Chapter 9: Lords of the Sun
Valt Aoi, Aiga Akaba, Drum Koryu, Hyuga and Hikaru Asahi as well as the bey spirits, Valkyrie, Achilles and Dragon were now standing in front of the royal throne of Aether where the ruler of the mystical land himself sat.
He presented himself as a light-skinned man in his 20s or 30s. His hair was a red orange color with yellow streaks tied into a long, loose ponytail placed onto his left shoulder. His eyes were emerald green. His face was mostly youthful, save for a little bit of facial hair on his chin. His attire consisted of a red undergarment topped with a fine red and gold robe as well as a blue pendant near the collar. On top of his head was a golden crown adorned with sapphires. One large gem rested on the very top of the crown, depicting the sun.
The bladers eyed the king in awe. Well, except for a certain red bamboo shoot who stared at the man in absolute shock.
'No way...It can't be!' he said in his head.
"H-Hyperion?" He uttered, absolutely blowing away the minds of his fellow bladers.
"HYPERION?!" the other bladers exclaimed. This was truly a shocking revelation, especially to Hikaru. His younger brother had the king of beyblades himself in his hand this entire time?!
"Was this really how you saw him in your dream, Hyuga?" Hikaru questioned his brother but Hyuga was too shocked to answer. Luckily, Hyperion answered for him.
He laughed and stood from his throne. "Indeed this was how I presented myself to Hyuga," he said. "Well, minus the fancy throne and crown. I bet you all didn't expe-" before he could finish his sentence, Hyuga launched himself at his bey spirit like a rocket and used his head to hit Hyperion in the stomach. The king fell to the floor causing his crown to fall from his head.
"Your Highness!" the Celestials, Brok and Finn, who were responsible for escorting the group to the throne room, reacted.
"Hey, young boy! What did we say about disrespecting the king?!" Brok scolded Hyuga, but the latter ignored him.
"WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME THAT YOU WERE A KING?!" Hyuga yelled at Hyperion, his face as red as a chili pepper.
Hyperion, pinned down by his blader's weight, flinched at Hyuga's yelling. After almost going deaf, he spoke, "Well, I thought it wasn't really important for you since all you care about is beyblading. If you want to blame anyone for not informing you about this, there they are." he pointed at his fellow bey spirits.
"Hey! What gives, King?!" Achilles yelled in protest.
"Yeah! You're the one who planned all of this! Why blame us?!" Dragon added. As for Valkyrie, she just sighed.
Hyperion laughed nervously at this because everything they said was true.
"N-Nevermind," he said. "Hyuga, could you please move out of the way? I can't rule my kingdom if I'm laying down forever."
"Oh,..." Hyuga, now calmed down a bit, moved himself away from his partner. "But seriously, I never knew that you were the king this entire time! I thought that you were some famous hero here!"
"Well, my father was the king before me and he had me during his reign. So, it would be logical that I am the king now." Hyperion said while adjusting his attire and crown.
Looking at this unfold, Hikaru began to ponder on his own partner, Helios.
'Wait, so...if Hyperion's the king, that would make Helios the prince since they're father and son. And since Helios is the prince, does that mean...' Hikaru then remembered what Finn said about the prince.
"The prince has...quite the temper, I must say. He doesn't like getting offended or wronged in anyway. The moment you do, he will surely make you leave the castle with burn marks."
'No way. Helios can't be like that. He looks like a nice guy! Or, maybe...it's all just a masquerade? No, Hikaru. Don't think like that! Helios always helped you and never tried to corrupt you. He's not bad.' the older Asahi thought to himself. His eyes turned back to Hyperion.
"Now, where were we?" the king asked, then turned to the other bladers. "Ah, yes! Welcome to Suria Castle, boys! I bet you all didn't expect this."
"No, we didn't!" Valt chuckled. "You surprised us real good there, Your Majesty."
"Oh, please, Valt. Call me Hyperion." the king smiled warmly. "Now then, would you like to have a little tour of the castle?"
"Yes, please!" the bladers all exclaimed excitedly.
"Good! Now let's get going, shall we?"
🔸🔶🔸
Valt and his companions were guided by Hyperion through his massive residence. Before the tour, the sun spirit had warned the bladers that they will be going through massive hallways, rooms and lots, and lots of stairs. But our group of bladers were an adventurous bunch so they accepted the challenge.
During the journey, the group encountered Celestial guards and castle maidens, all bowing before Hyperion's presence. Looking at this, Hyuga pondered at the thought of him and Hyperion overpowering everyone during the Legends Festival, since he was the king. Sure, it would be fun for him, but he figured that winning every time would just be boring.
With every step they took within the castle, the boys felt like going through a maze with secrets waiting to be discovered in every corner. Flights of stairs twisted and turned into long, beautiful hallways. In their minds, Valt and his friends questioned how the guards and maidens managed to navigate their way through this labyrinth of a castle.
The group were now walking through one of the many hallways. As they walked, they saw many intricate stained glass windows, each depicting important figures and events in Aether's history.
"Woah, who's that?" Drum asked pointing at one of the stained glass windows.
"That's Queen Freya, one of the many rulers before me." Hyperion said.
"She's also my mother." Valkyrie chimed in but then her eyes turned a little sorrowful. "Sadly, she's...no longer with us."
"Oh, I'm...sorry to hear that..." Valt spoke. "It must've been hard when you lost her."
"It's okay. It was hard at first when she died, but me and my sisters learned to move on."
Then they passed another window. This one depicted a figure that was similar to Hyperion and Helios but was almost white instead of red or blue.
"Woah! He kinda looks like you." Aiga stated to Hyperion.
"That is Uranus," Hyperion said. "My father and the king before me."
"Uranus? Wasn't that Lane's first beyblade before he got Lucifer?" Valt questioned.
"Wait, Lane had a beyblade before Lucifer?" Hyuga questioned the No.1 blader.
"Yeah. I think it's called First Uranus. Shu told me that when he first battled Free, Lane was using Uranus."
"Indeed." Hyperion confirmed. "My father became the beyblade of Lane Valhalla. When he first delivered the news to us that he was going to have a master, we were ecstatic and proud. But later, I learned that Lane was putting my father into misuse, using him to only fuel his Flare. Then, he abandoned him and released Lucifer, an archenemy of my family."
"Archenemy?" Hikaru questioned.
"My family had quite the history with Lucifer, way before we became beyblades. It's a long story, really. But in the end, we forgave him. Well, I forgave him actually. Helios still holds a grudge on him and Lane."
The last statement shocked Hikaru. Maybe what the giant Celestial said about Helios was true. But then again, you can't really blame Helios for being mad at the ones who broke him and his father.
The group encountered a doorway that lead into a large room filled with books. A magnificent fountain marked the center of this room. Above the fountain was a glass dome.
"This is the castle library." the sun king gestured at the room.
"This place looks Super Z nice!" Aiga said.
"Yeah! I seriously feel like I wanna stay here all day reading books!" Drum added.
"Feel free to explore for a bit." said Hyperion. "I need to go find Helios for a second. He can't miss the fact that his blader came to visit." With that, the king left the library.
And so the bladers wandered about the library. Valkyrie, Achilles and Dragon accompanied them so that they don't get lost. Through the aisles, they saw many books with topics like classic fairytales, magic, history and alchemy among many others.
While looking through one of these aisles, Aiga happened to stumble across a book that made him chuckle.
"What's so funny Aiga?" Valt asked.
The red blader chuckled more. "Check this book out." he said as he showed the book to his friends.
The book was entitled, 'Human Nature for Dummies'.
At this, the others began to snicker as well. They didn't expect that a place with a mostly medieval culture would have a book with such a title. Then, suddenly...
"It's an odd title, isn't it?" a female voice said and giggled.
The group stopped laughing and turned to where the voice came from. To their left, they saw a young woman with light skin. She wore a long dress colored in lilac, lavender, light blue and white with an orange pendant. Her hair was pale lavender with light orange and white streaks, as if it was decorated with the clouds and rays of dawn. Her eyes were yellowish orange like the morning sun.
"Hello there!" she greeted with a cheerful look.
"Oh, Princess Eos!" Valkyrie responded.
"Hi, Brynhildr! What brings you here? You rarely come to visit."
"Well, me and my friends brought our bladers here to visit the castle." Valkyrie gestured to the boys.
"Oh, hello!" Eos said. "I'm Eos, daughter of Hyperion. Nice to meet you!"
"Wait, Hyperion has a daughter too?!" Drum said in disbelief.
"Yeah! I thought he only had Helios." Aiga added.
Eos laughed at this. "Oh, no, no. Father not only had my brother, but also me and my big sister, Selene as well!"
"Speaking of father and brother, aren't you two their bladers?" she asked the Asahi brothers.
"Yeah! I'm Hyuga Asahi!" Hyuga introduced himself proudly.
"And I'm Hikaru Asahi!" Hikaru said in the same manner.
"Ah, so you're brothers! How lovely! I think I can tell which one of you own father and brother based on your colors." Eos then reached her hands out towards the brothers' sun marks.
"You even have little sun marks on your cheeks! That's so adorable!" the princess proceeded to pinch the brothers' cheeks, overwhelmed by their cuteness.
The rest of the group sweat-dropped at this, minus Aiga and Drum who were laughing their socks off. But deep inside, they could all agree...
Hikaru and Hyuga are such wholesome siblings!
The brothers struggled to break free from the mighty grip of Eos's fingers, until...
"Sister, stop what you're doing. I don't appreciate you doing that to my blader." a stern male voice rang out. This made Eos release the brothers' cheeks.
They all turned around and saw Hyperion alongside another male whose arms were crossed. He appeared to be a younger version of Hyperion except that his hair was blue with yellow streaks, styled similar to Hyperion's but with the ponytail slumped onto his right shoulder. His eyes were a piercing turquoise, more turquoise than Aiga's. He wore a blue version of Hyperion's undergarment with a green pendant.
"Oh, come on Helios," Eos pouted. "You're being too protective."
"I am his bey spirit, Eos. I have the right to be protective." Helios said.
"Yes, you have the right but you don't have to act like a father meeting your daughter's lover or something!" Eos argued back.
"Now, now you two. We have some young visitors here with us. We don't want to scare them away with an argument now, do we?" Hyperion intervened.
The siblings' attention was drawn to their father. "Forgive us, father." They apologised.
At this, Hyperion smiled at his children warmly. Suddenly, the sound of a ringing bell could be heard. They all turned around to the door to see a blonde man in a butler outfit. In his hand was a small bell.
"Your Highness, dinner is ready." He said while bowing.
"Eh? Already? My, how time flies so fast." Hyperion mused. "Tell them to prepare eight more servings and chairs, will you? We have some guests."
"Y-Yes, Your Highness." The spirit bowed and exited the room.
"Alright, let's get down for a meal, shall we? That way, you all can get to know us better." The king said to the boys.
"Alright!" the boys said in unison. The group followed Hyperion to the castle's dining room.
🔸🔶🔸
"EH?!" The voices of Aiga, Drum and the Asahi brothers exclaimed. They were all seated in the dining room of Suria Castle.
"What's wrong? You don't like the food? You haven't even tasted it yet." Hyperion responded to the four boys' reaction.
"There's nothing wrong with the food or anything. It's just..." Aiga said. "Isn't this okonomiyaki?"
Hyperion looked down to his plate and then the other's plates. They were indeed eating okonomiyaki.
"Yes, so what?"
"How did you-" Hyuga was about to ask but his beyblade cut him off.
"How did I know about this food? Well, ever since that little trip to Wyvern's blader's house, I can't stop thinking about what he served you with. So, I researched the recipe and, with the help of an old friend, taught the cooks how to make it."
Helios let out a chuckle at this. "And this has been our dinner ever since."
"By the way, Prince, where were you when the kids came?" Achilles asked Helios.
"Yeah, shouldn't you be welcoming Hikaru with your father?" Valkyrie added.
Instead of Helios, it was Eos who answered. "Oh, you know big brother. He's either mixing away at those chemicals in the alchemy room or in the gardens hanging out with-" before she could finish, Helios covered his sister's mouth.
"Don't tell them that!" Helios blurted out, while also...blushing a bit(?) "Also, she's right. I was in the alchemy room."
"Wow. To the point you forgot that your blader came to visit?" Dragon asked.
"Not that I forgot. Hobbies can be distracting at times, you know?" Helios released his sister's mouth before his eyes turned to Hikaru. "Hikaru, I'm sorry that...I wasn't there to greet you and your friends."
"I-It's okay," Hikaru forgave. "Besides, you were busy."
"Busy getting distracted by a hobby? That's just selfish of me."
"Well...it happens to me and Hyuga when we're busy beyblading. When you're too into something, you tend to forget about what's happening around you. It's natural."
"I-I guess you're right."
'He doesn't seem like what the guards told us about him. I guess that's a good thing.' Hikaru thought.
They continued to eat their meal peacefully. Until, Valt noticed something off. Between where Helios and Eos were sitting, there was an unseated chair.
"Umm...Hyperion, who's chair is that?" The blunette asked.
"Huh? Oh, that's supposed to be where Selene would be sitting." Hyperion said. "Now that you've mentioned that; Helios, Eos, where is your sister?"
"We don't know. She's almost never late for a meal." Eos answered.
"She probably has some extra training with Shizuka. That woman's a hardy blader after all. It would make sense for her to practice her skills a bit more." Helios said. His father, though a little sceptical, seemed to agree with his son's claim.
"Your sister's a beyblade too?" Hyuga asked.
"Uh-huh! Crescent Selene is what her blader calls her." Eos said gleefully. "I'm a beyblade too. Illusion Eos is the name!"
"Woah, your whole family are beys?! That's Super Z awesome!" Aiga said amazed.
"It'll be cool if we can meet your bladers!" said Valt.
Hyperion chuckled and said, "If fate allows it, maybe you can meet them and get the opportunity to battle them."
The bladers, especially Hikaru and Hyuga, had never felt so much excitement and amazement in their lives. Not only did they discover that the beyblades of who were once two rookie bladers the rulers of their kind, but they also learned that there were more strong bladers out there that could possibly offer a good challenge, especially if they're female. You don't see strong female bladers often.
Dinner continued normally for the bladers and bey spirits. Valt treated everyone with the apple pies that he and his friends bought from the old she-gnome while they were in the city. It was a good time for them. After finishing their meal, the boys were lead to their bedrooms where they would be staying for the night. Valt and Aiga shared one room while Drum and the Asahi brothers shared another. They decided to rest in their rooms for a bit after a long time of travelling to the castle. As they rested, unbeknownst to them, their bey spirits had a little talk.
"Attacked?!" Hyperion, Helios and Eos exclaimed.
"Yes. We were on our way to The Heart when out of nowhere, a wolf devil named Fenrir attacked us!" Achilles explained.
"We nearly didn't survive," Dragon added. "Fortunately, I was able to kill him through me and Drum's bond."
"But you've killed him, right? What's more to worry about?" Helios questioned.
"Well, you see...that devil was working for someone. Another devil who's above him." Valkyrie said . "He said that his 'mistress' as he called his leader, has some 'surprises' for this kingdom."
"Knowing devils, that 'surprise' surely isn't going to be a welcoming one." Eos stated.
"Not only that. Fenrir specifically said that he was sent to kill our bladers."
The royal family gasped at this.
"How dare they!" Helios stated angrily, small blue flames bursting out of his form.
"Calm down, Prince. You're not the only one. We're all worried about our bladers here." Achilles said.
"So, what are we going to do about this?" Valkyrie asked Hyperion.
Hyperion pondered for a moment before he said, "I shall hold a meeting with the other houses and prominent bey spirits to discuss this matter. We can't risk our bladers getting hurt or worse."
All seemed to agree with the king's decision. After a few more discussions, the bey spirits went to their rooms to rest for the night.
"Father," Helios said to Hyperion in a worried tone. "I'm starting to doubt my claims about Selene. Is she really going to be alright?"
"I'm sure your sister will be alright. She's a strong girl after all. She'll be able to fight if anything happens." Hyperion assured his son.
Helios was still doubtful but accepted his father's words. "If you say so. Good night, father."
"You too, son." the father and son walked separate paths to their bedrooms, leaving a silent moonlit hallway behind.
