We had been driving on and off for hours. On and off because there were times when Ria would start crying. Most of the crying was because she had shit her diaper. The first time she did it is when it finally occurred to us that we had no supplies for taking care of a baby.
We are now in the parking lot of a Walmart in Marietta, Georgia. Marietta is just a small town in Northern Georgia. Pretty soon we'll be in Tennessee. I am counting the money. I pull them off the roll one by one. Counting them aloud for dramatic effect.
          "One-hundred, two-hundred, three-hundred..........."
I counted up to five grand.
"Where the hell did your dad get all that money?!", Savvy asks, staring wide-eyed at the stack of friendly Benjamin Franklins.
         "I have no idea."
"Maybe he was whoring.", Savannah replies jokingly.
"Well that doesn't seem like too much of a stretch for him.", I respond. Ria gurgles in the back seat as if to agree. Savvy and I laugh.
"Alright," Savannah says, "Let's go spend some hundred dollar bills in Walmart." We laugh again.
I walk around to the trunk and take out Savvy's wheel chair. I went back around and lifted her out of the car, bridal style, to put her in the wheel chair, but first I spun her around and brought her lips to mine. But I only let them brush each other before I pulled away, teasing her. I say her down in her chair and she started to protest.
"Hey!", she whined, " You can't just do that to me!" I kneeled down next to her and brought my face as close to hers as possible.
"Time for that later.", I said. Savannah leaned in to try to kiss me anyway and we were almost there when little Ria started to cry. I pulled my face away and tapped Savannah's nose.
"Like I said, later." I winked at her and reached into the backseat to unbuckle Ria and take her out. She stopped crying as soon as she was in my arms, realizing that we had not forgotten about her. I have give Ria to Savvy so I can push the wheel chair.
Ria smiled and made little baby noises as Savannah played with her. They had taken a liking to each other. Adorable. I smiled as I pushed the two of them into Walmart.
"Okay so,"  Savannah said pulling out the shopping list she had made while I was counting the money. The list included:
          -Diapers
          -Baby formula
          -Playpen
          -Double sleeping bag
          -Blanket
          -Non-perishable food items
          -Baby clothes
So we set to work. Savvy directing me as to what to buy and and where to find it, me grabbing things off of shelves, and Ria gurgling happily from Savannah's lap.
The whole endeavor cost about 60 bucks. And they say Walmart has low prices. Ha!
When we were done shopping, we headed back to the car. I was putting Ria back in the car seat when something sticking out of a nook in the car seat caught my eye. It was a rolled up piece of paper. I took it and unrolled it. I immediately recognized mom's handwriting. The note read:
There is more cash under the seat. When you get where ever you're going, give me a call and I will see if I know anyone that you could crash with near by. I love you, Serena.
                                           -Mom
I was hit with a wave of sadness upon reading the note. Mom had put a lot of thought into this plan. She really did care. And all I'd ever done in return was hate her. I buckled Ria in as a single tear ran down my cheek. I reached under the seat and found the cash in a my old jewelry box from when I was like seven. It had a ballerina, but she was wearing black instead of pink because seven year old me was pretty emo and I recoloured her dress with sharpie marker. I smiled a bit at the memory. I dropped the note and the jewelry box off in the front seat and went around to the passenger side where Savannah was waiting for me to help her into the car.
"Took you long enough.", she joked.
"Tell you why when we get on the road."
Once everyone was in situated in the car, I started it up and drive. We were using Google Mapsfor directions. Thank the lord, Jesus Christ for 4G.
A few hours later we came to a sign that said "You are now entering Tennessee" and Savannah said,
          "Hey, Serena."
          "What's up, Savvy?", I reply.
"Are you from Tennessee? Cause your the only TEN I SEE!"
"Oh God, Savvy. If you're going to be spewing horrible pickup lines like that for the rest of the drive, then kill me now." I said, but I was laughing.
If there was anyone I would choose to go on a long ass road trip with, it would be Savannah Rose Marino.
