31| THE MAP'S COMPLETE + A CONFESSION

[ Chapter Thirty-One ]

Nara tried to cheer her best friend up, leading her up to her room but Adelina refused to change or clean up. Adelina was stressed and didn't know what to do. They'd blown up the First Order's main base, but still felt like they hadn't accomplished anything.

The map to Luke Skywalker was still incomplete, and they had no idea what to do next. The Resistance always had hope, but they always did, even when everything seemed about to fall apart.

Though, they weren't the ones who had just lost their father. Adelina felt like her world was going to fall apart. She hadn't seen her father in years. Han had left his family when his son turned against his own uncle. But he hadn't just abandoned Ben to his fate, he'd also abandoned Adelina. And even though Adelina had forgiven her father, she'd never told him.

After almost two hours of moping around her room while Nara attempted to get her friend to take a shower, Adelina finally agreed.

While she didn't feel better after her shower, she was able to think more coherently and finally began to think of the last thing her father had personally said to her. She knew her father was mainly joking when he told her to tell Poe that she liked him, but she also knew that he was right. However, Adelina had no idea how she felt or what to say.

"Nara." Adelina broke the silence.

"She speaks." Nara joked.

"Haha" Adelina mocked her and pushed a piece of hair behind her ear, "You want to know what the last words that I got to hear from my father, were?"

Nara's eyes widened, "Um. I don't know. That seems fairly private."

"It wasn't like that, Nar. I didn't know he was going to die. We were just going to separate for a little bit." Adelina sighed, pacing in front of Nara who was sitting cross-legged on Adelina's bed.

Nara nodded as if to tell Adelina to continue.

"He said something about telling Poe Dameron that I like him. I mean, he overheard our conversation over comns I guess but I didn't say anything like that." Adelina said, in a stressed voice, "How am I supposed to tell him how I feel? I don't even know how I feel. I mean, I've spent most of my life hating him and I spend one freaking mission with him and now my heart is betraying me."

Nara stared at Adelina, "You're blind. I'm sorry, you're my best friend, and I just feel like it's my duty as your friend to tell you when you're being an idiot. You've liked him for awhile now, you just used your feelings of dislike for when he betrayed you to cover that up."

Adelina glared at her best friend, "You're supposed to be helping me."

Nara scoffed, "I am helping you." She grabbed Adelina's hands and yanked her down to sit beside her, "I love you, Lina. But you really are being an idiot. Just tell him. I already told you that he feels the same way. You can see it in the way he looks at you. And if I'm wrong, then no harm done."

Adelina gasped, "A lot of harm done. My heart and my pride will be wounded."

Nara laughed at her friend, "See. No harm done."

Adelina pushed her friend's arm mockingly but the two girls soon dissolved into giggles.

After Adelina finally gains enough courage to go back to the command center, she notices that her mom is in there alone and Poe and Rey are nowhere to be seen. Nara and Adelina peer around the empty center before entering and talking to Leia.

"Hey mom." Adelina approaches her, slowly.

Leia lifts her head and smiles at her daughter, "Are you okay?"

"I was going to ask you the same question." Adelina admitted and sighed, "So, any new leads, on Luke?"

Leia shook her head but then C3PO followed by BB-8, and CeCe came into the command center. Nara and Adelina swiveled their heads towards the droids, in confusion.

CeCe made a beeline for Adelina and Adelina grinned at the droid, "What's going on?"

CeCe beeped in excitement and Adelina looked at her mom and Nara in confusion, "R2? CeCe, R2 hasn't spoken in years."

C3PO interrupted her, "General? Excuse me, General?"

Leia looked at the droids for the first time since they entered the room.

"R2-D2 might contain some much needed good news." C3PO announced.

"Tell me." Leia said and then asked the others to come into the room.

Rey and Poe appeared, along with some other important officers. Rey went over to stand at the side, while Poe walked over to Adelina.

Adelina took in a breath before whispering to him, "I need to talk to you, after this."

Poe looked at her questioningly but nodded as Adelina cautiously grabbed his hand. Poe squeezed her hand before watching as R2 projected a large map.

Adelina's eyes widened and she watched as BB-8 rolled forward and looked before rolling back towards Poe. Poe let go of Adelina to kneel down and nodded as BB-8 beeped urgently at him.

"Yeah. All right buddy. Hold on." Poe removes the data device from a computer before inserting it back into BB-8 who rolls back to the map that R2 has projected and fits his piece in.

"The map. It is complete." C3PO gasps along with everyone else in the room.

"Luke" Leia exclaims happily.

Adelina throws her arms around Poe and Nara, squeezing them both in a hug, "I can't believe it."

Nara laughs with excitement while Poe just smiles and hugs both girls. Adelina then steps back and looks at her mom before asking, "What do we do now?"

"We're going to go get Luke." Leia told her.

Adelina sat beside Finn who was being medically treated and hadn't woken up yet. Rey came over to join her after she had spoken with Leia.

"I'm going to go with Chewie in the Falcon to find Luke." Rey told her after a couple of minutes, sitting in silence.

Adelina looked over at her in shock, "Are you sure about this? I can come with you. He is my uncle, after all."

"I need answers." Rey told her, "And I might get them there."

"But what if something happens to you? No one's seen or heard from Luke in years." Adelina asked her, "I just met you and I don't think I'm ready to lose you yet."

Rey smiled softly at Adelina, "And I you, but I feel like I have to go."

Adelina nodded, "You sure I can't convince you to come with you?"

Rey laughed, "I would but I'm not sure if your mom will let you out of her sight ever again."

Adelina laughed with her, "You're probably right."

The two girls stopped laughing as they stared at Finn. Rey looked at Adelina before speaking, "Take care of him, will you?"

"Of course." Adelina nodded, "He'll be okay. I have faith."

Rey nodded, "Thank you. I'll see you outside, okay?"

Adelina stood up, realizing her friend wanted to be alone, "Don't leave without saying goodbye."

"Never." Rey smiled at her as Adelina left the room.

After Adelina left, she looked around to try and find Poe. Adelina didn't want to talk to him about feelings but she decided to take her dad's and her best friend's advice.

Poe was standing in an alcove talking to Jessika Pava. Adelina cleared her throat and tilted her head at them, "I'm sorry Jess. Can I talk to Dameron for a minute?"

Jessika looked at Adelina suspiciously as Adelina fidgeted in place, but she nodded and left the two alone.

Poe crossed his arms over his chest and stared at Adelina, "So, you wanted to talk? I'm surprised considering you've barely said a word to me since you've returned."

Adelina glared at Poe, "My dad died, Dameron, on a mission that we shouldn't have even been on."

Poe sighed, "I'm very sorry, darling. But you didn't have to go on that mission."

"Rey would have been lost, if I didn't. And you wouldn't have gotten through." Adelina glared at him as Poe leaned against the wall.

"Okay, I shouldn't have said that, I'm sorry." Poe sighed, "What did you want to talk about as I'm sure it wasn't that."

Adelina took in a deep breath and Poe stared at her, "Well, if it's going to be this complicated, maybe I should get a drink."

Adelina shot him a glare, "Shut up." She yanked on her braid, "This is hard. Okay, um. So, the last thing my dad told me was to tell you something. And I really didn't want to because I don't even know what to say, but Nara convinced me, as always."

Poe gave her a confused look but was silent as Adelina spoke. Adelina expected him to interrupt her with some quip but he didn't, so she went on.

"Basically, what I'm trying to say is I think I like you. And I know this is crazy because all we do is fight, but at some point, something changed and now I'm confused." At this, Poe's eyes widened but Adelina held up her hand, "You don't have to say anything, Dameron. I could just be seeing things that aren't really there, but I really hope you say you do too."

For a full minute, Poe just stared at Adelina in shock. Partly because he couldn't believe what he was hearing, and partly because he didn't know what to say. Of course, Poe liked Adelina, in fact, he'd liked her for a long time, but he'd always thought that she didn't like him that way. She sure expressed her dislike rather often.

Adelina was starting to get antsy as she watched Poe study her. His expression made it seem like he didn't feel the same way and she was starting to give up. Her hopeful smile dropped from her face as she looked down at her hands.

"What are you doing, darling?" Poe asked, as Adelina made to leave.

"Leaving so I don't further wound my pride." Adelina gave him a small smile.

Poe grabbed her hand and pulled her back, "But, I didn't get to answer yet."

Adelina sucked in a breath as she looked up at Poe.

"It shouldn't surprise you to say that I like you too." Poe smiled at her, fingering a chain underneath his jacket.

Adelina grinned at him, "Honestly, I am surprised."

Poe laughed, "I thought you would have figured that out yourself, but then again you haven't noticed for years."

"Years?" Adelina laughed, "We're such idiots."

Poe laughed and pulled her to him, "Well, at least now we know."

Adelina tilted her face up but right as she did, Jessika came back. Poe dropped his hands from Adelina's waist and glared at the other pilot, "What do you want Jessika?"

Jessika turned red, "I'm sorry but they're getting ready to go."

Adelina's eyes widened and she broke free from Poe to run outside, where sure enough, the Millenium Falcon was being fueled up for its long journey. Rey stands outside it looking around for Adelina and when Adelina appears, she runs over and throws her arms around her.

"I was beginning to think that I'd have to leave without saying goodbye." Rey said, burying her head in her friend's neck.

Adelina laughed, squeezing her friend tightly, "You couldn't. You promised, remember?"

"I remember. But I'm not sure if Chewie made that promise." Rey said.

Adelina pulled back and grabbed her friend's hands, "Come back. With or without Luke, Rey. Please. I need you."

Rey smiled at Adelina, "And I need you. I promise, I'll come back."

"You better." Adelina said, wiping a tear from her eye before stepping away from Rey, "Now go, before Chewie does leave without you."

Rey laughed and looked to the side to see Leia approach them. She smiled at Rey and Rey smiled back before turning towards the Falcon.

"Rey." Leia called out to her and Rey turned around confused, "May the Force be with you."

Rey smiles gratefully at Leia before she boards the Falcon. Poe walks towards Adelina and stands next to her, causing Adelina's breath to hitch.

When everyone cheers as the Falcon rises into the sky, Poe whispers, "Screw it," and pulls Adelina in before kissing her lightly on the lips, giving her the ability to pull away.

Adelina is frozen for a minute before she wraps her hands around his neck and kisses him back, before pulling away and smiling softly at him.

Leia turns to look at the two and laughs, "I thought that would never happen."

Adelina's smile drops and she pushes his shoulder, "You had to do that in front of all these people?"

Poe grins cockily at her, "Don't you think it was overdue, darling?"

Adelina rolls her eyes at him but lets him wrap his arm around her waist as they and the rest of the crowd watch the Millenium Falcon disappear from sight.

Hey guys! AHHH! Part One is complete! I am so happy with this story so far and am enjoying writing it! I might take a brief break from publishing chapters so I can prewrite some, but we'll see. 

What did you guys think? My babies finally confessed their feelings!! They're so adorable. Do you like them together? Get ready for cute moments and tons more arguing cause let's be honest, they're still going to do that. What about Adelina's moments with Rey?
