Illusions (Free x Reader)

Okay, I'm finally back y'all. I've missed writing, but school and work and tennis have been so much for me lately. This is gonna be some kind of angst one-shot because I've never done them before. Oh, and I know the sentences are short and choppy, but it gives the effect that I want.

I honestly don't know who requested this. Sorry

Your POV

You giggle as your boyfriend, Free, hugs you from behind. He laughs with you as he picks you up and spins you around. You smile and kiss him once on the lips as he places you back down.

"Free, stop it!" You say, giggling as he wraps his arms around you again. He smiles slightly and places a lazy kiss on your lips.

"Sorry, Y/n, I can't help it. You're just too cute," he replies. You smile at him and kiss him back.

__

That was weeks ago. The two of you were so happy back then. Free wanted to spend every second with you. The two of you were never apart from each other. But now, you think he's getting bored of hanging out with you. He seems to be spending less and less time around you each day.

You don't understand what has changed. You're still the same person, he's still the same guy. But is he though?

__

You sit down on the park bench next to Free. The two of you sit in silence. You had asked him to come out on a date with you. The two of you barely hung out together anymore. After a few more minutes of silence, you ask,

"Free, did I do something to you?" He turns his head and looks at you, a tired look in his eyes.

"No, why?" He asks. You take a deep breath and prepare to answer. Free continues to stare at you, but you can tell that he's not very worked up about it. After another deep breath, you say,

"I don't know. It seems like you never want to hang out with me anymore. We used to-"

"We're hanging out right now, aren't we?" Free interrupts. You can hear the anger in his voice as he asks the question. You feel your eyes fill with tears.

"Yes, but. . ."

"But nothing. We're hanging out together right now, Y/n." Free pauses and looks at his phone, checking the time, before continuing, "I don't have time for this. You're not making any sense." Free stands up and walks off, adding a quick 'I'll see you later' as he leaves. You stare at the ground and see wet spots forming in the dirt. After reaching up and touching your face, you realize that you're crying. The empty feeling in your chest, your loneliness, seems to be growing and growing with each passing day.

But then you think about Free. The warm feeling, your love, fills your chest instead. You cry more, letting out heaves as the tears stream down your face. Your head is filled with thoughts about the whole situation. And, of course, this leads to more and more tears. You continue to cry until you can't anymore.

Why does my heart still want this so bad?

What's changed between the two of us?

Will things ever go back to the way they were?

__

The next week at school passes with the same actions every day. You catch up with Free, the two of you walk next to each other, both silent. You don't hold hands, he doesn't hug you from behind, and neither of you smile. The same thing, the same treatment, and the same empty feeling in your chest.

__

"What's going on between you and Free?" Shasa asks you. You put on a fake smile and reply,

"What do you mean? We're as happy as ever." Your chest aches. Even your body knows that you're lying. Shasa looks unsure about your answer, but she doesn't question you any further. You take a deep breath. This is going to be harder than you thought. You take another deep breath and exhale slowly as you see Free walk by the table. Your eyes meet his, but neither of you say anything.

__

The week after that, a new girl transfers to your school. Free is nearby her at all times. Your heart aches every time you see them with each other.

She comes up to you and introduces herself.

"Hi! My name's Kristina Kuroda! What's yours?" She smiles brightly and you reply quietly,

"Y/n L/n." She smiles and then turns to Free, who's right next to her.

"Free, have you met Y/n?" Free smiles at Kristina but then looks at you and his smile fades.

"Yeah, we know each other." He looks back at Kristina and you notice the way that he does so. He's too close to her, he's smiling way too much, but he's ignoring you just the same as always.

"Free and I have known each other since we were little. I never thought I'd see him again, but here he is!" Kristina exclaims. Joy radiates off of her. You can see why Free likes her better than you. She's prettier, she smiles more, and she giggles and teases him the same way that you used to.

"We'd better go. I want to introduce Kris to some of my other friends," Free says, dragging her along with him. She says goodbye and then walks off with your boyfriend, leaving you all alone.

__

One week later, you stumble across a scene that you were never meant to see. Free and Kristina are standing in the library, Kristina against the wall. Free is kissing her on the lips as she runs her hands through his hair. You freeze, unable to move or speak. After a few seconds, they both pull away and Kristina whispers something in Free's ear. He laughs and kisses her quickly once more. Then, his eyes meet yours. For a second, they're full of panic, but it quickly fades. You feel tears streaming down your face as you continue looking at him. He looks away, places an arm around Kristina and they leave.

__

You watch as they walk down the halls together, hand-in-hand. You watch them as they sit together at lunch, talking and talking to one another. You watch as Free hugs her from behind, as he picks her up and spins her around, and as he laughs and smile while she giggles.

You watch as you are completely replaced in Free's life.

You watch, but you don't say a thing.

A/N- Gosh, this was sad. I'm sorry guys, but nonetheless, I hope you enjoyed this chapter.
