19| HURTLING BACK TO JAKKU

[ Chapter Nineteen ]

The stormtrooper, who Adelina had yet to know the name of, led both her and Poe out of the elevator. Both Adelina and Poe had the good sense to be quiet though they still shot daggers at each other with their eyes. Neither of them wanted to blow their chance of escape but neither of them were able to get over their fight in the elevator.

Poe Dameron had been following General Leia's instructions by keeping everything about Adelina's brother and the first order from her, but he really hadn't expected it to blow up in his face like this. Poe wanted to stay in Leia's good graces and hadn't expected Adelina to hate him even more than she already seemed to when she found out he had also been hiding things from her. Poe never wanted to hurt Adelina. Sure, the two of them had clashed for a long time, but Poe really did care about Adelina, even if he didn't show it.

Adelina Solo was furious with her mother for keeping such big things from her and furious at Poe Dameron for just going along with it. She wasn't sure she would be able to forgive him soon and that hurt her more than she would ever admit.

As she was led through the ship next to Poe, she tried to keep her eyes down but she found herself looking around more than she wanted to. Her first time off of the planet in years and she ended up on a First Order ship which was just her luck. If she could ignore her throbbing head and neck, it was almost thrilling.

"Okay. Stay calm. Stay calm." The stormtrooper repeated.

Poe glared at Adelina, "I am calm. Maybe you should warn Adelina here."

"Shut up Dameron." Adelina grumbled back at him.

"I was actually talking to myself." The stormtrooper replied, "But if you two don't stop it, then we'll have a lot more to stress about."

"He started it." Adelina spat out.

"What are you twelve?" Poe responded.

"Shut up." The stormtrooper told them causing both of them to snap their mouths closed as they made their way to the TIE fighters.

"Okay. This way." He pushed the two in the direction of one of the fighters.

The three of them slid into the cockpit, Poe, shrugging off his jacket with excitement as Adelina got in the other pilot seat.

"I've always wanted to fly one of these things." Poe exclaimed excitedly.

"Oh well lucky you." Adelina said sarcastically.

"We could always leave you with your brother." Poe glared at her.

"You did not just say that." Adelina growled.

"Stop it." The stormtrooper said.

"Can you shoot?" Poe asked him.

"Blasters I can." He responded.

"Okay. Same principal. Use the toggle on the left to switch between missiles, cannons and mag pulsers. The side on the right to aim and the triggers to fire." Poe instructed.

"This is very complicated." He responded.

"I mean. I'm right here you know." Adelina grumbled.

"This fighter requires two pilots, Solo. So unless you want us to immediately die, then you're flying." Poe responded.

"Hmm wonderful. And here I thought you were hoping I would die." Adelina said back.

"Don't ever say that again." Poe turned in his seat to look at her, "I need you. You hear me?"

"Well, I don't need you." Adelina responded before pushing several buttons, "But thank you."

"Omigod. You seriously need to stop thinking I hate you." Poe said back.

"I mean, you haven't given me much else to think about, Dameron. You're always trying to prove your better than me." Adelina said back.

"Can you not do this right now?" The stormtrooper responded.

"I wish we didn't have to." Adelina said sarcastically.

"He's right. We really don't have time for this." Poe responded.

"Maybe you should have thought about that before you kept the fact that my brother is the one known as Kylo Ren." Adelina spat.

"We need to go." The stormtrooper said.

"Okay. Solo, you know what to do." Poe instructed her.

"Fine." Adelina complied.

The TIE fighter rose up in the air but was caught by the cable.

"Um. What do we do?" The stormtrooper asked.

"It's okay. I got this." Both Adelina and Poe said at the same time.

Both of them started pressing buttons until stormtroopers in the main ship started firing at them.

"Bloody hell." Adelina cursed, "Hey. Can you do something about them?"

The stormtrooper nodded and began firing at the stormtroopers on the ship as well as the control center.

"Okay. Adelina now." Poe instructed her and the TIE fighter came loose from the cable, shooting out of the ship.

"Wow. This ship really moves." Poe exclaimed.

"They're shooting at us. We need to take out these cannons or we're not going to make it very far." Adelina said back.

"I'm going to get us in position. Just stay sharp. Both of you." Poe instructed.

"I thought I was supposed to be helping to fly this thing." Adelina answered.

"You are. I'll tell you what to do, Solo. Neither of us have ever flown this thing and I for one know I've had more experience than you." Poe told her.

"Wow. Cocky, much?" Adelina shot back but was almost smiling.

"Okay. Up ahead. I got us a clean shot. Now." Poe told the two of them.

"Got it." Adelina and the stormtrooper said. Both of them fired their guns at the cannons, effectively blowing them up.

"Yes!" Adelina cheered and looked at Poe, smiling happily.

"Did you see that?" The stormtrooper yelled.

"I saw it!" Poe smiled at the two of them and locked eyes with Adelina who bit her lip.

Adelina and Poe stared at each other for a few seconds before she cleared her throat and pushed a strand of hair behind her ears.

"Hey. What's your name?" Adelina asked the stormtrooper.

"FN-2187." He responded.

"That's-what?" Poe asked.

"That's the only name they ever gave me." He said.

"Well we can't call you that." Adelina responded.

"FN, huh?" Poe asked, "Finn. I'm going to call you Finn. Is that alright?"

"Finn. I like that." Finn answered.

"I'm Poe. Poe Dameron." Poe said.

"And I'm Adelina Solo." Adelina grinned.

"Good to meet you Poe. Adelina." Finn responded.

"Good to meet you too, Finn." Adelina and Poe answered.

The three sat in silence for a moment before Adelina broke the silence, "Um guys. They're firing at us again."

"Okay Finn. One's coming towards you. My right. Your left." Poe instructed.

"Yeah. I see them." Finn fired taking out one.

"Nice shot." Poe praised Finn.

"Um. Dameron. Where the hell are we going?" Adelina asked as she saw Poe lead them back to Jakku.

"We're going back to Jakku." Poe said.

"I can see that, but why the hell are we doing that?" Adelina growled.

"No. We can't go back to Jakku. We have to get out of this system." Finn said.

"Finn's right. They'll kill us." Adelina told him, "Dameron. Use your head."

"I gotta get my droid before the first order does." Poe told her.

"Wait. A droid?" Finn asked.

"That's right. He's a BB unit, orange and white, one of a kind." Poe answered.

"Yeah, he's precious, Dameron. But our lives are also precious and as much as I hate my mom right now, I would like to return in one piece." Adelina told him.

"Well, I for one don't care what color he is or if he's precious. No droid can be that important." Finn answered.

"This one is pal." Poe responded.

"We have to get as far away from the first order as we can. We go back to Jakku, then we die." Finn said.

"That droid has a map that leads straight to Luke Skywalker." Poe responded.

"Oh you got to be kidding me." Finn complains.

Just then a bright light erupts in the sky from a blast which shakes the entire TIE fighter. Adelina screams as a searing pain comes into her side.

"Lina?" Poe's voice sounded frantic as Adelina's eyes shut and she pressed her palm into her side, "Lina. Are you okay?"

"I'm bleeding but I think I'll live. Tell me you can land us." Adelina asked him, looking at her side which was messy from blood.

"No. Everything's been disabled." Poe told her.

"Poe." Adelina shakily reached out her hand for him.

Poe looked at her before grabbing her hand, "You're bleeding a lot, Lina."

"I like it when you call me that." Adelina smiled softly at him.

"We're not going to die. None of us are going to die, okay?" Poe told her, rubbing his thumb over her hand.

"Don't make promises you can't keep." Finn's voice answered.

Adelina leaned her head back on the headrest, bracing herself for death as the fighter hurled towards Jakku.
