[ Chapter Twelve ]

❝Mom. It's the only lead we've got. Besides, it makes some sense.❞

[Before the Events of The Force Awakens]

Word was going around that Poe Dameron was getting ready to leave again, only days after returning from a mission that had killed one of their own. Supposedly he wasn't heading out with his usual squadron as they were still pretty messed up from what had occurred, though Adelina was quite surprised that General Leia was going to allow her prized pilot out alone which was why Adelina was currently storming up to her mom.

"Mom. Do you have a minute?" Adelina asked, a hand on her hip as she glared at her mom from across the room. General Leia was busy with some kind of preparations that she hadn't cared to share with her daughter.

"Of course, sweetie. What is it?" General Leia turned towards her daughter. Despite her sweet words, her face remained fairly emotionless.

"Where is Commander Dameron going?" Adelina asked her mom, curiously. She had given up trying to go on a mission as she knew her mom would never allow it. Leia was way too worried about her only daughter's safety considering what happened to her other child.

"Nowhere, sweetie. He's just getting his plane repaired. It's pretty damaged after-" General Leia cut off for a minute before clearing her throat, "I'm not sending him anywhere until he finds out where Tekka is which is key for his mission to continue."

"Mom. If you don't mind, I'd like to do some research of my own. I can probably find Tekka in a couple days and then Commander Dameron can complete his mission." Adelina asked her mom.

"Go ahead but I already have a couple pilots out there searching and people researching here, so I'm not sure how much good it will do." General Leia sighed, a little exasperated.

Adelina smiled at her mom, "They haven't had nearly as much time to learn how to research like I do."

A couple of days later, Adelina was buried in all kinds of paper and computer programs as she scoured everything for even the hint of information. Tekka was a hard man to find and there wasn't much after he disappeared and went off the grid. Of course, Poe already had the information that he'd gained from his missions but it didn't seem to reveal anything.

Adelina groaned aloud and collapsed on her back on the floor. This was completely useless. There was no way she would find anything and her chance of getting rid of the annoying pilot, and pleasing her mother looked pretty slim.

Adelina sat back up and went to the computer screen that had dinged notifying her of a completed search. Adelina tilted her head as she stared at the screen. A page was open that pinpointed the location that Tekka was supposedly residing. A place called Jakku.

Adelina frowned. All she had heard about Jakku was that it was a desert planet that had hardly anything on it and it did not sound pleasant. But it made sense that Tekka was hiding somewhere that no one would suspect. It was the perfect out of the way planet. Almost as good as hiding on Tatooine but that planet had annoyingly become famous because of her uncle.

Adelina quickly transferred the information to her portable tablet and headed to her mom who for the first time ever was completely free.

General Leia looked up and raised her eyebrows when her daughter waltzed into the room.

"Hi mom. You'll never guess what I just found." Adelina had a pleased smirk on her face.

"Don't tell me you found Lor San Tekka's hiding place?" General Leia stood up and walked over to her daughter who held out the tablet.

"Told you I'm good." Adelina smiled as her mom looked over the tablet and the location that Adelina had pulled up.

"Jakku?" General Leia laughed, "Are you sure?"

"Mom. It's the only lead we've got. Besides, it makes some sense. He probably wanted to disappear and no one goes to Jakku. It's one of the most boring planets in the galaxy. Why would you?" Adelina remarked.

"You've got a point, sweetie but it's a reach." General Leia handed back the tablet, "I need a day or two to think before I send out a pilot."

"Alright mom. Whatever you say." Adelina turned around and left the room.

General Leia sighed and sat back down in her chair. Her daughter was right. This was the best lead they had and she should send a pilot out but what if she lost them. She'd already lost a good pilot and they couldn't afford to lose more. Plus, attempting to retrieve this map could bring the whole First Order down on them.

General Leia also knew that her daughter desperately wanted to see her uncle again But Leia knew he didn't want to be found. Unfortunately, they needed his help. Luke was one of the only people who had enough power to help them. As far as she knew, there were no other Jedis left in the galaxy. Or if there were, they were in as deep hiding as her brother.

She didn't think that she should send Poe Dameron out either but she wasn't sure who she should send. Poe was still grieving in his own way, and he was kind of a mess. She didn't want him to dive headfirst into danger which is what he usually did. She also didn't want to send the Black Squadron out when they were also grieving.

But the only other option was to send her own daughter out. Adelina was ready, Leia knew that but she didn't know if she was ready to send her daughter. She couldn't lose her.

When Adelina received a message early the next morning that her mom wanted to talk to her in her private office, she was a little worried.

Adelina dressed in her uniform and headed to her mom's office and was ushered in by her mom before she even paused to knock, "Mom? What is it?"

Adelina looked across the room where her mom was seated at her desk staring at her daughter, "I thought about what you said and I'm going to take your advice and send a pilot to Jakku."

Adelina smiled a little but then her smile fell, "You mean the Black Squadron? Of course."

General Leia stood up and walked over to her daughter, "Actually, I was going to send you."

Adelina's mouth dropped open as if she didn't register her mom's words which she had heard loud and clear, "But mom. You haven't sent me on a mission in years."

"I'm aware. But I've learned a lot about you lately and you're such a passionate, determined and strong young woman and I've been ignoring you, my own daughter. You've grown so much and I know I need to give you this opportunity." General Leia told her daughter and Adelina smiled at her mom.

"Are you sending me alone?"

"I think so. I was going to ask around and see if anyone is willing to accompany you." General Leia told her.

Adelina nodded, agreeing with her mom, "If not, then I'll have CeCe to help me."

General Leia nodded though she looked really worried about her daughter.

"I'll be fine, mom. I promise." Adelina hugged her mom tightly. She was thrilled that her mom was finally trusting her with a big assignment. A mission. Something she hadn't done in years.

Adelina pulled back and grinned, "So, when do I leave?"
