Captive

Concentrating on breathing, Camille is no different from any of his servants. Even though they're used to his presence, everyone has the same reaction when he appears. His eyes slowly drop down to Camille's unsteady arms gripping on the towel, having her exposed like she is. The god can't unsee the scars and bruises Camille has been carrying in silence throughout her life, and it's infuriating to see how her tender skin has been ruined by hatred. The god can't ignore the way Camille's soul screams for him to save her. Her eyes struggle to hide the desperation to clean her body from the filth she's been put through. He takes a deep breath to control the shock of having her face to face unexpectedly.

"Well, since I am here, are you going to stand there, or are you going to let me in, Camille?" She flinches at the sound of his husky masculine voice—a resonant tone of tenacity that makes her feel immediately protected and afraid at the same time. Realizing that she's still idiotically staring at him. "I'm so sorry." She blinks several times and moves out of his way.

The god takes a deep breath as he looks back at the moon. He closes his eyes to hold in a slight smile. Without realizing it, Camille let her guard down and let herself be drawn to him, something she's not supposed to do. Shyly she turns her back on him, squeezing her eyelids together. She takes a deep breath to help her muddle heart settle down.

"I should be the one apologizing," the god scratches his head, trying to ignore the eyes stalking him. "I apologize for surprising you." Although he sounds sincere, Camille can't focus on anything else but the fact that she's face to face with the so-called God of Water, the one responsible for her sudden trip to this magical land.

"Are you... the God-" she asks hesitantly, trying to think of the best way to talk to someone so lofty and intimidating. The god can't take his eyes away from her trembling back to see her slim shoulder hunched down; her wounds are exposed on her naked back. His eyes narrowed as he remembers that she's been crying for someone she longs for. His reaction to her presence raises a red flag in his mind. Surprisingly, the god understands Camille's desire to go back to her world, her loneliness, but he also knows the painful reality she has to face. He takes a step back to give her security. Symbolically, Camille is someone strong, but her soul has been harm to a level he can't allow himself to ignore.

"You may call me Axl..." he says, carefully measuring his condescending tone, but fails. Camille looks up to his eyes and notices the light of comfort he tries to give, reminding her of her conversation with Silvanus. Thanks to his warning, Camille understands that the god is not a bad man for herself. But his power is feared by everyone, and after catching a glimpse of it for herself, she's one of them. Camille nods, hoping that she won't trigger his anger by being impolite.

"I'm sorry I'm not dressed. I was taking a shower. I was told you weren't here." Camille closes her eyes to avoid eye contact. She can't let her heart sway by this man, but even if she's not looking at him, she's aware of his eyes on her. She can feel him contemplating her in silence, sending shocking waves deep in her soul, making her blood rush to her face, slightly burning her ears with nerve-wracking heat. The fact that Axl can hear her thoughts keeps him quiet, which only tenses her more. He tries to hide the amusement to see her flustered, not knowing what to do with herself.

"It is alright. I am not surprised," Axl tries to make her feel more relaxed about the unusual encounter, but to the contrary, the comment only shocks Camille more. Immediately remembering the Blazers, her eyes widen as the image of the stunning women that walk around covered in a sheer bodysuit of gold comes to her mind. Axl mediates on that image for a moment. Camille swallows the embarrassment and smiles sourly, taking a slam on her self-esteem.

"You're right..." she agrees, a little hurt by the fact that her body can't even compare to the well-sculpted women in this world. The god notices the conflict Camille has inside, but he can't find a way to talk to her without being arrogant and heartless. He can't let his guard down, not until he figures out what are the great gods planning for him. But after listening to Azzel plea for her, Axl finds himself considering changing his attitude for the first time. Although he can feel himself battling his decision. He can't admit that he feels the need to watch over Camille's dreams. Considering that Caligo, the God of Nightmares, serves the darkness, any move Axl makes will set a devastating outcome for Camille. He exhales with a hidden frustration. How can he break the news to someone that been tormented by the darkness? He can see how broken and stained she has been by consequence of someone's cruelty and evilness his trying to fight in his own way.

"It is frustrating..." Axl finds himself trying to suppress his arrogance. After all, Camille is an innocent soul looking for a place to fit in. Deep down, the god feels responsible for making Camille come to this world, which is the reason why he's now contemplating holding back his brute personality in front of her. "When all hope stumbled upon you, you still held on to the light. Why?" He finally speaks while measuring his condescending tone that takes Camille by surprise.

Deep down, she can see his struggle to find the right tone. Looking up at his stunning eyes, she freezes for a moment. Camille is taken back by the light no one can see because of the fear he imposes on his servants. His royal blue eyes look down at her with a glimpse of comfort she never felt before. "I don't know. I just knew that one day everything was supposed to get better." Camille finds her voice to answer him. Although she's aware of his effort, she's decided to fight her nerves. A thought that takes Axl by surprise. He sighs with a hint of frustration for not being able to stand up to the great god's tricks if he keeps looking at her. "If you're a real god, you'll understand why." Camille struggles to feel confident while her skin slightly blushes under the moonlight, giving her a beautiful glow that tempts him.

He looks up to the starry sky to avoid seeing her fight her reason to stay faithful and pure for a boy that she might never see again, someone she believed was her light of hope. His promises gave her the courage. "Perhaps it is better this way..." he murmurs as he reaches a handout. Camille's eyes widen as her beautiful waves fall over her shoulders, giving her immediate comfort. "It is better this way," he says to himself again.

"Thank you," Camille is the first human Axl has seen up close after many years alone. She's young and delicate, even though she finds herself lost in his unreachable perfection, but in her heart, she can see no other man but Adam. A boy that's been her most valuable company despite the bullying, the abuse, and the mistreatment. With the ability to see her life before she showed up in his kingdom, Axl knows everything she has suffered at the hands of people she trusted.

"Do not thank me just yet," he says as he turns his back to the moon. "I wonder..." Axl measures the extent of her will to stay in his world. Although he conflicts and affliction to go back to a cruel life and sacrifice her happiness and sanity for others, he is for him. "If I do tell you why you are here, will you ask me to send you back?" The question seems to be mostly to himself, but Camille can't ignore the slight touch of sadness in his tone. Deep down, Axl knows that her yarn to go back is, in a way, the same desire he once had; he still has, but not as unbearable as before. He understands the need to see someone she cherishes, but he also knows that the pain slowly turns into anger and maybe hatred with time. Axl snaps his finger as her towel transforms into a beautiful gown that highlights her violet eyes.

"Wow!" Camille forgets herself for a split second and twirls to enjoy the beautiful dress. Her eyes beam with excitement, although this is the second time it happens. The reaction is even greater when the magic comes from the hands of a god. Axl tries to hide his amusement closing his eyes. He takes a deep breath as he crosses his arms over his chest. He sits on the sofa.

"C-can you send me back?" Camille reacts to his questions, her eyes gazing deeply into his like only someone special has been allowed to. Like he's allowing her to be. Camille traps herself in his lonesome desire to find a way out of his own darkness. Camille is captivated by his unwavering gaze; something hides behind his inexpressive face; something deep in his heart stops him from being happy. Loneliness. She can sense it; she's been through it. Axl notices the compassionate light touching her eyes, which alerts him. Clearing his throat to compose himself, he becomes more interested in her ability to see the heart. "I mean, would you?" Camille corrects herself, but a sad smile spreads across her face.

Ironically, Camille ended up here while she ran away from the pain, from her truth. If Axl sends her back, will she be back in that life? Her mother and Jordan can have a peaceful life if she's not around, and except for Adam, she has nowhere to go. Again, her heart shudders with guilt. She can't rely on Adam forever. They're just kids trying to start a future. She can't take away the chance to be at ease and to let him find someone better. Adam is too important to force him to grow up and mature because she needs him. Camille lowers her face to cover her guilt. A lump tightens up in her throat, making her body tremble with sadness. Forcing the tears to stay back, Camille shuts her eyes as Axl observes her battle. "I am the god of this kingdom, Camille. But there are things I cannot control." He finally acknowledges who he is. An intense gleam in his crystal blue eyes hypnotizes her in an intimidating way, making her knees tremble, her heart skips a beat at the mention of her name.
