"I'm Sorry"

So uh.

I'm sorry y'all are going to hate me for what I'm about to do.

also, this was inspired by an idea by the lovely, TessaStark1, otherwise know as Honey had. We had a longgggg talk about this on Discord- it also contains some of her writing as well.

It all started when Suoh and Fubuki played Uno- I'm just kidding haha.

What this is: A soulmate AU, where you have a ring(s) with a stone that's a certain color, and whoever has a stone that matches yours is your soulmate. But when your soulmate dies the ring turns black and crumbles to dust.

"Flight Number 747 of Beigoma Airlines has just crashed, due to extreme weather cases, and the engine failing. All members of the flight are declared dead, the most notable being Dante Koryu, Legendary Blader, and Pride of the Victories, including his immediate family."

The water that Valt Aoi was holding crashed to the ground.

Dante... No. That's not happening right? Not Dante!

Valt barely heard the sound of his phone ringing, and he could barely remember taking it.

"Did you... Did you see the news?" Shu's voice asks, calmly, but Valt knew his best friend was shaking so badly that everything went dizzy for him.

"Yeah." Valt nods.

"What are supposed to do?" This time it was Lui. No snappy remarks. No "Fuck you Kurenai" today. This Lui was a Lui Valt seriously never thought would ever come out. His voice was shaking so badly. A sound came from behind him, and Lui's voice could be heard. "Suoh. Fubuki. Did you? No? Okay. Um. I need Fubuki to go back home. Now. Suoh Genji Shiro- Okay? Good."

"Fubuki's coming back home?" Shu asks.

"Yeah. Valt. I'm sorry. For your loss." Lui says.

"It's. It's-. Thank you." Valt didn't know what to say.

"Valt? You want me to come over?" This time it was Shu.

"No. I- You should be with Delta. Same with you Lui. Be with Gwyn. Bye." Valt pressed the "End Call" button and set down his phone, shaking.

A small drop of water fell on Valt's pant leg. No. That wasn't water.

It was tears. And more of them were coming. Tear after tear, Valt started crying. Bundling himself up in a position where his arms covered his head, to cover those tears.

The door opened, and Aiger found Valt, a father-figure, on the ground, crying.

"Da- Valt- Screw it. Dad. What's wrong?" Aiger questions, crouching down. "Aren't you supposed to pick up Dante from the airport or something?"

"Ai-Aig-Aiger. I don't think. I don't think Dante's going to come back."

"What do you mean?"

"Aiger. Dante's not coming back. He's... gone to a better place."

"You mean he's dead." Aiger was slowly getting it, but he really did want to. A wonderful day, spending time with his boyfriend, and now he gets the news that his brother's dead? No.

"I'm. I'm sorry, Aiger." Valt says, taking in Aiger for a hug. Aiger latched onto him tightly and began crying. Why Dante? Aiger thought. Why him?

"Hey dad, why is Gwyn crying?" Suoh asks, coming downstairs. Lui stopped whatever he was making.

"Nothing. Suoh. Here, I'll go check on him." Lui says. He really did hate lying to Suoh, but he thought that that piece of information should be told to him later.

"Alright," Suoh says although he didn't really believe that his dad was telling the truth. "I'll be in my greenhouse."

Lui slowly walked up the stairs, knocking on his second child's bedroom door. Setting his ear on the mahogany door, he could hear the slightly muffled sounds of Gwyn's crying.

"Gwyn? Can I come in?" Lui asks. He didn't hear a response so he opened the door, and left it open. Like every parent did. "Gwyn. Math nerd. Um, sorry. Uh, my second son, nevermind. Gwyn, are you okay?"

"No? WHY ARE YOU ASKING THAT? MY RING! ONE OF THEM SHRIVELED UP! IT'S GONE!" Gwyn cries, clutching the blankets and throwing them over him.

"Um-" Lui seriously needed to work on his communication skills.

A ping from Gwyn's phone made a small hand quickly grab it. Lui could only wait for his reaction.

Gwyn started crying even more. "IT'S DANTE? NO. WHY? WHY CAN'T HAVE IT BEEN ME?"

A pot shattered on the ground. "Dante's what?"

"Suoh-" Lui turned around to see his first child on the doorway, with a surprised face, and the remnants of a potted plant at his feet. "What-"

"I wanted to give Gwyn Larry the succulent because he was sad, and I found that Larry helps me be not sad, and now I know Dante's dead and- Oh my god I dropped Larry." Suoh's head went up and down, looking at the pot that once held Larry the succulent and then back at Gwyn.

"Um." Lui seriously needed some communication classes.

Right as Valt ended the call, Shu was faced with Delta staring at the TV screen with wide eyes, tears already leaking out.

Delta slowly stared down at his finger, which only held one dull ring, the other, representing Dante faded into dust already. "I was. I was trying to cook food, and I just noticed this, and I come into here and-" Delta was interrupted by a pair of strong arms engulfing him, before patting him gently on the head. Shu's touch... it was like a father's, and before Delta knew it, he was bawling his eyes out like a baby.

"Mint Chocolate." This time it was Fubuki wrapping his arms around Delta, while Shu started hugging both of them. "What's wrong?"

"D-d-d." Delta started hiccuping, making the words harder to form.

"Dante's dead." Shu curtly replies. Fubuki froze in his spot, before hugging Delta just a tad bit tighter as if Delta was going to go next.

"I'm sorry Delta." Fubuki whispers.

The next few years were hard. Not just on the Aoi, Shirosagi, and Kurenai family, but especially on Gwyn and Delta's relationship.

During Dante's burial, they held hands and cried together. But now? It really wasn't the same.

Star-gazing, baking together, cuddling? Not the same.

Delta couldn't remember the last time he'd seen Gwyn smile. He missed that.

Gwyn couldn't remember the last time he'd seen Delta smile or go OwO. He missed that.

Valt went numb after Dante's burial, but after a few pep talks from his friends, he finally cracked a smile. Dante would have wanted it. Valt had thought, walking into BC Sol for the first time in a few months, shocking many people. Dante would have wanted me to keep Blading.

Lui also went numb. He hated seeing Gwyn like that, and when someone came up to him, he always half expected them to ask him something, while also using Dante as a reason. But every time he was reminded that Dante was gone. Forever. Not coming back, until he died as well.

Shu didn't know what to do. He tried his best to comfort Delta, but man, he missed when Delta would smile after coming back home at an ungodly hour of time. He missed his rants about how adorable Dante and Gwyn were when they did this and that. He missed his happy son.

Suoh and Fubuki got closer, treasuring the time they had together. Because what if they ended up like their siblings? What if their rings just vanished somehow? What they suddenly had to go, without saying good bye?

Delta wanted Gwyn to smile. He always noticed that whatever Dante did, would make Gwyn smile. So, maybe... just maybe, if he acted a bit more like Dante, maybe... just maybe... Gwyn would be happier.

This went on for about 2 more months, until Gwyn finally had enough of it.

I want you to smile your smile, Delta. I don't want you to act like Dante. It just makes the pain worse. Just. Stop. Acting. Like. Him. We can talk it out. It was my fault that he died. Stop bearing the burden of making me happy.

What did come out of Gwyn mouth, wasn't anything like what Gwyn had in mind. "I'm fed up alright! Stop acting like him! You could never be him! Just get out! Get out of my sight!"

Delta's eyes widen, taking a step back. Every word. Every word felt like hot knives slashing his chest, to the point where he couldn't breathe. Why was... Why was his world going blurry?

Wait. He was crying. Hot tears leaked down his face, his bottom lip quivered. "If. If that's what you want."

Gwyn held out a hand, staring at Delta's retreating figure. Why did he say that? He loved Delta. Why did he say that? Why was he so stupid?

When Delta came back home without greeting Shu or Fubuki, they knew something was wrong. For an entire week, Delta would avoid them, avoid their pounding on the door, ignore any attempts at making conversation. The Victories tried to comfort him, telling him that Gwyn didn't mean it, and to just come out and talk to them.

If he didn't mean it, then why hasn't he contacted me? Delta thought, staring at his phone. If he didn't mean it, we've would have talked it out. Maybe... Maybe he really wants me gone. Maybe if I just ended it all, Gwyn would be happy. I'd be happy. I'd see Dante again.

Dante. I'll be there soon. Delta's head slowly turned to his closet, where a plethora of old clothes sat.

Gwyn sat in his room, trying to muster up some sort of courage to text Delta, to show him that he cared, until a baby blue colored ring on Gwyn's finger that represented Delta turned black and faded away.

"Delta?" Gwyn whispers, his eyes widening. He jumped up, running into the hallway, running to the Kurenai house. "Delta's not dead! HE'S NOT DEAD!"

Fubuki realized the door to Delta's bedroom wasn't locked, as he opened the door. "Delta! Happy birthday Mint. I'm glad your-"

He was met with Delta's blank red eyes staring back at him. Delta had fashioned a noose from a bunch of his clothes, and hanging himself from a nail on his ceiling. His body turned in a 360, so every now and then Fubuki could see his baby brother's eyes stare at him.

"Delta... DELTA!" Fubuki cries, grabbing a pair of scissors from Delta's desk and frantically cutting the noose. Delta's body fell on the chair he kicked over, eyes blank, and not seeing. "Delta please wake up! Delta don't leave, please! I need you! Dad needs you! Gwyn needs you! Everyone needs you!"

Fubuki's cries alerted Shu, who ran into Delta's room, finding a sobbing Fubuki on the ground, clutching a dead Delta. Shu quickly took out his phone, calling 911, before taking his fingers and closing Delta's eyes, so that it looked as if he was just sleeping. Of course he was sleeping. Delta wouldn't leave them that easily. Shu thought to himself.

Delta was dead. He was far beyond any saving, as Gwyn arrived at the house just as the paramedics rolled out Delta's body on a strecher.

Delta Zakuro/Kurenai died right on his birthday. He was buried next to Dante.

If only I died. Delta and Dante would have lived. They would have gotten along without me. I was just a extra variable in their equation.

Gwyn locked himself in his room after Delta's death. Why should he go outside? Why should he enjoy himself, while it was all his fault that the two people he loved more than anything in the world were dead. It didn't make sense. Why was the world so cruel to him?

Gwyn wouldn't answer the door for anyone. Even Lui's half-hearted attempts at breaking the door open didn't work.

He felt... Alone.

That's how he used to feel. And then, they showed up, they waltzed right into his life, tearing down the walls he had worked so hard to build. His love for them was immeasurable, they were his two most precious treasures. Dante, his ray of light, always finding a way to make him smile, and Delta, his rock, always keeping him grounded when he felt like he was drifting away. Now that they were gone, he was alone. A feeling that he hadn't felt in years, it hit him like a wave of nostalgia, calling his name as he remembered the nights he used to spend by himself. And now? He would have to go back to his old life, one without Dante and Delta. He would have to go back to being, alone.

Being alone felt suffocating. How in the world did his past self survive without Dante and Delta? Maybe. Just maybe... Delta had the right idea. Gwyn's fuschia eyes traveled over to a pocket knife that was sitting on his dresser. Maybe...

No. Gwyn quickly pulled his hand back. He wouldn't cause pain anymore. Gwyn had seen Fubuki at Delta's funeral. His eyes were glossed over, his mouth in a frown. Not even Suoh's whispers in his ear could make him crack a smile. He didn't want that to happen to Suoh.

And Lui... Lui had distanced himself from everyone, because he was so scared that Gwyn would do the same thing as Delta.

Gwyn already had caused pain to one. He didn't want to cause anymore pain.

But just one quick slash, and it'll be over. A voice says. Just one quick slash, and you can see Delta and Dante. Say that your sorry. Tell them that you love them.

Gwyn stared at the journal next to the pocket knife. If he was going to die, he was going to tell the entire story of why he did it. He wouldn't leave anyone hanging.

It took almost 2 days to write it out, as Gwyn had to stop and wipe his tears away every minute. But it was worth it, because when he put that journal on his dresser, and picked up the pocket knife, slashing his own throat, Gwyn had a smile on his face. He was going to see Delta and Dante again.

Two gentle hands- Were they the hands of death? Caressed his face, whispering for him to close his eyes. So he did. He didn't know why, but he liked this person. Whoever they were. When he woke up, there they were. Dante, smiling as always, and Delta, making an OwO face.

"Delta... Dante..." Gwyn whispers, tears filling up his eyes. Gwyn ran towards them, hugging them tightly, because, Oh god. They were there. He was hugging them. "I'm sorry! I'm so sorry Delta!"

"I'm sorry too, Gwyn." Delta says, tucking a strand of hair behind Gwyn's ear. "But it's fine now. We're together again."

"Yeah! We've been waiting for you!" Dante nods, his smile adorning his features.

"Yeah." Gwyn nods. "I love you guys."

"We love you too, Gwyn!" Dante and Delta say simultaneously, before holding hands together, and walking into the bright light that was the afterlife.

"The ending. Was that real Dad?" A young boy with green eyes stared up at his father.

"We don't know. I think it is, at least." The father of these 3 children, Fubuki smiles.

"Then again it could have gone super different." Suoh says, bending down to kiss his husband.

"Ewww!" A blonde boy wrinkled his nose. "Gross. You guys are kissing!"

"You're going to do it with your soulmate soon." A white-haired boy comments, pointing at his brother's ring.

Fubuki and Suoh had 3 kids from a surrogate mother. Dante, Delta, and Gwyn. Naming them after 3 people they wished had more time on Earth, and they were the light of their life.

"Was this a true story?" Dante, the boy with the green eyes asks.

"As true as it could be." Suoh says, patting his head.

"I don't want a soulmate!" Delta, the blonde boy, wails. "I don't wanna die!"

"Stupid! You aren't going to die when you get a soulmate!" Gwyn shook his head, slapping his brother. Delta's lip quivered.

"Gwyn. Don't hit your brother, that's not nice." Fubuki scolds.

"Sorry." Gwyn says.

"But I think it's time to go to bed." Fubuki says, looking at the clock. "It's late."

"Night dads!" The 3 chorus, and ran upstairs.

"You think they're happy up there?" Suoh questions.

"Yeah. I think so." Fubuki nods, smiling.
