Chapter 19
---Bidziil's POV---
Thorn was growing restless.
It was normal, considering the fact that he wasn't able to go outside or back home to see how Lyra and little Noah were doing. Instead he was forced to stay inside, only able to gaze at the world through the windows, and only after I reinforced them with spells.
Alduin was currently on a patrol, scanning the skies for any angelic activities. He had already reported several small tears in the barriers, where the angels had attempted to break through. What was more concerning though, was that Alduin had spotted several spots in the sky that seemed to glow with heaven fire.
I frowned, arms crossed in front of my chest as I glared at the sky outside. If what Alduin has spotted was true, then the angels were preparing for mass teleportation. And if that was the case, we had to be able to stop them from actually breaching through into my realm.
A soft sigh made me look at Thorn, who was seated on the bed and rolling his shoulders. My frown only deepened as I caught a glimpse of discomfort on his face before he closed his eyes and sighed once more.
"What's wrong?" I murmured softly, gaining his attention. Thorn smiled, though I could tell it took some effort before he shrugged his shoulders. "My back is killing me but I guess it's from lying around all day and not being able to do something else.
For a moment, his blue eyes sparked with pain but he easily concealed it, much to my concern. If Thorn was hiding the true effect of his pain, something was seriously wrong. With a deep sigh, I walked over to the bed and settled beside him.
"Don't hide it Thorn, I can see your suffering. Why didn't you tell me things were getting worse?" I scolded while reaching out to rub over his back. Oddly enough, his back was cool to the touch but as I brushed gently over his spine, I could feel the slightest of abnormalities underneath his skin.
"What....what is that?" Thorn asked with a small voice as I slowly trailed the lump underneath his skin. It was barely noticeable but when I put slight pressure on it, it flexed...on both sides of his shoulders.
My eyes widened as an idea came to mind, this time both my hands brushing over his back. "I believe you inherited something of both your parents..." I murmured calmly, sensing Thorn's panic.
He calmed down, only just and reached his own hand back to brush over the newly formed joints underneath his skin. "Do you mean..." He trailed off as I lifted a brow and smirked slowly.
My eyes flitted towards the door, where I had heard footsteps coming closer. When Thorn looked over, his father just stepped inside, pausing as he noticed both of us staring at him.
"Jason, you might want to take a look at this." Jason's golden eyes flared in curiosity, a hint of worry in his movements as he walked around the bed and glanced at our hands. His eyes narrowed slightly but instantly sparked with understanding as he traced the barely visible lines on his shoulder and back.
We caught each other's eyes and nodded, knowing what exactly Thorn had inherited. "This will complicate matters." Jason sighed, thumb pressing slightly on the forming joints before he gave his son's shoulder a reassuring squeeze.
"Why?" Thorn asked cautiously, the blue flashing in the darkness of his eyes. Jason sighed deeply, tiredly rubbing his neck as he looked down at his son.
With a jerk of his chin towards Thorn's back, Jason replied, "Wings aren't just formed; they're earned. Which means that we have miscalculated the angels intentioned. They aren't just waiting for an opportunity to teleport inside this realm."
Jason's eyes flashed in anger, an emotion I understood clearly as I felt my own temper starting to slowly boil. "They're waiting for Thorn to follow his growing abilities and venture outside this realm, aren't they?"
When Jason nodded grimly, my fists clenched in anger as my skin heated up. Why couldn't those pompous bastards go away and focus on more important tasks than trying to eradicate Thorn? What did he ever do wrong to them?
Cool fingers curled around my wrists and gave a small tug, making me realize that my hands were crackling with fire. I took a few deep and cleansing breathes, all the while very aware of Thorn's fingers calmly rubbing over my arms.
As I managed to rein my temper back, I opened my eyes and gave him a thankful smile before placing a kiss on the corner of his inviting lips. This caused Thorn to hum pleasantly, though a small pink blush warmed his cheeks when his eyes darted to his father.
Jason's eyes danced with amusement before he shook his head and pushed himself away from the bed. "I'll take my leave before things get more heated but please; if Thorn's judgmental powers come to the surface, don't let him leave without you."
A snort escaped me; as if I would ever let Thorn wander around with those murderous angels on the loose. When the door closed behind Jason, I looked back at my love and smiled warmly as I realized he was still tracing my arms in an attempt to keep me calm.
His eyes weren't focused on me though, in fact they seemed to aimlessly trace through the room, as if searching for something. A teasing smirk slipped on my lips as I gently took a hold of his hands and yanked, gaining a startled yelp while Thorn fumbled and landed in my lap.
My arms were quick to curl around his slender waist, hands fanning out over his stomach and tracing his abs as I chuckled when Thorn threw me a heated glare. His eyes were burning but made me feel anything but uncomfortable. He realized this quickly and rolled his eyes but didn't try to escape my hold.
"Stubborn oaf." He grumbled under his breath, squeaking when I jabbed a finger in his ribs and grinned victoriously as it made him squirm. "What was that honey?" I teased, only getting a half-hearted grumble as a reply before he stilled, eyes narrowing as he stared at the wall.
"Did you hear that?"
---Thorn's POV---
It was clear that Bidziil didn't hear what I was hearing; a soft whispering, pleading followed by sobbing. A child. My body almost reacted on its own as I pushed myself out of Bidziil's hold and followed my senses to where one of my entities suddenly appeared as it circled around....
The apparition gasped, pushing itself closer against the wall. A boy, barely five was staring up at me with wide, tearful eyes yet when I glanced at Bidziil, I could tell from the confused yet curious look in his eyes that he didn't see the boy in his bedroom.
Was I the only one seeing him?
I felt coldness cut through my arm and I gasped, turning back in time to see the boy's hand fade through my skin, eyes widening in shock as he started to cry again and quickly retracted his hand.
"Mommy! I want my mommy!"
The shear pain and desperation in his voice made my legs wobble but Bidziil was quick to support me. "What is it Thorn? What do you see?" He whispered in my ear while keeping me upright. I shivered, unable to take my eyes of the child as it cradled its head between his legs, rocking back and forth while his shoulders shook from the heart-wrenching sobs.
"A boy, merely a child, crying and calling for help." My head tilted slightly as I shot my lover a look. "You don't see him?" I wondered, glancing back at the boy while my entity slowly swirled around it, a soothing blue shimmering from its core.
Bidziil shook his head, following my eyes to track the entity but the boy remained invisible for him, though I could clearly see the reflection of the child in his eyes.
I slowly hunched down, reaching a hand to the boy and shivered as it gave me a wary look before placing his tiny palm on mine. Images flashed in my mind and I shook under the painful barrage of information, sighing as Bidziil's arms were the only things that managed to keep me grounded.
Finally I got to the core of the problem and I wished I hadn't because the truth of what happened to the boy was vile. My stomach turned with a gurgle and Bidziil all but hauled me over his shoulder to dash to the nearby toilet before I emptied my stomach painfully, all the while hearing the child's sobs.
Molested. Tortured. Murdered.
I gagged again but my stomach was empty. After a moment Bidziil hauled be upright and cleaned my mouth before giving me a glass of water so I could rinse. My eyes were burning with anger and as I relayed the images back to Bidziil, I could see the small flames licking all over his body, signaling that he was beyond pissed off.
He was murderous.
The boy was found to be a mate of one of the fairies but the woman didn't want to change him or force the child to accelerate quickly to a more mature age. Instead, she had wanted to wait for him to age naturally while she taught him everything she knew and would offer him a choice instead of binding him by force.
However, several of the immortal beings didn't approve and when the woman had tried to hide the boy and his family, they had sought out vengeance. The fairy was outnumbered and couldn't do anything against the gang of warlocks, wolves and vampires that had descended on her home and proceeded to abuse and torment the child, using it to their pleasure before ripping him apart before the fairies eyes.
Now she bound herself to the pond where they tossed the child's body in, mourning his loss as her tears cascaded into the water below.
My eyes watered and as I looked up at Bidziil, my resolve hardened, especially after he nodded and went off to inform the others of our absence.
There was no way that I was going to let a bunch of bigoted, murderous and pedophilic monsters roam the face of the earth, letting them threaten more innocent lives. They were going to die by my hand while I would resurrect the boy, one way or another.
A child's innocence was sacred and to have the boy defiled in such a vile way made my back ache even more. My fists shook beside me as my powers cracked to life.
Let the angels come and dare to stop me from seeking justice. If they even tried to stop me from hunting down those monsters, they could burn beside them.
