Chapter 5: The Hero of Red - Part 1

It has been hours since the five young legends and the female warrior left the forest to continue their journey to the heart of Aether. During the long walk and a few breaks, the boys listen to Valkyrie as she explained about how the kingdom came to be. They learnt that thousands of years ago, a powerful female spirit and her siblings led an army against the evil spirits, which they called 'devils', in order to save humans. Due to the ungrateful nature of past humans however, they were forced to search for a new land where humans can't reach them. Thus, Aether was born and the spirit along with her siblings became its first rulers.

To the bladers, it was a fascinating yet sad tale. All they wanted was peace but they, humans, turned them away. The five of them almost felt guilty. They wondered if this was the reason they hid in metal tops, to get closer to humanity.

Valt looked up to the Aetherian sky. The sun was getting closer to the edges of the forest, ready to set and welcome the night. Birds can be seen flying and chirping in this scenery.

"Valkyrie, how much longer are we gonna walk? I'm getting tired~" Hyuga whined, his eyelids growing heavy.

"Just a few more steps and we'll arrive at his place." Valkyrie responded.

"'His'? Who's 'his'?" asked Hikaru.

"You'll know when we meet him."

They walked for another five minutes until they saw a narrow dirt path that was branching off of the greater path into the forest.

"It's this way!" Said Valkyrie as she gestured to the boys to come with her. At first, they hesitated but they later followed her, knowing that they are in the good hands of the spirit.

The path was a bit long so they took the time to admire their surroundings. Groves of tall trees lined the sides of the path with the slowly fading sunlight piercing through the leaves. It reminded Valt of the forest back in Spain where he would often visit Free De La Hoya and engage in friendly battles with him. It was, nostalgic in a way.

They later reached the end of the path. They were greeted with...

lines of fig trees?

"Wait, why're there fig trees here?" Drum questioned, dumbfounded.

Aiga walked around to examine the land. "Well, judging by how they're planted, I think this is an orchard." He said. He then let out a hand to one of the unripe figs. When his hand touched the fruit...

"DON'T TOUCH THEM!!!" A male voice suddenly boomed out of nowhere.

Aiga immediately turned to his back to see a blur of white zooming straight towards him at full speed. The red blader quickly moved out of the way just in time to see the figure hit the tree by the head causing the fruits to break apart from their stems. Ouch.

The others remained motionless out of shock for a few seconds. "Ow, my head..." they heard the figure speak. Valkyrie just sighed.

"You just had to make an entrance like that, did you?" she asked the figure.

"Entrance?! All I know is that your trespassi-" the mysterious male said while rubbing his head but abruptly stopped when he faced Valkyrie. The bladers were able to get a better look at the male. He appeared to be a young adult. He was wearing a white cloak-like garment and had tan skin. His hair was tied into a ponytail that was longer than Aiga's and was dark crimson in color. Finally, his irises were green just like Valkyrie's. Out of the six, it seemed that only Valkyrie and Aiga knew who this man was.

"N-No way. A-Achilles?" Aiga stuttered.

"ACHILLES?!" the other boys exclaimed.

"Wait, Aiga? Is that you?" Achilles asked, facing the maroon-haired boy. He looked at him for a second before rushing towards his blader and pulled him into an oxygen-depriving hug.

"YOU CAME! YOU ACTUALLY CAME!" the spirit burst out joyously while laughing. He was so happy that he didn't realize that Aiga's face was turning blue.

"C-Can't...b-breathe...." Aiga struggled to speak. At this, Achilles quickly let his blader go, the latter breathing heavily afterwards.

"Sorry. I'm just so excited!" the red spirit said, flashing a bright smile. "Also, sorry that I almost killed you just know. Hehe."

The others remained silent until Drum broke it. "Woah! Are you that protective of your trees?"

"Technically these are my dad's trees, but yes. Figs are my second favourite thing in the world!" Achilles said.

"What's the first?"

Before the hero could respond, Valkyrie beat him to it.

"Battles. Battles are his number one thing in the world." she said.

"Oi! I was gonna answer that!" Achilles yelled at Valkyrie.

"I was just helping that little mouth of yours. It needs some rest to, y' know?"

"It can still handle it!"

"You literally banged your head a few moments just now! It probably felt that too."

"No it didn- Ow, it still hurts!" Achilles couldn't continue his argument due to the pain still throbbing on his head.

"See what I mean?" Valkyrie said with a smirk.

Feeling defeated, the red male said, "Fine, you win." He then looked at the bladers. "Oh, almost forgot that you guys are here! Come, follow me!" He said as he began to walk to a specific direction.

"To where?" Hikaru asked.

"To my house, silly! What, you wanna spend the night out here where all the scary things come out?"

"N-No."

"Good to hear."

"Haha! Hikaru's scared of the dark~" Hyuga teased his brother in a sing-song tone.

"No I'm not!" Hikaru retaliated.

"All right you two, calm down," Valt said, preventing the brothers from arguing any further.

They all followed Achilles's steps through the seemingly endless fig orchard. During the walk, Achilles managed to show a little trick he had up his sleeves.

"Hey, wanna see something cool?" He called out to the boys. He approached an unripe fig and touched it gently. His fingers and the fig began to glow gold. The boys watched in amazement as the unripe green fig slowly turned into its rich, ripe purple counterpart.

"No way! You can do magic!?" Aiga said with stars in his eyes.

"A bit. All spirits have some knowledge of magic. I mean, how do you think I managed to heal your arm during that cruise ship battle?"

All of them were really astonished by the red spirit's ability except for Valkyrie who only had a blank face as if totally unamused at what he just did. Achilles noticed this and teased her. "What's the matter, Valkyrie? You jealous that I have more skill in magic than you?"

Valkyrie grumbled at this. "Why you?! Watch me!" she yelled as she marched towards another unripe fig. She held it in her palm and concentrated,

and concentrated,

and concentrated,

and concentrated,

and concentrated.

But the fig did not change color. Valkyrie won't give up however. She gripped the fruit so hard, that it exploded in her hand. The five bladers sweat-dropped at this while Achilles was trying his best to hold his laughter. Valkyrie sighed in defeat.

"Fine, you win this time. Let's just go already." she said and walked to the right before...

"Um, that's the wrong way." said the red spirit.

The blue spirit grumbled more and marched to the opposite side. Valkyrie really thought it was all over. That is until...

"HAHAHA! LET'S GO BEFORE SHE FINDS OUT!" she heard.

"ACHILLEEESS!!!" she screamed at the mischievous hero, who was somehow carrying all five young humans in his hands while running in the actual direction to his house. Valkyrie chased him furiously with veins popping out of her forehead.

While all of this was happening, the five bladers had a 'What in the world is happening right now?' expression on their faces as the two spirits chased each other under the evening sky.
