Italics: Flashback
~~~
Nika, or as the Beyblade world dubbed, "The Masked Lady" sat in her small training room, watching her Bey whirl around in circles in the stadium. Although she wasn't nervous- she knew she would win against Valt, she was a bit scared.
Nika started out this journey with one mission: to rid the Beyblade world of its misogyny. She noticed that if she battled as Nika Aoi, she got comments like: "Oh look it's Valt's sister!" and stuff like that.
Even when she was exercising with the Bey Club, she'd get teased for wearing a tank top and shorts.
A TANK TOP AND SHORTS.
Slut-shaming much?
Of course, she got shamed for wearing shorts to a battle, so Nika apparently "had to" change to leggings or pants with a longer shirt so the boys wouldn't be "distracted". This was literally the same thing as her getting punished for showing her shoulders at school. Stupid and insane.
If Silas Karlisle could wear no shirt and get away with it, then Nika should be able to wear shorts and a shoulder-showing top.
And of course, there's going to be those annoying boys who shame Nika for just eating an extra piece of bread from Toko's lunch. Honestly, there was no respect, at all for girls.
In this male-dominated sport, Nika has seen great female Bladers fall.
Kris, Shasa, Ichika, and now Raina, have all fell from their podiums of Beyblading, and into obscurity.
Nika was hell-bent on making sure that didn't happen to her, so she trained every single day, as hard as any Legend.
She'd run all over town every day, do pull-ups, volunteer for every heavy-lifting job her mom needed.
Every single tournament, she won with a veil on, and a megaphone.
Of course, with the misogyny, Nika had to bring the attention back to the battle. More or less the megaphone was a helper if the ref or Hanami ignored her.
Legend after legend she beat.
Her first important battle was with Ranjiro Kiyama, and boy did that kickstart her career.
"And now, for a battle, you were waiting for... Ranjiro Kiyama versus... THE MASKED LADY!"
Loud clapping quickly filled Nika's ears as she fixed her white veil, and looked down at her bey, her partner.
Nymph.
"We'll crush this, and soon we'll be number 1," Nika vowed, before walking to Ranjiro, adopting her "Masked Blader" voice. "Ranjiro Kiyama. It's a pleasure to battle you."
"You as well. Say, how about we have a deal. If I win, you take off your mask. If you win, you get to be my training partner. How about it?" Ranjiro asked, taking out his comb and brushing his hair.
"Lovely deal, but I'll pass on it. I only wish to reveal my face after I battle- and defeat Valt." Nika declared.
"Woah what a declaration from our Masked Lady! Let's see if she can follow up on her promise! Of course, it's a miracle that she made it this far, but what a cool girl she is! Isn't she folks! Defeating the Bladers must be no easy feat, but somehow she did it!"
"I did it, with relentless training," Nika said.
"Yeah, yeah, just battle me and stop complaining. We'll see who's the best here." Ranjiro yelled, the classic Kiyama arrogance flowing through his veins.
The referee jumped, before nodding. "First battle!"
"We have Glide Roktavor, a Stamina Type bey, versus Purity Nymph, a Balance Type! It'll be tough for a girl like her to beat this powerhouse, but let's see! Isn't it so fun that girl Bladers like her are starting to battle! If she'd show her face, I believe she'd be a heartbreaker, huh boys?"
Nika frowned "For the record, I am a lesbian! I. Like. Girls."
"Ooh, there she goes! What a heartbreaker! Such a pretty and mysterious girl, turns out to be a lesbian! How tragic!"
Nika said nothing but got ready, in her launching position, as Ranjiro, surprised by Nika's outburst, seemed to be in deep thought, before preparing himself to launch.
"Ready... set!"
"3! 2! 1!"
"LET IT... RIP!"
Needless to say, Nika won with two Ring-Out Finishes.
Apparently, Hanami "Couldn't believe it" and that it probably had been a fluke, to which the referee, bless him, said it wasn't. So Nika left, amidst the arguing, and began her walk back home, of course as Nika.
Bless the Bey Club and the Wild Bey Gang, they didn't know that Nika was the one battling. Of course, Gumita had her suspicions, but Nika quickly shut them down.
Next was Fubuki, Suoh, then Toko, then Hyuga Hizashi, and Hikaru Hizashi.
Although Nika won those battles, she couldn't quite remember them as clearly as her battle with Ranjiro, and the other Legends.
She did remember, however, that Hyuga tried to unmask her. He cleverly shook her hand, before trying to grab the veil, but Nika stopped him.
Fubuki definitely had his suspicions about her, along with Suoh, and they'd have long conversations with her, Ranjiro, and Toko about the identity of the Masked Lady.
Of course, Toko knew who she was, along with Valt and her mom, but they knew to keep a secret. She was quite glad when she beat Toko, not just because she was one step closer to her goal, but it was the first time Nika beat Toko with a crowd watching. This time, they had cameras to prove it.
Her match with Daigo Kurogami was quick, with Daigo simply stating that: "No matter how much you train, your journey will end here."
That match was a tough match, and after many draws, Nika won with a close Survivor Finish, which Hanami took to be good luck, but Nika wasn't listening.
Her blood was boiling.
She was not on level with the Legends, and she made sure she was the next time, training relentlessly for her next battle with Rantaro Kiyama.
Thankfully he wasn't as annoying as Cap'n, but he did brag. A lot.
Classic Honcho.
She won before Roktavor had any traction in the stadium, thankfully.
Next was Wakiya.
He continuously threatened Nika to unveil herself.
But she won as well.
By now, Hanami was slowly believing that this was Nika's talent, that she was worth it.
But after one ring-out finish from Zac, he immediately changed back to the flukes and luck.
Traitorous bastard.
Nika trained every day, knocking down Legend after Legend, with her partner.
Some might say she paid them to lose, but if you asked by of the Legends, they'd say that the Masked Lady was a strong Blader and that they hoped to see who was under it soon.
Nika was glad her talent was recognized by the Legends, if only after she humbled them by beating them.
Lane Valhalla was especially a hard one to sway.
"In this battle, there are only Burst Finishes. Let's test out your luck then." Lane challenged Nika, who, before, had only won with Ring Out and Survivor Finishes.
"Alright. Bring it." Nika said, her pearly pink resonance flaring up inside her.
After almost 18 battles, with Ring Outs and close Bursts and Simultaneous Bursts, Lucius burst a split second before Nymph.
"Good game, Masked Lady." Lane gruffly said, shaking Nika's hand.
"You too, Lane Valhalla," Nika replied, smiling underneath her veil, before leaving.
Her battle with Lui was also a hard one. Lui, thankfully knew her talent from the beginning, somehow.
Lui was a strange person.
"Hey, Masked Lady. I'm glad you reached this level. I can see you've trained a lot to get here, but your journey ends right here."
"Many have said that, but none succeeded," Nika said blandly.
Lui smiled, his shark teeth showing. "Oh, but this'll be a promise. Don't back out."
Nika won by using Luinor's strength against him with a quick Burst Finish.
Lui only laughed loudly, before walking away, most likely returning to his island to train.
Beating Aiger the same way as Lui was simple. Nika knew Aiger personally. He'd charge in with everything he got, and that would be his downfall.
Nika trained tirelessly for the moment, so she could speed up at a moment's notice.
Her new move was called "River Rapids". It seemed like a girly name at first, but Nika liked it.
If she was to win, she would do it with feminity on her side.
She already had a big group of supporters, calling themselves: "Girls of the Masked Lady"
She felt great.
But she couldn't get too confident.
She found out from Valt that Aiger was preparing to beat her as well.
"Yeah, we held a meeting, the Legends and us. We're trying to figure out who's the Masked Lady. Of course, I knew but I didn't tell! It was funny though, they really have no idea. You did well Nika!" Valt happily said, chewing on multiple pieces of bread. "Oh yeah, Aiger says that he's going to try to beat you."
"Just like him. Don't worry. I'll win, and face off with you and take your title." Nika said.
"Well, you have to get through Aiger, Free, and Shu first! Man, my little sister's so cool!"
"Yeah, Nika! I've been noticing a lot of female bladers now, and they say you inspired them to join! It's a revolution!" Toko added.
"Alright kids, now eat your food. Nika has a big battle to get ready for." Chiharu ordered. With a quick "Yes mom!" they ate their food and went to sleep.
"Miss Masked Lady?" A supervisor says, knocking on the door. "It's time."
"Thank you," Nika says, standing up and walking to the elevator, where she'd go to battle.
She was, quite literally a mess of nerves. Nika took a deep breath, and composed herself, standing in front of the elevator as she waited for Hanami to announce their battle.
Beating Aiger was no easy feat. True to Nika's word, he did come charging in, but Nika could never land a hit on him, or burst him, until that one moment.
She noticed that Achilles always slows down before a quick turn, which was the optimal time to strike.
So on the 2nd battle, the 1st ending in a Survivor Finish by Aiger, she took that chance, Nymph ramming Achilles into the wall and Bursting him.
Boy, was that a hard battle.
Battling Free and Shu was even harder.
Free was talented, and Nika knew better than to attack him head-on, lest she accidentally burst herself.
That would be terrible, and embarrassing.
She was at a big block for ideas, until she came across old footage of Free and Joshua's battle in the International Blader's Cup.
"Yeah, this'll work." Nika smiled to herself, looking at Joshua's strategy.
Free wouldn't know what hit him... hopefully.
Unless he actually remembers every single battle he's been in.
Which would be extremely bad for Nika, but she can do it... right?
The elevator turned green and opened, indicating Nika was okay to step in and ascend to the arena. She couldn't stop jumping around, her veil almost falling off her head, before Nika quickly fixed it, making sure the material covered her entire face.
She wasn't 100% sure how she could see in the veil, when no one could really tell who she was, but it worked, so Nika never questioned it.
When it was her battle with Free, she employed that technique, and thankfully caught Free off guard and took the first point.
The next time, Free went on the offensive and immediately attacked Nymph, sending the bey flying out of the stadium in a Ring Out Finish.
The next battle ended in a Survivor Finish, with Nymph stopping a split second after Fafnir.
Nika really was the queen of close calls.
After that, was Shu's battle against her.
Needless to say it was a wild ride.
Both he and Nika gave it all they got, ending the match with multiple simultaneous bursts or ring outs until Nika finally won.
And still, some people were saying it was a fluke.
After that battle, Nika publicly challenged Valt Aoi, before getting bombarded by interviewers as she walked out of the elevator.
"Is there anything you would like to say to the WBBA about your recent success?"
"Who are you under that mask?"
"Are you paying the Bladers to let you win?"
"During the first few battles, you were wearing shorts. Was it because you were purposefully trying to distract the male blader so you could win?"
"Now that you've been approved as a real Blader by everyone, including the Legends, how does it make you feel?"
"Why have you started playing a boy's sport, instead of doing something else, like making a sandwich?"
Nika frowned, the misogynic questions floating around.
"Stop! First of all, I do not pay those Bladers to purposefully lose. I pour my heart and soul out into this sport, and there is no reason that I should be making a sandwich, when I can do what I love to do.
Second of all, why are you saying that I wore those shorts to distract my opponent? Silas Karslie, Laban Vanot, Gabe Brunai, and Ghasem Madal can wear no shirt and get away with it. Why is that I show my legs and suddenly it's a bad thing? Katana Sakaki has more rips in his jeans that I've ever seen, and I think that Xavier Bogard's shorts also show legs. Isn't that distracting? Arthur Peregrine, Gwyn Reynolds, and Kyle Hakim are literally wearing spandex, and Fumiya Kindo's outfit is literally sponsored by McDonalds. There's Free De La Hoya's extremely loose shirt and Fubuki's latex shirt, and Suoh Genji's magenta skinny jeans. Also, Rantaro Kiyama holds literal BOOKS in his belt and a loose top. Need I say more? I think a simple light pink t-shirt and white linen shorts are not distracting, unless the Blader is wondering who I am under this veil.
Every single outfit I wore was disapproved by the WBBA. My shoulder-showing shirt with jean shorts? Nope, too distracting. My sleeveless top with the same pair of shorts? Too much arm! My long sleeved top with the same jean shorts. Too much leg! The way my hair was styled? Too distracting and apparently seductive!?! Sandals? Too much ankle! My white linen shorts? Apparently it's too short? Who's looking? My eyes are up here! Apparently my veil has to cover my upperarms and I can't show any leg?
Finally, I will not be revealing who I am until I beat Valt Aoi, and before that happens, I will be training my ass off to beat him. I will be training every day for it, and devising strategies. I don't need anyone's validation to play this sport. Once I officially joined competitive Beyblade, I was, and still am a 'Real Blader'. I do not need any sort of male validation just because I am a girl. I am a real Blader, and I will be taking the number 1 spot, without anyone telling me what I can't or can do. I'm highly disappointed that Beyblade is targeted to be a boy's sport, when anyone can play the sport, as long as they are passionate about it. What's this bullshit about 'Beyblade! The dream of young boys everywhere.' Beyblade is my dream as well, and I intend on making it a reality."
And with that final note, Nika left the reporters, not to return until her battle against Valt Aoi. Her brother.
Nika steps out of the platform, taking a quick look around the stadium. The Legends, Bey Club, Bey Gang, Victories, Comets, and almost everyone relevant to the Beyblade world is here.
"And now, for the Legend of Legends, our Wonder Boy, the number one Blader... Valt Aoi!"
The stands immediately erupt into chaos as Valt, her older brother ascends to the stage and walks toward me.
"Give it all you've got, Masked Lady, cause I will be as well!" Valt declares.
"Ready... set!"
"3! 2! 1!"
"Let it... rip!" They yell, and both of their Bey's fly in the stadium.
"It's the long-awaited battle against The Masked Lady and Valt Aoi, and Valtryek dives in for a strike, and Nymph dodges! What a lucky strike!" Hanami begins commentating.
Nika frowns, but regains focus. Valtryek's a tough opponent, which means she has to really focus on the battle in front of her.
It ends in a simultaneous Burst.
And another.
And another.
And another.
"5th battle."
"The tension's rising up and it's so thick you can cut it through with a butter knife! It's been a long road guys, but let's see if it's the end of the line for our Masked Lady!" Hanami says.
Nika clenched her fist on her pink launcher. This will not be the end. She's going to be the winner. That's what her goal was and is.
"Val-t! Val-t!" The stadium starts yelling Valt's name in his support as Valt smiles good-naturedly and waves, before preparing to launch.
"Ready... set!"
"3! 2! 1!"
"Let it... rip!"
"Both Beys are in the ring and are now attacking like there's no tomorrow! Sparks are flying! This is intense!"
"Go Valtryek! Send 'em flying with Brave Sword!" Valt yells, but Nika had other ideas.
"Go Nymph! Use Nature's Defense!" Nika yells, making Valtryek fly towards the wall.
"Let's try again partner! Brave Sword!"
"Don't give them the chance! Use Shooting Star!" Nika yells, and Nymph quickly shot forward and knocks into Valtryek, turning all of Brave Sword's attack power on itself and bursting it in one quick go.
Silence. That was all she got.
"oh. OH. OH MY GOD! THE MASKED LADY HAS DEFEATED THE VALT AOI! RECIEVING THE NEW NUMBER ONE TITLE IS THE MASKED LADY! THAT WAS NOT A FLUKE! Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm pretty sure that's a Burst Finish!"
"Purity Nymph with a Burst Finish! With a score of 2-0, The Masked Lady is the winner!"
Still silence.
"Good game, Masked Lady." Valt smiles, offering a hand to shake.
Nika smiles, before grabbing the end of the veil and officially unveiling herself. "Nika Aoi, at your service. And you're damn right I did."
"Oh my god. Are you seeing this! The Masked Lady has shown her identity to be none other than Nika Aoi, Valt's little sister!" Hanami's voice reverbated through the stands, through all of the people's surprised faces.
"God, it's brutal out here." Nika smirks, before throwing the veil away and leaving the stage.
But then, as she left, Kristina Kuroda slowly stood up and starts clapping.
Then Shasa and Honey Guten.
Gumita... Ichika...
Every single female Blader starts standing up and clapping, cheering wildly.
"You showed him!"
"Let's go! Girl power!"
"Yeah Nika! You showed those guys what's up!"
"Let's go!"
Needless to say, The Masked Lady, or should Nika say... Nika Aoi was proud of herself.
