splashing more water on to him. Castiel wrapped his arms around himself and began to rock back and forth.
He should have just raised enough money to pay off what he owed him.
Bur where had the rest of his money gone? He was missing more than half of it.
Castiel wiped his eyes and nose. He was tired. He needed to sleep...his eyes were droopy and his stomach begged for food.
Castiel looked around before laying down on his side and closing his eyes. The ground was hard and gravely. It would take him forever to get comfortable. If you added and blanket and worn out pillow, it would've been his couch/bed.
((Are you guys sad yet?))
At some point...he did fall asleep. He didn't know when or how but he did. And in his sleep he was just being cornered by all the problems and regret of his life.
He just wanted it all to end.
Everyone that's hurt him was there, pointing and laughing and talking. Cas couldn't make out the words they were saying but he knew it was bad.
"Cas?" He heard someone call.
Castiel looked around but he saw no one else.
"Cas!"
No one.
Everyone in his dream was frozen.
"CAS!"
Castiel opened his eyes and tried to catch his breath.
He looked around at his surroundings. He was still under the bridge and it was still raining. It was dark out, the moon wrapped up in the blanket of dark clouds.
There was a car parked at the curb next to him. The trunk was opened and someone was looking inside it.
Castiel sat up and narrowed his eyes, trying to get a better look at the situation. His neck and back hurt. And his head was pounding. Well duh, he was sleeping on the streets!
The figure closed the hood and walked-- no ran up to him, carrying something in his arms.
"Here..." the figure said, wrapping what he figured out was a blanket around him.
Castiel pulled the blanket tighter around himself and looked up at the man who was now crouched next to him.
"Dean?"
Dean smiled and nodded.
"Hey Cas...come on..." Dean helped him up and lead him towards his car.
Castiel moved the blanket so he wouldn't get the sear wet, since he was drenched in rain water.
Dean opened the door on his side and stepped inside, starting the engine.
"Cas, wrap the blanket around yourself."
"But the seat it-- "
"It doesn't matter. I can fix it up later. Wrap the blanket around yourself."
Castiel complied and wrapped it around himself. Dean began driving when Castiel scrunched up his nose, covered his face with the blanket and sneezed.
Dean smiled and kept driving.
"That's adorable."
Castiel blushed and looked away.
"So why are you sleeping on the streets?" He asked.
Castiel tightened his grip on the blanket and shook his head.
"I was stupid. That's all there is to it."
Dean looked at him and kept driving.
"Cas...what happened?"
"I just thought I could get away with something but it only made it worse."
Dean was still looking at him, glancing at the road only a few times.
"Come on, man. Just tell me. You'll feel a whole lot better if you let it out."
Castiel looked away and bit his lip.
"I...a while ago, I hid a few bills, thinking it would give me more time to pay the rest off. And it was all going well. He hadn't found out about the whole thing...but this morning he came to my apartment and told me he had found out. And the money we raised was all gone. I was kicked out. All my stuff is still on the street outside the apartment and it's all wet and ruined. I...I have no where else to stay."
Dean closed his eyes and sighed before opening them.
"You can stay with me."
Castiel looked at him with wide eyes. Dean wasn't looking at him anymore. He was looking straight at the road.
"But-- "
"You're staying at my place, got it?"
Castiel sighed and nodded, looking down at his lap. ((Boner? Sorry, no boner))
+++++
"Sammy! We're home!" Dean called, stepping into the rather nice house.
"We?" A voice called, popping up by them. "Who's this?"
The boy had shaggy hair and towered over both of them.
"Sam, this is Cas. Cas, this is Sam, my younger brother."
Castiel smiled and nodded.
"Nice to meet you Sam."
"Like wise."
"So, Sam, we got any spare rooms?" Dean asked, stepping into the kitchen.
"Dean you should know this place. We only have one spare." Sam bitch faced.
"I don't need a room! I can just sleep in the living roo-- " He was cut off by his own sneezing.
"Uh, I'm taking the spare, Cas, you're sleeping in my room." Dean said.
Castiel shook his head, now coughing.
Sam narrowed his eyes and slowly stepped away.
"You should take his room." Sam whispered before disappearing.
"Dean, I can't take your room. I can sleep in the living room or the spare room." Cas tried to reason.
"I'm not having any of it. You're sleeping in my room and that's that."
Dean began to walk off into a room, which Cas assumed was his.
"Come here!" He called.
Castiel quickly ran in and ended up having clothes tossed at him.
"Shower's next door." Was all Dean said before walking out of the room.
Castiel gave a small smile and followed the directions to the bathroom.
He undressed and placed his clothes in a corner. But the door swung open.
"Cas I-- "
"DEAN!"
"OH SORRY!"
Dean covered his eyes while Cas wrapped a random towel around his face.
"I-- I j-just wanted to tell you t-to toss your clothes outside so I c-could wash them." Dean muttered.
"They're i-in that corner." Cas pointed.
"Uh..."
Castiel rolled his eyes and reached down to grab the clothes. He stood back up with the clothes in his hands only to notice Dean was standing closer to him and his eyes were uncovered.
"Here..." Cas whispered.
"Thanks." Dean took the clothes in his hands and looked down at Cas' lips. ((EHEHE))
Castiel looked up at him and Dean liked his own lips.
Dean began to lean forward and Cas closed his eyes.
"Dean? Dean!" Sam yelled causing them to jump away from each other.
"God dammit, Sammy." Dean mumbled.
Castiel's face flushed and he quickly pushed Dean out of the room, shutting the door.
He sighed and pulled the towel off and stepped in the shower.
Halfway through, he was looking for shampoo. He picked up a small bottle, opened it and smelled it.
It smelled nice. Like Dean. It smelled like apples...Dean smelt like apple pie but okay.
Castiel pouted the shampoo on his hands, put away the bottle down and began to wash his hair.
Once he finished, he dried his hair then wrapped the towel around his waist and looked around for the clothes Dean gave him.
He slipped on the shirt and the rest of the clothes before stepping outside. ((I just realized he's wearing Dean's boxers))
"Dean?" He asked, stepping outside.
"In here!" Dean called.
Castiel followed the voice and ended up bumping into Sam.
"Oh, sorry!"
Sam smiled and shook his head.
"Don't worry. Night Cas...I'll see you tomorrow."
Cas nodded and proceeded to walk towards where Dean was.
"Oh...and if you and Dean do anything, please keep it down." Sam smirked and walked into his room, shutting the door.
Castiel's face flushed and he finally made it to Dean's room.
He was fixing a few blankets and pillows.
"This is your room?" Cas asked, looking around.
Dean nodded and patted the bed.
"Sure is. You're staying here."
Castiel sighed and walked next to him.
"Thanks again." He smiled.
Dean returned the smile and nodded.
"I'll be in the pare room if you need anything-- down the hall to your right."
And he walked away.
Castiel noticed that he hadn't even looked him in the eye.
He sighed and jumped in the bed. It was soft and comfortable-- and it smelled like Dean.
Castiel turned around and nuzzled his face in the pillow, inhaling the scent.
He sighed and slowly drifted to sleep.
He didn't know when or how but he felt the weight of the bed shift around as if someone was laying down next to him.
Castiel slowly opened his eyes and saw Dean climbing under the blankets with him.
"Dean?"
Dean looked up at him, eyes wide, as if he didn't want anyone to know he was there.
"C-Cas! Hi."
It looked as if Dean was getting out of bed so Castiel wrapped his arms around his waist and pulled him back down.
"Cas?"
"Stay...please." Cas mumbled, nuzzling his face against Dean's hip.
Dean smiled and laid down. Castiel smiled at him tiredly.
"Cas...?"
Castiel hummed a reply. He wasn't really listening. He was already half asleep.
"Listen...sorry about earlier. And yesterday. I honestly don't know what's gotten into me. People know me as the guy who knows how to get all the ladies. Then you waltz your way into my life and...it all comes crashing down. I feel at home with you. And I don't know how I can come to conclusions this quickly in our friendship but...I...I think-- "
Dean was cut off by the sound of Castiel's soft snoring. He smiled and scooted closer to him so their noses touched.
Dean closed his eyes and closed the space between them. It was a soft kiss. And in that quiet, still room, he could've sworn Castiel kissed back.
Dean pulled back and sighed, turning over on his back and covering his face with his arm before whispering to know one but Cas.
"I think I'm in love with you."
