Life has been a bit easier ever since I told Alex I was Hyperion. I mean, I don't have to hide my powers around him, I don't have to lie to him anymore. He still seems unsure about all of this, but I think he's taking it better now that he’s had some time.
As for Cyclone, I haven't seen or heard from him in a while. It's like he's taking a break or something. But either way, I'm preparing for his comeback.
Right now, though, I was preparing breakfast for the day. Alex had work, so I offered to make him some pancakes before he left.
Towards the end of my batter, Alex makes his way into the kitchen, practically sleep walking to the coffee machine.
I chuckle softly. “Good morning, Alex. A little tired this morning?” I ask.
“Mmh. Conversation after coffee, Love.” He mumbles, turning the machine on as he gets everything prepared.
I nod softly. “Ah, alright. Silence until then.” I say, and finish making the pancakes. I set the plate in the middle of our table, grabbing the syrup and butter and setting them beside it. I grab a couple plates and silverware for Alex and I, and then sit down. Alex soon joins me with his freshly brewed coffee and smiles gently at me.
“Good morning, John.” He says, sipping his coffee. “Thank you for breakfast.”
“Anytime, dear.”
We start dishing up and decorating our food, and there’s a somewhat awkward silence as we do. I think Alex has been wanting to ask questions about my other identity, but he’s been holding back, as we haven’t had time to properly talk through everything. I guess now’s as good a time as ever.
“So.. We haven’t really talked about the whole.. Hyperion thing, much. You’ve got to be curious.” I mention.
He stares at me, finishing the food in his mouth. He then chuckles nervously, looking away. “It’s a little early for this..”
“Well, I know, but we haven’t had much time, and I thought maybe now would be a good time.” I say, rubbing the back of my neck slightly. “I just want you to know that I’ll answer any question you have, because I’m sure you have many.”
He shakes his head slightly. “Nope, none that I can think of.” He says.
But he was lying. I know he was. One, because he has a tell; he hesitates with his words. And two, because he’s always got questions about everything. He’s a naturally curious person, he couldn’t not have something he wanted to know.
“Really? Mr. Question-Everything doesn’t have a single question to ask me?” I ask, raising an eyebrow at him.
He sighs gently. “Look, I just.. I think I just need some more time to process everything. Believe me, there will be questions, I’m just trying to understand that my boyfriend is some superhuman.”
“I mean, I get that. It’s gotta be hard to understand my powers-”
“That and the fact that you are willingly putting yourself in danger to protect people you don’t even know from a threat you’re not even sure exists.” He says before eating more from his plate.
I frown gently. I knew he didn’t like me fighting Cyclone, and that that was going to take more getting used to. I simply nod, not sure what to say. I knew he wanted me to say I would give up, but I also knew that wasn’t an option.
“I don’t know..” He says quietly. “Part of me is so glad you told me. I mean, I hate that you had to keep that secret from me in the first place, you know? But the other part of me wishes I still didn’t know. I hate having to think about you fighting somebody with powers, wondering if you’re alright.”
“I get it. I don’t know how I’d feel if you also were living some secret double life. It’s understandable that you’re still processing all of it.” I sigh softly before reaching across the table and grabbing his hands. “But I don’t want you to worry about me. I’ve got this under control, trust me. I’m not going to let Cyclone win.”
He hesitates slightly but then gives a small smile. “I know, I know. I'm sure you've got this all under control, but that's not going to stop me from worrying.”
“Well, I'll try to be safe, and try not to worry you too much.”
“That's all I can ask for.” He says, kissing my hand gently.
I smile at him and then return to my food, Alex tilting his head slightly.
“Ya know, I do have one question.” He starts, and I look up at him. “Why Hyperion? What was the inspiration for that?”
I finish swallowing my food, taking a moment to word my answer. “Well, you know the Titan God Hyperion, right?” He nods. “My mom was always obsessed with his story, and would tell it to me as a kid. Then, considering he was the god of heavenly light, I thought it only felt right, as I hoped my mom was watching me from above.”
He nods again, looking down at his plate. “Do you ever wish your mom didn't go?” He asks kinda quietly.
I sigh softly. “Well, of course. Everyday something happens that I want to tell her about. She would've loved you, too.”
“If you got control of that box Cyclone is after, would you wish her back?” He asks, not looking up at me.
I pause for a moment, not even sure how to answer. I had never thought of that. If I got the box from Cyclone, realistically I could ask for just that. It would be so nice to have her back. But there would be a price to pay for her return.
I shake my head gently. “No. I'm a firm believer in everything happens for a reason, and I know she wouldn't want me to wish her back when I would have to sacrifice someone in her place.”
“But what if it's someone who's a bad person? Or someone who is already about to go?” He asks, now looking up at me.
“It's not the natural way. I know my mom went peacefully, and I know she's always with me.” I say. “Plus, I have you now. What more could I ask for?”
He nods gently. “I guess.. You make a good point. I'm sorry, I think I was just missing my family a bit more than usual recently.”
I tilt my head at him, giving him a sad smile. “I know they're looking over you, too.”
He gives me a small smile back. “Thanks, love. I appreciate that.”
“Of course, Alex.”
Timeskip brought to you by The Owl House (yes, I’m rewatching… again)
School was almost over, which meant I was at school a lot more. Or at least, I was supposed to be. I’m not going to lie, I’ve had to skip a few more classes than normal just to keep up work as Hyperion.
Though, Cyclone still hasn’t shown up in a while, it’s got me a bit on edge.
School ending soon means Alex has been working a lot more recently, too. He’s trying to get as many hours in as possible before all the summer interns come in and take up said hours.
I did manage to go to class today, though, as I knew attendance was a big part of the grade for this one. On my way back from class, I had the strangest feeling that something was wrong. I don’t know what it could have been, but something just felt.. Off.
When I got home, though, I quickly understood what I was feeling.
When I opened the door to my apartment, I saw that everything was thrown about. The cushions were off the couch, every cupboard was wide open with dishes lining up the shelves and even some on the floor. Everything was everywhere. Someone broke into the apartment.
My first instinct was to check on the gemstone. I knew it wouldn’t be safe in the apartment for long, but I hadn’t found anywhere else to put it yet. It has only been a couple weeks after all.
I reach my closet and slowly open it, grabbing the shoe box from the top shelf. When I open it up, I am not met with a bright glow, but rather a note instead.
Did you really think I wouldn’t find this?
Stay out of my business, or next time
your apartment isn’t the only thing I destroy.
CYCLONE
I don’t know how, but he found the gem. He had another gem. He’s that much closer to completing the box.
Not only that, but he could know where I live now. Maybe he doesn’t think Hyperion lives here, but he knows someone who knows about the gems lives here. He could come back. He could come after Alex.
Oh my god, Alex.
I have to call him, let him know what happened. I quickly run to the other room and grab my phone, clicking his contact.
I don’t know how Cyclone found the gem, but I do know I will not let anything bad happen to Alex.
