Breakaway
"Paige! Ally! Oh My God!" Camille exclaims with a heart full of twisted emotions to see Paige with her bright smile, her short bouncy curls, and emotional green eyes.
Next to her, Ally, the always quiet and composed Ally. Hiding her brown eyes under her reading glasses, a naturally shy smile, but a warm heart. They come forward to embrace Camille in a warm hug. Trying to ignore the awful feeling of being relieved by their interruption, Camille lets her friends wash away the bad taste that builds up in her stomach knowing that she can't be sweet to Adam.
"I can't believe is you!" Paige can't hide the shocking surprise and excitement to see her best friend back.
"I wanted to see you." Ally voice trembles, already with tears in her eyes, grinning with overjoyed, Camille hugs her tightly. Filling herself with warmth and calmness of someone pure.
"Guys..." Jordan interrupts the reunion, as he quietly leans on the doorframe, a serious expression crosses his face.
"Camille can't remember much of these past months..." he clarifies with a sad tone followed by a heavy sigh. Camille smiles at her brother who looks more confident than before.
Paige takes a step back to take a look at her friend, searching for the truth. Puzzled and like everyone else, curious. She remembers the chaos around Camille's mysterious disappearance and Adam's loss of sense after it. How Camille's mother had to take a step and finally speak up against Steve. Paige analyzes her friend and all the trauma she has kept in silent.
"The good thing is that you're back and safe," Ally comforts her, still holding Camille's hand she smiles with compassion.
With a gentle squeeze, Ally reassures Camille that she's fine and her memory will be back when she's ready. Camille needs her friends more than ever, to talk to, to be honest. Someone like Paige, that tells her the truth no matter how much it hurts. She needs her tough love to help her understand so much confusion eating her inside. Also, someone gentle and caring like Ally, the loyal and loving friend. Someone that won't judge her even if she's at fault.
Both girls notice the discomfort in Camille's eyes. Her violet gaze looking into the distance away from her window, deep in thoughts; her heart, and soul try to find out the mystery behind her memory loss. The emptiness that overwhelms her body even when she's surrounded by her loved ones.
"When did you came back?" Paige asks trying to make sense in the different aura behind her gaze. Camille smiles but it doesn't touch her eyes, her pale skin has a define glow that makes her friend curious and doubtful for a moment.
"I woke up here, today," Camille answers looking at her bed. That's all she can remember, opening her eyes in this room, in her bed, with her mother and Jordan. Nothing else, no memory of how she got there, where she has been before last night.
"Did you really forget?" Paige asks, her eyes narrowing reaching deeply for a clue.
After all, in her eyes, Camille looks better than before. Like someone who's been having a good life, while the rest were worried sick for her. Paige is known for being blunt and straight to the point. Just like Camille always expects, Paige doesn't hold sympathy, when she wants to know the truth. Camille lowers her eyes as Paige leans behind the door of her room.
"Looks like it," Camille answers ignoring her quizzical glare.
Ally sits on Camille's bed, taken back by the gorgeous gown hanging in her closet. The beautiful dress glitters when the light touches its delicate texture like it's been made of real diamonds. Long and elegant cut, unreal and unaffordable by someone who doesn't have a job or enough money to survive.
"Wow, where you get this from?" Ally asks delighted with the dress. She's drawn to the closet to touch divine gown designed for a princess.
Camille forces her brain to remember where she has been that required her to wear such an expensive and carefully detailed dress, but nothing. Her mind is blank from those memories. Only a big gap that covers three months of a time she feels important to move on.
"I don't know..." her eyes glued to the dress as she thinks deeply.
"Are those real diamonds?" Ally asks with more knowledge of expensive and real materials since she's the daughter of the owner of almost half of Primavera Town. The dress is white but with a light touch of a blue glow around it. Beautiful gemstones colored in crystal blue falling over the shoulders to the waist, like a cascade of frozen tears.
Paige notices the struggle in Camille's eyes trying to find an explanation but she can't. Remembering how sad Adam looked when he mentioned she was missing, Paige wants to make it easy for them both. She's been a witness of Adam's suffering because of her. Now that she's back, the suffering doesn't stop because Camille can't find an explanation to where she's been.
"Thinking too much, messes with your head, you know..." Paige says trying to make her friend feel better but also making her see that other people are suffering for her.
"You're trying to remember something by forgetting to live this moment," she tells her with a confrontational tone. Camille says nothing, which makes Paige angry.
"Today will become yesterday and this moment will never come back," her voice holds a hint of reproach to make her understand that she's back with the ones that care and love her. That she should enjoy the fact that she's back and that everyone around her is happy for it.
"You're here, with your mom, with your brother, with Adam, who's been going crazy. Desperately looking for you, to even accuse your father of abusing you. To even consider that he might have murdered you at some point..." Paige confesses as she and Ally remember the chaotic event with sadness and anger because, at some point, they both believed that she's been dead all this time.
"But, now you're back. So, just live the present with us..." Ally says with a little more tact than Paige.
Camille's heart breaks with anguish, to hear of Adam's desperation because of her. That she has never been capable of giving him some peace of mind and what's even worse, she doesn't feel the same anymore. The way he looks at her, the way he holds her is so endearing how can she doubt her feeling for him?
"I know..." Camille whispers with evident guilt.
The regret beats her down when he's close and she doesn't feel the nerves of being in love like she used too. The need to see him when he's not around. How could she have forgotten? Where has she been for almost three months that brought her to the point of even forgetting the honest love she felt for her boyfriend?
"How can I get it back?" she looks up to the night sky again, remembering the shooting star she had just seen. She forgot to make a wish, now that she has something to wish for.
Ally walks to the window and takes the old white curtain away to let the moon illuminate the room. Camille raises her violet eyes as a nostalgic feeling grows within her heart, pulling her closer to the window. Desertion and loneliness take over as she looks up to the bright orb, she can feel something deeply sad expanding from her core to her heart, shuddering her completely. Suddenly she just wants to cry. Cry her sadness, cry the feelings building up in her soul. Why did she wake up at all?
"Have you seen a moon so bright before?" Ally comments captivated to see the radiant light like never before.
A yearning feeling opens up in Camille's heart. A profound longing for something she can't remember, but Camille is sure she has seen a better moon somewhere before. The overwhelming feeling takes over her chest to the point of bringing tears to her eyes.
"Camille..." Paige whispers in alarm to see her at the point of breaking.
"I have..." Camille tells them, still gazing at the moon. Wiping the tears from her eyes, she takes a deep breath.
"It makes me sad... I don't get it myself. But I feel like, I don't belong here anymore." she opens up to her friends.
"I feel like I'm dreaming and I want to wake up. I feel like someone is waiting for me, or calling me somewhere... I want to wake up." Camille wonders with a trembling voice.
Ally and Paige share a concerned look as they realized that Camille may have gone through something they will never understand.
"Camille." Ally wraps Camille in an endearing hug.
"I don't know," Camille stutters trying to hold on to her sanity.
"I know, I should be happy to be back... but I opened my eyes today and I feel so incomplete, lost. I feel this deep sadness, emptiness and I can't understand why." Camille questions letting herself cry holding onto Ally whose eyes are already tearful, someone that always has the right words to say, she takes Camille's hand.
"Maybe you don't need to look for it. Think of it as a second chance. You will remember when God decides..." Ally's soothing voice takes over Camille's tormented brain. She turns to the bright moon again.
"God..." Camille whispers in a low voice.
Ally is right, Camille should be happy she has the opportunity to spend time with her family, with her best friends, that whatever her worries are, the love of her dear ones can erase anything. Only if she lets it.
"You're right." Camille wipes her tears and drags a smile out of her soul, as her friends do the same.
"Let's start again," she says with more confidence and determination to move on and forget what she has forgotten already.
