The only reason Lui is harsh and reckless is because he's been through a lot.

- His father started hitting him and once cut his arm with a knife
- He became depressed at age 10
- Still tried to remain positive
- He was like Valt and looked up to Free
- Was crushed when he lost to Free and let his team and friends down
- Gou helped make a new team but Lui was already changing
- He sometimes thinks he wants to die but doesn't want to leave Longinus behind

He's broken and fell in love with a girl who had eyes for Kurenai Shu. That's when the hatred began growing.

Lui still had a small strong of hope when Longinus was broken, just like Spriggan.
