6. I'll Take Twenty
\\T W O D A Y S//
// Castiel's POV
Castiel woke up that morning feeling something completely different. He felt...happy. Well, happier than he's been in a while.
He had the most amazing dream. He had met a man with a guitar and they sang and danced. It was beautiful...and so was he. His eyes were this beautiful green color.
Castiel stretched his arms out in front of him only to see a number scribbled on his hand.
Holy shizzles! It wasn't a dream!
Castiel quickly pulled on a pair of jeans, not bothering to put on a shirt and ran out the door and into the hall where there was a pay phone.
He quickly dialed the number and placed it to his ear, hoping someone answered.
It was silent for a while before it began ringing.
It rang around five times before the sound of someone picking up the phone filled his hears.
"Hello?" A scruff, low, tired voice spoke.
Castiel had to pull the phone away from his ear for a while to quietly scream to himself. Someone answered! OMG YAY SOMEONE ACTUALLY ANSWERED! But what if it's not Dean?
"H-hi. Who am I speaking with?" Castiel asked in a quiet voice.
"Well you're the one who called-- anyway, this is Dean,"
Castiel smiled widely and jumped around happily.
"Okay who is this?" Dean asked, a hint of frustration in his voice.
Castiel calmed himself down and took in a few deep breaths.
"C-Castiel. . ."
There was silence for what seemed like forever.
Did he not remember?
Was he that easy to forget?
But Dean had asked him out on a date. He should remember who he is.
"Castiel?" Dean asked, as if he had no idea who he was speaking with. Castiel felt his heart drop to the bottom of his stomach. Dean had forgotten him. It had been less than a full day. He should have expected this. Things like this usually happen anyway.
"Cas!" There was a cry of excitement on the other side of the phone, causing Cas to jump back a little.
"Y-yes?"
"Oh god Cas! Sorry if it seemed like I didn't remember you man. It's what, 6AM and I didn't get much sleep last night so yea. Anyway, still up for that date?"
Castiel's heart fluttered and he nodded frantically, only to realize Dean couldn't hear him.
"Yes! Of course I am!"
Dean laughed and Castiel could hear him smiling all the way from his apartment.
"Okay well I'll come pick you up at around two?"
"S-sure. . .that sounds okay." He whispered.
"Great. Well, I'll see you in a few hours, Cas."
Castiel nodded and hung up, sliding down against the wall.
((Okay so this probably isn't so important but the way I'm writing Cas' looks are 2014!Cas. Like, crack head Cas. You know the one who gets washed up for orgies. Okay keep reading.))
He ran his hands through his hair and smiled.
It was 6AM. He had plenty of time.
Castiel quickly stood up and ran back into his room, gathering a few paintings he had made.
He pulled on a loose, ragged shirt, shoes, and jacket before stepping out of the room again, dozens of paintings in his arms.
"Two days, Novak." The landlord reminded him as he walked past the lobby and out the door.
"Yes sir." Castiel mumbled before walking out into the run down neighborhood.
Hopefully he could sell some paintings and earn some money.
Castiel stood at the corner of a random street and set his things up, people (rich) watching him in disgust because of how he looked.
Castiel ignored them and arranged a few paintings so they were lined up against the wall of a shop.
He took a deep breath before setting up an empty canvas and placing the needed paints on the easel before looking around and smiling.
"Paintings! Paintings for sell! Please buy them!"
A few people looked at him but they kept walking.
"Please buy some paintings! They're not that expensive!" He called, painting the city in front of him.
+++++
It was around eight and he had only sold two paintings.
Castiel was almost done with his new painting, he just needed to add a few things.
He would never earn enough money at this rate. He owed the landlord $800. Currently, he had forty bucks. Well, $760 to go! *sarcastic yay*
"Excuse me sir?"
Castiel looked up from his painting and faces a woman with a kind smile and blue eyes. Her hair was wavy and past her shoulders.
"Yes?"
Her smile widened and she looked around at the paintings that were lined up.
"These are all very beautiful. I could use them to decorate my home. How much are they?"
Castiel's eyes brightened and he smiled.
"$20 per painting, ma'm."
Her smile faltered and she looked over at him.
"$20?!"
"Y-yes...." Cas knew she could see his disappointment. She looked rich, how could she not afford these.
"Sweetie, that's too cheap."
Castiel's head snapped back up and he looked at her with wide, hopeful eyes.
"I'll take...20 of them then."
Castiel's eyes widened even more and he almost knocked over the painting he was working on.
"What?!" He squeaked out. "T-that's $400 ma'm! Are you sure?!"
"Of course I am." She smiled. "These are lovely paintings and my new house is pretty big, so I need them to decorate. Besides, you look like you could use the money." She winked.
"..."
"Hello?"
"......"
"Um, Mr Painter?"
"THANK YOU!" Castiel cried, causing the lady to jump back.
"THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH!" Castiel cried over and over again, tears spilling from his eyes.
"Shhh. There there. You are most welcome." She smiled before pulling out the money, grabbing twenty paintings; they were all small canvases.
Castiel offered her help but she declined and said her husband was waiting just around the corner and she showed Cas who he was, just to prove it.
Her name was Hannah. And she gave Cas $400 dollars. Cas only needed $360 more to be able to pay.
Just a few more hundred dollars and he'd be good. He'd have paid off his two month debt. Then he'd have to worry about this months rent.
"I'm such a mess..." he whispered.
"Inside out..." someone else whispered into his ear.
Castiel jumped and turned around, almost knocking his painting over again and faced none other than the guitar man.
"D-Dean!"
"Heya Cas." He winked. "So I just sang a part of the song we sang yesterday, you know, the day we met?"
Castiel blushed and thought of the lyrics...
Oh, I'm a mess right now...inside out-- oh.
Castiel blushed darker and looked back at his painting, adding a shining effect to the windows of the buildings.
"Nice painting by the way." Dean smiled and ruffled his hair. "Are you selling these?"
"Yes. So far, I've sold 22 and I have earned...$440." He smiled to himself, feeling proud even if it was only three buyers.
"Well that seems like enough for today, eh?"
Castiel flinched, causing one of the windows to smear on the building.
"NO!" He yelled, causing Dean to jump back.
"Whoa man. Sorry. Crap! Cas your painting!"
"Dean I can't stop now! I only need $360 to finish! I'm almost done!" He pleaded, turning around so he could face Dean.
Dean looked extremely confused but he smiled softly and kissed the top of Cas' head.
"I'll wait. I'll even help you sell some, eh?"
"That's okay Dean I-- "
"Excuse me! Sir with the camera!" A random woman yelled.
Castiel looked at Dean's neck and barely noticed Dean had his camera hanging from it. He hoped Dean hadn't taken any pictures of him or anything.
"Yea?" Dean asked, standing close to Castiel.
"You have a camera, come with me!" The woman begged before grabbing his arm and dragging him away.
Castiel sat there, on his stool, a bit confused.
+++++
It was around midday and Castiel thought he should head home. Dean still hadn't returned but then again he had left at around 11:00.
Castiel had fixed the smeared window and now the entire painting was dry, he hadn't sold anything and frankly, he was getting tired.
All he wanted to do was go home, shower, and sleep.
Castiel had three paintings left and he wouldn't get the money he needed like that. Besides, they were three, small canvases.
Castiel packed those and his paints in his bag, folded the easel, and carried it with his painting and stool.
He carried them all the way back to his apartment. His arms were a bit tired and that just gave him another reason to sleep.
"Looks like you sold some paintings, eh Novak?" The landlord asked when Castiel walked passed the lobby. Like always, the stupid landlord was trying to win the heart of the receptionist lady at the desk in the lobby.
"Yes sir."
"I bet you didn't get much for them did ya?"
"You'll see soon enough." Castiel smirked and ran the rest of the way to his room, almost dropping his stool and canvas on the way.
He had around an hour and a half before Dean came to pick him up.
Where was he taken him?! Would he have to dress nicely?!
The only nice clothes he had weren't very nice. But he should wear them anyway.
((Hint hint: the picture))
After a few minutes, Cas was dressed in a loose shirt, jeans, and jacket and combat boots. It kinda reminded him of how Dean dressed.
There was about an hour left Castiel had nothing to do.
You could do Dean...he's not here at the moment. Yea but when he is-- shut up.
Castiel sighed flopped down on his couch-bed.
His eyes felt heavy...he was tired...Cas had always had trouble sleeping. He usually thought of bees and that calmed him down enough to doze off.
And that's what was going on now.
Castiel hoped that his brother was living a better life in college...

+++++
Castiel awoke to a light tapping at his door.
He slowly opened his eyes and tried stretching his legs out but it was a bit hard since he was in jeans-- wait what.
CRAP THE DATE!
Castiel quickly sat up and looked at the only clock he had in the shabby apartment.
3:27PM
NOOOOOOOO
It was late! It was really late!
Castiel groaned and pulled on his hair in frustration.
The knocking became louder and Cas sighed before wandering over to it, very upset with himself.
"Well hey there, Sexy." A voice said. Castiel quickly looked up and found Dean standing at the door, a smirk on his face.
What's he doing here?! I don't know! Kick him out! What?! No! HE'LL SEE YOUR FRIGGING POOR!
Castiel quickly stepped outside and slammed the door shut, pushing Dean back.
"H-hi Dean. How did you find my apartment?"
"Asked around. I was waiting you know? You're an our and a half late."
"Oh...yea sorry. I uh-- I fell asleep." Castiel muttered, looking down at his feet.
Dean smiled and ruffled his hair.
"That's alright. Besides, I'm just taking you to a simple diner. Nothing fancy smanshy."
Castiel looked up and smiled.
"That's fine. I had nothing nice to wear besides this so...yea."
Dean's smile widened and he began walking away, Castiel following close behind.
"Oh I see you found him, Mr Winchester." The landlord said, smiling at Dean.
"Yes sir I did." Dean smiled in return.
The landlord glared at Castiel and crossed his arms.
"You better get your ass back here soon if you want to pay that bill, Novak." He spat.
Castiel looked down at his feet and slowly nodded.
"What bill?" Dean asked. Castiel's head shot up and he began waving his hands frantically.
"N-nothing! I jus-- "
"Mr Novak here owes me two monthly bills. $800 total. And he's to poor to find the money so he better get back quick to try and earn it."
"$800? Cas why didn't you tell me I-- "
"You didn't need to know about it Dean. Those are my personal problems."
Dean's face hardened and he grabbed Castiel's hand and pulled him out of the building and towards his car.
"Dean what are you doing?" Castiel tried to stop him but before he knew it, he was in the passenger seat of the Impala.
Dean opened his own door and sat inside, starting the engine.
"Taking you to our date." Dean stated before turning to Castiel with a wide smile.
Castiel blushed and slowly nodded as Dean drove them away to their date.
*WELL HELLO THERE GUYS! I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THAT! WAS IT LONG? I HOPE IT WAS. I KNOW HOW YOU GUYS LIKE 'EM LONG -- what. Anyways, thanks for reading! Be looking forward to their date!
