Morning.
It crawled into my dreams and shook me awake, reminding me I was alive for the moment, but I closed my eyes again, not ready to face it. I shut them tight as my recurring nightmare recalled to memory. I found comfort in it, enough to keep replaying the scenes repeatedly. Maybe it could be my lullaby. Maybe it would put me back to sleep. Slowly it did, and my nightmare slammed me like a hit and run. I was all in and ready for it.
Morning will have to wait.
There was darkness everywhere. I could hear things around me and coming after me. Bugs crawling. Snakes hissing. They grew closer and closer, waiting to consume me, and I let them. I let them devour me, because why not? Being eaten alive while my conscience yelled, You're a fuck up. You're a waste. Why are you still breathing? This is my life-what I'm made of, and it keeps me strong. This reminds me of how alive I really am. It would scare a normal person. They would scream and cry for help, run and fall helplessly to get up and run again. I don't want to run. Running is for the weak.
However, something was different this time.
In the darkness's midst, a light appeared as if were from the sun. I peered up to see particles dancing in the rays swiveled within it. A hand filtered through, dainty and soft, reaching out for me, rescuing me. What am I to rescue? Rescuing is a nightmare. I don't want a rescue because I'm fine just the way I am.
The sound of my alarm jolted me awake. Turning over to grab my phone from the nightstand, my eyes adjusted to see the time. Fuck, I'm late.
I crawled out of bed, grabbing whatever I needed to get my day started. I dressed quicker than normal and hurried downstairs.
"Tae? I thought you had work?" The familiar voice called out to me as I hit the last step of the stair.
I nodded as a reply and made my way into the kitchen to grab some juice. Feet shuffled closer to me as I closed the door to the fridge. Our eyes met, followed by a sigh of disappointment from him as his gaze wondered toward my lip. I turned away.
"Another fight, Taehyung?" He questioned.
I gulped the rest of juice in the gallon down and tossed the container in trash. "It's nothing." I mumbled. I heard the scoff but ignored it as I grabbed the keys to my bike-but they were out of my grasp before I could brush my fingers against them.
"Taehyung, wait!" He raked his fingers through his hair. "When will this end, huh? I took you into my home to keep you out of trouble. I got you that job with Namjoon and you continue to fuck up. When will you get it together?"
I glared at Jin. I didn't want to bite the hand that fed me and I'm grateful for him, but old habits were hard to break. "When I'm tired of fucking up, I guess." I was snarky, and it only pissed him off more-but I had to show I didn't care.
Jin clenched his jaw before throwing the keys back at me. "Get to work." He muttered before leaving the kitchen.
I didn't enjoy upsetting Jin. It sets the tone for my days and I can't ever seem to recover from them, but I wasn't in the mood for being scolded, either. Besides, I already ruined my day from my rescue nightmare.
