Isn't summer break just the best? I don't have to go to school with a bunch of asshats who call me fat and ugly and stupid and lesbo. It's great not having to see those "douche boats".
But it's also steaming hot here in Georgia. It's the end on June and 95 degrees Fahrenheit on average. Like, damn.
Right now Savannah and I are in my room singing along to Panic! At The Disco Songs.
"OH, WELL IMAGINE, AS IM PACING THE PEWS IN A CHURCH CORRIDOR AND I CAN'T HELP BUT TO HEAR, NO I CAN'T HELP BUT TO HEAR AN EXCHANGING OF WORDS"
And also
"IF YOU LOVE ME LET ME GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
I have an okay voice, but Savannah, it's like an audio version of God. Her voice is in the higher register and it's very light and airy. She's amazing. She insists I have an amazing voice and she is currently begging me to sing louder.
"Fine. I will."
I then proceed to scream out as loud as I can possibly sing,
"CHAMPAGNE COCAINE GASOLINE AND MOST THINGS IN BETWEEN. I ROAM THE CITY IN SHOPPING CART! A PACK OF CAMELS AND A SMOKE ALARM!" We both laugh.
"See, you're great.", she says poking my arm. I poke her back. We just smile at each other for a while. The song ends and the next one plays,
"Is it still me that makes you sweat? Am I who you think about in bed? When the lights are dim and your hands are shaking as yours sliding off your dress......", Savannah starts.
"Think of what you did and how I hope to God he was worth it. When the lights are dim and your heart is racing as your fingers touch his skin......", I continue.
"I've got more wit, a better kiss, hotter touch, a better fuck than any boy you'll ever meet, sweetie you had me.....", she finishes
"Girl how does it look past the sweat? A better love deserving of exchanging body heat in the passenger seat.......", I sing
"No no no, you know it will always just be me..."
"Let's get these teen hearts beating faster faster......."
We manage to sing the whole song without looking away from each other's eyes. Then the song ends and before I know it my lips have met hers.
The kiss isn't a hungry kiss. It's a starving kiss. Like our lips have been waiting a thousand years to meet. Suddenly we are laying down on the bed and the kiss gets more and more intense. In that moment I'm no longer confused about what I want. I want Savannah. I want her love. I want-
"What the hell!"
Savannah pulls away and we both look toward the doorway of my room where the voice came from. Oh shit. Shit shit shit shit shit!
It's my sperm donor. And he is hella pissed. His skin is dark and yet manages to turn a red-ish hue.
"I come here to tell you that your mother is currently in labor and what do I find? You, fucking a FEMALE cripple."
Now I'm pissed too.
"First of all, DO NOT call Savannah a cripple. Second of all, we weren't even fucking yet. Third of all, what does her gender have to do with anything?!"
He laughs a psycho laugh.
"You're goin' to hell, homo bitch."
"Oh, father, is that so? Then I'll see you there, you cheating asshole!"
This catches him off guard. He just stares at me with his mouth wide open, shocked. Savannah and I seize our chance and quickly leave. I load her wheelchair into the back of my Prius and help her into the passenger seat. Then I hit the gas. Savvy clicks on her seatbelt and asks,
"Where are we going, Peaches?"
"I have no idea.", I reply without looking at her.
"Maybe we should go to the hospital.", she replied rationally. And we should, but something makes me pull over. I stop the car and rest my head on the steering wheel. I start to cry. No, cry would be an understatement. I am full on sobbing.
"Peaches, what's the matter?", Savvy asks worriedly.
"He's gonna beat the shit out of me tonight. And I can handle it physically, but emotionally........"
"I'm so sorry. If I hadn't kissed you and-" I cut her off looking up at her.
"No. Don't blame yourself for this. The only one that is to blame is him."
Then I start up the car and drive toward the hospital. We ride in silence and when we get there I park the Prius and help Savvy into her chair. We go to the obstetrics (child birth) wing and go to the reception counter.
"Um, hi, I'm Serena Thomas. My mom is having my little sister and-"
"Mrs. Thomas is still in labor, please wait in over there.", she says in a bored tone as she points to the plastic chairs if the waiting room.
"But I'm FAMILY.", I persist.
"And?", she asks in the same uninterested voice.
"So I should be allowed to see my mother and my baby sister, goddamnit!", my voice is now raised. I have no idea why I am yelling at this poor woman who is just doing her job that she apparently hates. She doesn't even give second thought to my statement. She just points back toward the chairs and looks back down at her desktop. I walk to where Savannah has situated herself and I slump into a chair defeatedly. Everyone in the waiting room is staring at me.
"Take a picture, it'll last longer, Bastards.", I say in a bitter tone. They all quickly look away, and I put my head in my hands. Savvy is rubbing my back.
"What the hell is wrong with me?", I ask no one in particular.
"What's wrong is that you're human.", Savvy replies.
She always had a way of making me feel better.
