Chapter 5

Sasuke’s POV
I tossed and turned, trying to get to sleep. For some reason I was stressing about Kasumi. I felt like something bad was going to happen to her. I groaned in agony, why was my mind playing tricks on me? I sat up and pulled the covers off me. I slowly crept out of my room and down the hall to hers. I slowly slid the door open and peeked in. My heart skipped a beat when I saw an empty bed. I held my breath as I noticed Kasumi sitting by the open window. I sighed with relief, quiet so she wouldn’t hear me.
I heard her talking; I tilted my head to the side, curious.
‘Don’t worry, I’ll find a way back home soon,’ she whispered. She sat staring out at the moon, large, round and bright white in the starry night sky. I glanced down at my feet, slightly sad. I’d only just met this girl and I already felt I’d known her all my life, I felt I could trust her, I didn’t really want her to go, to be left alone again...
Kasumi stood up, pushing her long red hair behind her ears. She walked backwards slowly, still looking at the moon. She was about to turn around. I darted silently back down the hall, into my own room. I jumped back into bed and smiled to myself, she was okay, now I could sleep better. We’d have to get up in a few hours, to meet Kakashi Sensei and the others. I rolled my eyes at the thought of Naruto and Sakura, those two were so annoying, especially Sakura.
Earlier at lunch today, after Naruto had kidnapped me and tied me up, I’d ran into her. She kept saying how much she hated Naruto, I don’t blame her, he is pretty annoying; but she had no right to say what she’d said about being alone without any parents. She’s got no idea what pain and suffering I feel, what Naruto feels. As much as I hate that kid’s guts, we’re nearly the same, we’re both alone.
I tilted my head towards my door and thought of Kasumi, just a few rooms down the hall from me. Well, maybe I wasn’t completely alone...

Kasumi’s POV
I woke up at three, my ankle was throbbing. I sighed, there wasn’t really any point in going back to sleep, I’d only have to wake myself up again in half an hour, though an extra half hour in bed wouldn’t hurt...NO Kasumi!
I groaned and dragged myself out of bed. I hobbled into the bathroom, limping at the pressure I put on my right foot. It was fine yesterday, but why was it hurting today? Of all days?! I opened the bathroom cupboard and found some pain killers. I hope Sasuke-kun won’t mind if I take two...
I hopped down the stairs, as quietly as I could, not wanting to wake Sasuke. I made my way into the kitchen and flicked on the lights. To my surprise, Sasuke was already up and dressed.
‘Oh, sorry Sasuke-kun, did I wake you up?’ I asked worriedly. Sasuke shook his head, smiling.
‘No, you didn’t I’ve been up for a while now,’ Sasuke said quietly. I smiled, well at least didn’t wake him up. I took a seat opposite him and yawned.
‘Want anything to eat?’ he asked. I shook my head, I was gonna follow Kakashi Sensei’s advice and not eat anything.
‘Kakashi Sensei told us not to eat anything and I’m not sure I look that good when I’m throwing up in the bushes, what about you?’ I joked. Sasuke laughed.
‘Hai, yeah, not the best look,’ he chuckled. He opened the fridge and pulled out some milk and offered me some, I shrugged and he gave me a glass. I sipped it slowly, I wasn’t a huge lover of milk. I watched as Sasuke gulped it down and removed the glass from his mouth, revealing a sexy looking milk moustache. (I meant sexy in a sarcastic way, he looked like a total douche but he was still hot) I mentally slapped myself in the face. No! Bad Kasmui, bad! Sasuke-kun is your friend and that’s all he’ll ever be.
‘What?’ Sasuke asked raising an eyebrow as I burst out laughing. I pointed a shaking finger at his face, in between my laughter. He glanced down and began to blush furiously.
‘Sorry about that, I must’ve looked like an idiot!’ Sasuke said rubbing his mouth. He wiped his face angrily. I didn’t like it when he was sad or angry, so I decided to cheer him up. I grabbed my glass.
‘No, honest! I look a thousand times worse!’ I gulped the milk down at lightning speed and revealed a bold white moustache that made me look like some creepy bloke. I pouted my lips out and wrinkled my nose.
‘See Sasuke-kun, I look more of an idiot with this thick white moustache of milk!’ I laughed putting on a strange accent. A smile crept across Sasuke’s face.
‘No, you don’t it suits you,’ he chuckled. I shot him a goofy look.
‘Why thank you, Mister!’ I grinned doing a goofier accent. Sasuke laughed. I stood up and smiled at him.
‘Well, I’m gonna go wash this stuff off my face and try make myself look nice for once,’ I said walking out of the room.
‘You always look pretty anyway,’ Sasuke said casually. I stopped in my tracks for a split second. I glanced over my shoulder and saw Sasuke’s back to me, going down the fridge. I blinked and then rushed up the stairs, hopping because of my ankle. When I was in the privacy of my room and put my head in my hands and lost myself in thought. What had Sasuke just said? Did he really, truly, actually mean it? I clutched my chest as I felt an ache in my heart. I heard the sounds of my parent’s voices in my head. I grabbed a bunch of my long scarlet hair with my other hand and listened to the cries of my mother and my father. I closed my eyes and gritted my teeth together. What was going on!? I let out a scream as I heard them call for me. I dropped to my knees, causing a loud bang.
‘KASUMI!’ a voice from downstairs called. I heard footsteps and someone burst into my room, the voices of my parents disappeared. Sasuke stood at my door, armed with a kunai and shirukens. His eyes widened when he saw me.
‘Kasumi! Are you alright, are you hurt?’ he said rushing to my side. I breathed heavily and nodded my head.
‘What happened?’ Sasuke demanded. I blinked and stared at the floor. What had just happened? I had no clue.
‘No, it’s fine Sasuke-kun, just my ankle,’ I said. This was partly true as the throbbing had returned to my foot. Sasuke crouched beside me and helped me to my feet. He sat me on the bed and examined my foot. He slowly and gently removed the splint and took a look. He shook his head.
‘The swelling has gone up again, your ankle could be worse than I thought Kasumi. It could be broken,’ he said replacing the splint. I shook my head; it couldn’t be broken could it? I hadn’t really done anything that could’ve made the injury worse.
‘We should get you to a hospital, you should just skip today’s practise, go back to bed and get some rest,’ Sasuke said standing up. I shook my head, my hair flowing.
‘No, I’ll be fine; I have to pass Sasuke,’ I whispered. Sasuke looked at me angrily.
‘You’ll only make it worse though!’ he growled.
‘It doesn’t matter, I’ll go to the hospital after I’ve passed,’ I argued back. Sasuke sighed.
‘Fine, but take it easy anyway, I don’t want to have to fail because of your stupidity,’ he said harshly. I looked at the ground sadly. Sasuke face palmed.
‘I didn’t mean it like that Kasumi-chan, I meant, well...I just didn’t want you to get...hurt,’ Sasuke struggled. I looked up and gave him a nervous smile, blushing a brilliant red. Sasuke’s cheeks went a little pink too, or maybe that was just my imagination...
-------------------
Sasuke helped me through the streets. We were nearly at the training grounds and it was coming up to quarter to five in the morning. We’d be early, maybe we’d be the first ones there. We stopped occasionally, only for a few seconds but it helped me get my breath back. Sasuke glance at me, worried.
‘Kasumi...’ he started. I gave him a fake smile and a thumbs up.
‘I’m fine, don’t worry about me; I promised you I’d go to the hospital after I’d passed, and I never break my promises. Come on, we’re nearly there!’ I said struggling on ahead. Sasuke helped me and we arrived at the training grounds at ten to five. I noticed a certain pink haired girl, sitting with her arms folded, on a rock. She jumped up when she saw Sasuke but her face turned sour when she saw his arm around my shoulders, helping me to walk. Obviously, that’s not the thoughts that were going on in Sakura’s head right now. I sighed.
‘What is it, Kasumi-chan?’ Sasuke asked. I nodded towards Sakura and Sasuke nodded too. We reached Sakura and she narrowed her eyes at me.
‘What is it with you, Tomato?’ she demanded, placing her hands on her hips. I growled. She was so going down today, bad ankle or not, she was finished, for being a bitch to Naruto and I.
