🔸Eternal Flame in the Dark Abyss🔸 - Part 2

Phoenix learns a thing or two from Hades

A week after their initial meeting, Hades and Phoenix were trying to get along with each other since they were two beyblades under one owner. Hades tried his best to train Phoenix in battling, teaching her that she shouldn't take the fight too seriously and that the fun was all that mattered.

However, judging by their current sparring session, it was safe to say that Phoenix wasn't the type to hurt a fly.

"Dead Gravity!" Hades shouted as he dashed around in a blur of purple, slowly closing in on his opponent.

Phoenix, caught in the middle of this attack, instead of retaliating, spread out her wings and flew out of the confines of her partner's dominion.

This caused Hades to stop his attack. He then walked to Phoenix and sighed.

"This is the third time you've decided to avoid my attacks," he said. "Something tells me that you're not much of a fighter."

Phoenix looked down to the ground, ashamed of herself. "Sorry, again. I rarely use my powers, especially for combat."

"Then how do you defend yourself from harm?"

"I fly away, of course." Phoenix laughed nervously. "After all, I was told that using my powers to hurt others is a bad thing."

"By your parents?"

There was a brief silence before Phoenix answered, "I...I don't remember..."

This peaked Hades' curiosity even more about Phoenix's background. "You don't remember who your parents are?" he asked.

"I know that I had a guardian of some kind; I know that they had taught me some things but...I don't remember who they were."

Out of the blue, Phoenix had tears forming in her eyes. "Why was I chosen? What is it within me that I was chosen? I couldn't even fight..."

Hades gave the avian spirit a sympathetic gaze. The fact that she didn't know how to defend herself due to her pacifist ideals worried him. What if she couldn't get away in time if she ever ran into trouble? The devils that roamed freely in the dark would surely see her as a perfect prey for their sick twisted pleasures.

Hades placed his hands on Phoenix's shoulders, startling her a bit. He looked deeply into her azure eyes and said, "Phoenix, I understand that hurting others is not a good thing, but there are some situations where you have to fight, especially since you're now a bey spirit."

Hades let go of Phoenix and took her to sit on a nearby rock. When Phoenix was seated, he sat beside her.

"Do you know the tale of The Four Noble Siblings?" Hades asked.

"They were the founders of this kingdom. Other than that, I don't know much." Phoenix said.

Hades continued his story. "Thousands of years ago, devils roamed the earth, causing chaos and destruction for both humans and spirits. The good side of our kind weren't able to fight against them due to their benevolent nature. War and bloodshed were just not their thing, so all they could do was watch as the evil side of our kind ravaged the land. That was until the arrival of the Four Noble Siblings - Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, Susanoo and Uzume. They taught our ancestors that all actions were driven by intentions and that righteous acts are driven by good intentions. These teachings were what helped our ancestors to win against the devils and seal most of them in Tartarus."

"Do you understand? Hurting others is only necessary when you and others are in danger. Look at a soldier for instance. Do you think they have harmed others?" Hades asked.

"Well, they fight in wars so...yes, they have." Phoenix answered.

"And if they've had their blades stained, why aren't they in Tartarus yet?"

"Because they only fight for what is right?"

"Precisely."

"But...bey battling isn't the same as war. What's the purpose of fighting in that?"

"Well... most see it as a sport that you would do for fun but it also doubles as a training ground to strengthen your abilities in case you need to face certain situations. It can also strengthen the bond that we have with our masters."

Hades then stood up. "I can't really explain this in depth, but trust me. You will understand eventually."

He summoned his scythe. "So, shall we have another round?"

🔸🔸🔸

It wasn't easy for Phoenix when it came to combat. Every time she wanted to cast her fiery feathers like daggers, her timid nature just wouldn't allow it. No matter how many times Hades swung his scythe, no matter how many times he had wounded her, all she could do was defend.

Until one day of training.

Hades was relentless, attacking the avian spirit from all corners. Phoenix only put up a flaming shield around her, hoping that the heat would drive Hades away. Unfortunately, Hades kept on slashing the shield over and over until it began to crack.

"Dead Impulse!" Hades cried out as he delivered a powerful energy using his scythe towards Phoenix.

When she saw the energy coming towards her, her first thoughts were: "I'm done for." That was until she heard Hades.

"Counter it, Phoenix!" he screamed.

Shattering these negative thoughts, Phoenix created a flaming dagger in her palm and threw it at the purple energy. The fire and the darkness met, with the darkness burning away and the flame shooting across the air towards Hades.

"Hades!" Phoenix cried out for her friend after realising what she did.

Hades was unfazed by this as he summoned a hexagon shaped shield, blocking the attack. After this, the underworld spirit walked towards the winged one.

Phoenix was scared at this. Was Hades angry at her for attacking him? She closed her eyes tightly, expecting to be yelled at, but was instead met with a pat on the head.

"You did your first attack. I'm really proud of you, Phoenix." she heard. She looked up to Hades and saw a warm smile on his face.

Phoenix didn't know how to react. She attacked Hades. He was supposed to be angry, right? Why was he smiling?

"Come on. No need to feel guilty. I'm fine, am I not?" Hades said. "Come, you look tired. How about a rest?"

To be honest, Phoenix wouldn't say that she's tired. Traumatised would be a bit accurate.
