[ Chapter Five ]
❝You were supposed to keep me on communications. That was the whole damn reason I was in the control room.❞
[Before the Events of The Force Awakens]

Adelina slammed down her comn as she saw the Black Squadron's planes from the surveillance cameras. She pressed her palms into her hands and let out a frustrated groan. She was glad that they had all made it out alive but she was extremely angry with Poe Dameron who upon General Leia's orders was supposed to keep her updated on his situation.
"Bloody hell, I'm going to kill that pilot." Adelina cursed as she got up from her chair and stormed out of the control center. Several people glanced at her but shrugged as they knew that this was her normal behavior with Poe Dameron.
Adelina ran into Nara on the way downstairs, "Hey, they're back." Nara told her best friend.
"Yes, I am very much aware and I'm about to have words with Poe Dameron about his lack of communication." Adelina told her as they headed to the landing bay.
"Right after his victory? Lina. That's kind of a bitchy move." Nara told her, "Don't you think?"
A look of annoyance crossed Adelina's face as she registered Nara's words. She supposed it would be kind of rude to pounce on him the second he arrived so she decided to wait until the celebration that night. Plus, she always believed in being public about her arguments with Poe Dameron so everyone wouldn't get the wrong idea. Last time she'd pulled him aside she'd been accused of having a sexy makeout session which was far from the truth. Sure, Nara had kind of caught them in a compromising position but that was because Poe had cornered her into a small space. Nothing else.
"Alright, Nar. I'll see you at tonight's celebration." Adelina shot a smile at her best friend as she left to put something slightly less dirty on.

Drinks were in abundance that night as all the pilots and flight crew were partying it up after the Black Squadron's victory. Adelina arrived and lurked in the shadows, watching for her best friend. When Nara showed up, Adelina immediately grabbed her hand and dragged her over to Jessika Pava.
"Hey Jess. Glad to see you made it out alive." Adelina shot her a smile and patted her shoulder.
"Thanks Adelina. You seen Poe yet? He was bragging about how you'd congratulate him tonight." Jessika wiggled her eyebrows and shot a smirk at Adelina.
Adelina stared at Jessika for a second, her eyebrows furrowed as she tried to think about what Jessika was implying.
"Omigod, that conceited bastard." Adelina's expression turned to horror as she registered the thought in her mind, "Sorry, Nara. I have some business to take care of. I trust you and Jess can keep each other company until I get back?"
Nara nodded though a blush was starting to spread across her cheeks. Adelina hugged her before walking over to where she saw BB-8 sitting near Poe.
"BB-8!" Adelina grinned and knelt down beside the round droid, "I heard you were very brave."
BB-8 beeps excitedly and rolls around the woman telling her of his adventure.
"Really? That's amazing." Adelina smiled at the droid, "Just give me a second. I need to talk to Poe."
Poe turned around at the mention of his name but didn't get the chance to speak because as soon as Adelina stood up, she slapped Poe right in the middle of the celebration. Even with music playing, the slap echoed through the room causing many people to turn around and stare at the two of them with their mouths open.
Poe Dameron clutched his cheek in pain, "What in the galaxy was that for?"
"You know what it was for, Dameron." Adelina sneered at the older man, "You were supposed to keep me on communications. That was the whole damn reason I was in the control room."
"Sorry darling. I was a little busy." Poe smirked, removing his hand from his cheek.
"Don't call me darling." Adelina growled, "But at least you're all safe. Thank the force."
With that, she spun on her heel and walked away. She wasn't going to deal with his bullshit anymore today.

Poe Dameron sighed as he watched Adelina walk away from him. He'd screwed up. Again. He wasn't sure how to gain her forgiveness for something he'd done years ago. It wasn't like he liked her. That was far from the case. He just flirted with her because he liked to mess with her. He'd done it since they were kids. But Adelina had pushed him as far away as she possibly could when he'd messed up her future.
"You fucked up." L'ulo L'ampar came over with his drink.
Poe turned and looked at one of his best friends, "I'm well aware. No need to rub it in my face."
"Anyways. I love this stuff. I really needed it." L'ulo told him, practically downing his entire cup.
"Actually, I have something to talk to you about. I reviewed the after-action reports and saw that you escalated the fight." Poe pulled his friend aside to a corner of the room which was sparsely occupied. They were supposed to be celebrating so Poe didn't want to ruin others celebrations, "You broke the rules of engagement and gave the First Order a reason to attack."
"War was inevitable, Poe. You and I both know that." L'ulo told him, "Besides every fighter we destroyed was one less that would attack us later on."
Poe pressed his palm to his forehead and let out a breath, "The Resistance isn't stronger than enemy forces. Black Squadron may be, but the Resistance isn't. We're outnumbered one to one thousand."
"Poe-" L'ulo started but didn't get to finish his sentence as Poe interrupted.
"No. You're right. War is inevitable but we're not ready for it and when it comes, we have to be."

Yes, this is really short but I wanted to get it posted plus the next chapter is long because it is another mission for the Black Squadron.
What did you think? Did you like the chapter? What about the scenes with Adelina and Poe? Also, I think I'm getting the hang of writing from Poe's POV.
I love you all and will see you all soon!
