Part 24- An Epic Date

Greya's POV...

Tonight's the big night!

Or should I say, in 5 minutes Lox is taking us on our first official date. Official, because Becker and I didn't actually go on any dates per say. We hung out mostly, rarely by ourselves and most of the time we were both finding ways to avoid him being abused by Jack.

So, tonight is a night I've been waiting over three years for.

" They're here Grey!" Chase informs me.

I'm wearing a pale green halter dress that hangs just above my knees. Ari picked it out of course so it would accentuate my eyes. I've got a dark jean jacket to wear over it because it gets chillier here in fall.

I'm not sure where he's taking me but he said to wear a dress but nothing fancy.

Chase opens the door to let them in and then comes barreling into my room. He's been looking forward to spending time with Liam.

"Tell me what you're wearing?"

I explain the best I can, relating the color to a flower petal. Although he's never seen colors or a flower petal, he's felt one and smelled one and knows it resembles something light and beautiful.

"He's going to love it Grey! Have the best time!"

"Thanks little brother. Have fun with Liam tonight, don't give him any trouble," I ruffle his hair with my fingers before going out to greet the guys.

"Wow! Y...you l...look a...amazing!" Lox tells me, making me instantly smile.

"You don't look so bad yourself," I smirk.

As much as I want to go out with him tonight, what he's wearing makes me want to drag him into my room and lock the door.

He's gorgeous. I've always thought that no matter what he wears, but seeing him in a slim fit black button down shirt, black pants that hug his ass perfectly, and his hair styled as if he just posed for the cover of GQ magazine, is doing a number on my hormones.

"W...what?

I'm obviously staring a bit too long.

"Nothing. I haven't seen you dress up before. You are so handsome. You're always handsome, tonight you're extra handsome..."

He grabs my hand to stop me from babbling and smiles.

"C...come on, our u...uber is out f...front."

"Have fun you two!" Liam says.

"Thanks for hanging out with Chase tonight," I thank him.

Once in the car I try to get him to tell me where we're going. He holds my hand and shakes his head. He's good at keeping surprises.

"You don't have your cane tonight?" I hope that didn't sound like an accusation or anything. I'm curious as how some days he uses a crutch, some days a cane, and on rare occasions he doesn't use anything.

"T...today's a g...good d...day," he shrugs. "Plus I..I want t...to be able t...to d...dance with y...you tonight."

"We're going dancing?"

"P...possibly," he shrugs again, smirking at me.

I love this side of him.

We pull up in front of a black painted building with blacked out windows. There's a hanging sign above the door that reads, "Grande Ol Time".

"Is this safe?"

He smiles at me, holding out his hand as he steps out of the car. "Trust m...me, it's s...safe."

He's holding my hand with his right one, which isn't common because he's usually holding a cane or crutch. His grip is significantly more noticeable than when I hold his left hand, showing me just how different his right side is from his left. Every step he takes with his left leg, I feel his hand squeeze mine a little tighter. If he's using me for support when he walks because he wants to dance with me tonight, I'm more than happy to help him.

On the outside, this place looks like a dungeon, but as soon as we open it's doors, the inside is bursting with life.

I'm immediately drawn to the music from the stage at the end of the room. Two grande pianos facing each other while two guys are playing Gerry Lee Lewi's "Great Balls of Fire".

I look at Lox, he's grinning at the huge smile I have plastered on my face.

"I've heard about these places before but I've never been to one!" I'm so excited.

"Do you have a reservation?" The man at the podium next to us asks.

Lox squeezes my hand again, this time because he's nervous. He doesn't use his voice in front of strangers very often. I squeeze his hand in return hoping to give him some encouragement.

"M...Madden for t...two," he stutters. I squeeze his fingers again and lean my body into him slightly.

I get a brief smile out of him again.

"Right this way," the man grabs a few menus and motions for us to follow him.

His pace is much faster than ours though I don't mind walking a little slower with Lox. I have a chance to soak in everything around us as we make our way to our table.

There's a bar on our left side and what I assume is a kitchen in the back of it. The room layout is almost split in half by a walkway down the middle and a bunch of tables for people to sit at on either side. The guys playing the pianos have different color shirts on, one blue and the other gold. The room must be split so we can cheer for the guy who's playing on our side I'm guessing.

The decor in this place is nothing special but the ambiance and the audience totally make up for it.

Our host is patiently waiting for us to get to our small table to the left of the stage. There's a single gold flower as the center piece and our utensils are wrapped in gold napkins. We're part of the gold team tonight.

As we sit, a waitress comes over and asks for our drink orders.

The drink menu has about 20 different types of martinis listed, all look appealing to me.

"I'll have a pomegranate martini please."

"Water f..for me p...please."

I think the waitress and I both scrunch our brows at the same time. "Any apps?" She asks us.

"Do y...you l...like w...wings?" Lox asks me. The waitress eyeing him and then me like she's trying to figure us out.

"Yeah, wings are great. Is barbecue ok?" I ask Lox and he nods.

For a moment I think about doing the ordering to save Lox from any negative feelings, but he surprises me and orders the wings for us, not seeming to care what the waitress thinks.

Footloose echoes through the room and the people on the opposite side of the room begin cheering when Mr. Blue, I'm going to call him breaks out in a solo.

"This is so fun! How did you find this place?"

"I s...saw a f...flier at the c...coffee shop. I r...realize I...I enjoy th...this music and y...you s...seem to a...also, so th...though w...we could b...both try it o...out."

"This was a great idea," I praise him and his dimpled grin returns.

A few more songs play. People are now up and dancing in the space in front of the stage. At one point some girl's bra lands on Mr. Gold's piano bench and Lox and I are in hysterics.

"Mr. Gold is definitely winning the audience over."

"Y...you're right a...about th...that," Lox laughs again as another bra flies towards the stage.

He looks and me and winks.

"Don't you get any ideas! I just bought this one and I'm not ready to get rid of it yet."

"W...what if I...I was u...up there p...playing?"

I would love if it was Lox up there playing. Before his stroke, he would've been great at this. Maybe he can again someday. I hope.

"Are you flirting with me Lox Madden?"

"C...can't hurt t...to try," he shrugs.

Later, I may very well be taking my bra off for him.

Another man in a suit walks across stage with a mic and shouts, "Everyone hit the dance floor and show your support for your favorite performer!"

I look towards Lox. There's a shy expression on his face.

"It w...wouldn't be w...wise of m...me to f...fall on my f...face on our f...first d...date. You g...go ahead, I...I know y...you want t...to."

Shit. I feel bad. He can't fast dance and I know he's upset he can't go out there with me and at the same time, he wants me to have fun. Ugh!

"I'll g...go out th...there when th...they play a s...slower s...song."

I hesitate.

"G...go ahead, sh...show me y...your m...moves," he smiles and winks at me again.

I stand up and lean over the table, planting a soft kiss onto his lips, making his smile even bigger. I hope that helps.

After the next two songs, I don't feel as bad about dancing when it's mostly women out here with me while their significant others are enjoying their drinks at the tables. Lox included, only a glass of water in his hand.

He's leaning back against his chair, arms loosely crossed over his chest with a permanent grin on his face. He's enjoying the show, all of it and I'm so happy.

Us ladies are making fools of ourselves and we don't care. Most of them are drunk and I've kept to my one martini because it's not fair Lox is drinking water. I don't need to be drunk to have a good time here anyway. This place is rocking and I haven't let myself loose like this in a very long time. Ever really!

"Let's take it down a few notches. Get your dates out on this floor ladies and gentleman," Mr, Blue says.

I eagerly walk back to our table and hold out my hand.

Lox gets himself standing and moves his left leg around a bit, probably testing it out first and then reaches for my hand.

"As l...omg as y...you're ok c...catching m...me a few t...times."

"Always," I say to him.

We stay off to the side so we're not bumping into anyone in the middle. His left arm is bent at 90 degrees which worries me for a second until I decide to gently lift his arm and position it over the back of my shoulders and he immediately pulls me flush to him. His right hand holds onto my left one and my other hand wraps around his mid back. There is virtually no space between us and I don't know if I'm sweating from all the dancing I did or if my body heat index spiked when we closed the gap between us. Either way, I'm melting.

"How's this?" I refer to the way we're holding each other. Does he feel stable enough to dance with me.

"This i...is p...perfect," he whispers into my ear before kissing the sensitive spot directly below it.

A volcano of butterflies erupt through my core, all the way to my fingers and toes. My God, what is he doing to me. Keep doing it.

He's flirting and he's confident tonight. He's not afraid of us holding each other and kissing me. I wonder what going on a date with Becker would've been like. I'm sure he would've planned something wonderful and he would've made sure I was happy, exactly what he's been doing tonight. Only, the old Becker would've needed more assurance before holding each other this way. This new version of him is still afraid of physical contact but not from me. He's completely comfortable now with me touching him. Almost as if his body remembers that I'm his safe place. I don't need to be as careful with Lox, he's not afraid with me.

His leg buckles a few times as we dance and he apologizes even tough there's no need for him to. He's done more tonight than he probably has in the last 3 years. He's out in public, using his voice, and trying his best to dance with me. Which would be very hard for anyone who only has strength in one side of their body.

At the end of the song I feel him burry his face in the crook of my neck for a moment. I hear him inhale and feel his warm breath slowly release against my skin.

""Are you ok," I ask, his forehead now resting on my shoulder.

"D...do you m...mind if w...we head o...out early?"

Early? It's past midnight. Maybe he originally wanted us to stay til closing.

"We can head out now. Do you want me to text for an uber?"

"P...please." He lifts his head from my shoulder and clutches to my arm this time while we walk back to our table.

"What's wrong Lox?

"My h...head feels a...strange and I...I d...don't want t...to have a s...seizure here."

Crap! I wondered if all this noise and dancing would trigger one.

My phone chimes telling me our ride's here.

His hands are shaking a bit yet he stands from his chair and holds out one of them to me.

"Tell me how I can help you." Hell if I know what to do if he fell to the floor right now. I need to make sure to ask Liam about it if we make it back without a problem.

"I'm f...fine right n...now. I...if I c...can hold y...your arm f...for more s...support, that w...will h...help?"

"Of course," I tell him when really I want him to put his arm around my shoulder to be safe, but I don't want him to be embarrassed in any way after the amazing night we just had.

Thankfully we make it into the car and the driver's already half way to my house. Lox has been quiet and I don't know if he needs the silence or if I should say anything.

He's lightly circling his thumb around the palm of my hand. Maybe it's calming for him even though he's still shaking.

"H...happens when I...I'm n...nervous," he looks to his shaking limbs.

"What's making you nervous? The way you're head's feeling or that you might have a seizure?" I'm trying to understand so I know what to do.

"B...both. I...I don't w...want to r...ruin our d...date with y...you watching m...me s...seize on the f...floor."

"Nothing could ruin that date. That was the most fun I've had in a long time. Ever actually."

He quickly eyes me, not looking like he believes me.

"I mean it Lox, I had an amazing time with an amazing man." That makes him smile.

"Tell me how you're feeling? Do you feel like this before you have a seizure? Like a warning?"

"Yes and n...no. I'm u...usually l...lightheaded and l...lose my b...balance, and sh...shake like th...this." He looks at his hands again. "Th...this one i...is different, h...hard to ex...explain. M...maybe my n...nerves are m...making my arms t...twitch," he shrugs, unsure of himself.

"Was it too noisy in there for you?"

He shakes his head. "I...I though i...it m...might be b...but I w...was fine. I h...have trouble w...with loud m...music th..through speakers and c...crowded p...places."

That's good to know.

"The piano bar wasn't too loud or crowded, you picked a great spot."

"I'm g...glad y...you liked i...it."

We get to my place and he takes my arm again until we get inside.

Liam's sitting on the couch and looks up from the TV.

"How did it go?" I ask him.

"Great! We played a few games, he beat me of course and he fell asleep around 10:30. How was your night?" He gives me a wary look when he glances at Lox who's now rubbing his forehead with his fingers.

"We had a lot of fun," I tell Liam while guiding Lox to sit on the couch. "He said his head feels strange," I add. Maybe Liam can help.

"I'll get him some water," Liam heads to the kitchen.

I don't like how quiet Loxley is. I sit down next to him and rub his back. "Hey, talk to me."

Still quiet so I move my hand up and cup his cheek, turning his silent gaze towards me. As soon as my thumb brushes across the skin beneath his eye, his expression blanks and his body stiffens.

"Ughhhhh," Is the only noise he makes right before his body convulses. His arms and legs stiffen in awkward positions while quivering at the same time. His eyes are closed and his jaw tightly clenched together while his torso and head fall against me.

"Liam!" I don't know what to do. I've looked it up online once, but nothings the same when it's happening in real life.

Liam comes rushing in. "Try to get him onto his side. Support his head."

He helps by bringing his shaking legs up onto the cushions while I support his upper half. His head is now on my lap and I'm rubbing his back. This is the most painful thing I've ever seen.

"Let him know he's ok, that he's safe." I think is what Liam said. I'm slightly in a panic. How long do these last? Feels like forever watching his body go through this type of torture.

"He can't see what's going on but he can hear us," Liam quickly explains.

So, I brush my fingers through his hair and tell him over and over again that I'm here with him and he's safe.
