“The sky only needs one star.”

“The sky must be pretty dark then.”

-°-

You smiled at him, observing as he continued to practice his lunch for what seemed like hundredth time today.

“You sure you don't wanna take a break? You seem exhausted.” You said though honestly who wouldn't, he'd been practicing for what seemed like hours, anyone would need a break by then well unless your were Free but he was practically a beast so. . .

“I'm fine.” He said through his teeth, not even making eye contact as his eyes kept steady on the arena.

You hummed in suspicion.

“If you kept working yourself like this your gonna get injured.” You informed him.

He froze in his tracks, hope began setting into your stomach feeling that you finally managed to talk some sense into him but that hope quickly went away as he snapped his head in your direction; a look of anger and frustration written all across his face as his dark crimson eyes glared at you.

“I never asked for your opinion.” He all but sneered at you.

You returned his glare. “I'm just trying to look out for you.” You muttered calmly trying to reason with him.

“I never asked you to.”

“You don't have to, I'm your friend. I care about you--”

“We are not friends so please get the delusion out of your head.” He said before going back towards his training as if to completely ignore you and what he had said mere seconds ago.

Your chest felt heavy, you took a deep breath trying to calm down not wanting let your emotions take control.

“Delta.” You called.

The words he said, his denial of friendship wasn't new he had said them all before yet they still hurt, why wouldn't they? You and him have known each other for years so why is it he couldn't just admit that you we're friends.

He didn't respond, didn't even spare you a glance.

You felt your breath hitch, clenching your fists; you glared at him, turning to your heel you walked away.

-

“So then you-- huh? [name]?”

You looked down at the plate infront of you, nearly empty except for a few peas you continued to roll back and forth with a fork.

“[name]? . . . Hey! [name]!”

You felt a hand to your shoulder, making you glance to your side seeing your friend stare at you with a look that was between worried and annoyed.

“You listening?”

You sighed. “I'm sorry, Drum.
I'm just not feeling so good at the moment.”

“Huh? Do you need anything?!” The blonde shouted, he looked like he was about to sprint to get whatever you needed the second you said something.

You chuckled shaking your head slightly. “No-- just some trouble with Delta.”

Drum furrowed his eyebrows, pursing his lips together.

“What'd he do?”

“Oh-- it's ah nothing really.”

“Did he say something weird again?” Drum asked crossing his arms; he looked at you carefully observing your reactions-- he sighed closing his eyes for a moment.

“Geez, I love the guy but he can say some pretty stupid things at times.”

You felt yourself smile.

“You and him both.”

The blonde looked rather offended, as he narrowed his eyebrows at you, puffing his cheeks slightly he turned away from you.

“Just for that [name], I'm not gonna let you borrow my anime CD's!”

You laughed but then realized he might have been serious. “Wait what?!”

-

You didn't speak to Delta for a while, you saw him in practice of course and crossed paths with him every so often while heading back towards the dormitories but both of you didn't even  acknowledgement each other's existence-- scratch that, he didn't. you kept giving him glances once in a while but he never seemed to look wherever you were.

Maybe this was for the best. If he never thought you were his friend, didn't seem to care what you felt or what you thought, what was reason do you have to keep coming back to him?

You asked yourself that question,
and you just didn't have an answer.

You always considered and appreciated him as a friend and you thought he felt the same way and was just too stubborn to admit it but now you didn't know--  did he ever think of you as a friend or just a nuisance?

Delta had said to you that he considered alot of people to be annoying and somewhat of a nuisance-- you just thought you were an exception.

You tapped your fingers on the wooden desk as you stared out the window.

“[name]!”

“Captain! You're back-- how was the match?”

Valt looked at you flashing his signature smile that you have sworn that could melt the iciest of hearts and opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by--

“Senpai!!”

Oh, Drum's here.

And before you knew it, Your blue haired captain was dragged off by a fanboying blonde.

You chuckled to yourself at the scene but froze as you felt someone take a seat next to you, you didn't even need to see who it was you just knew.

You should have felt angry, after all wasn't all this his fault and yet you turned now fully facing him and you did something you didn't know if it was right at the moment but you still did it anyway, you smiled.

“Hey.”

He took a moment before looking at you.

“Hey.” He repeated.

“Are you gonna start apologizing for being an idiot or should I just walk out now?”

He stared at you for a moment, before gently putting a hand on your shoulder.

“I'm sorry.”

You smiled at him sadly, biting the inside of your cheek.

“And you-- you're my friend.
I didn't know what I was saying back there.”

He said it.

He finally said it.

Your eyes widened slightly, as you quickly then punched him playfully in the shoulder-- harder than what you had intended as he winced a little.

“See was that so hard? Just had to admit it.” You said.

“Well. . ” Delta began, giving you small somewhat playful glare. “If you're gonna punch me everytime i say you're my friend then I'd rather not.”

“Oh, you can say it again. I'm not gonna punch you-- though I'm not saying I'll never punch you, just not right now.”

“Am i supposed to be feel happy about that?”

“Well yeah.”

Delta looked at you, before stifling a laugh and then rolling his eyes.

“You're an annoyance--

that I just can't live without.”

Note: Score for this chapter? -3.5/10

Honestly enjoyed writing this chapter, though I'm not sure if I portrayed Delta correctly ;-; the ending is kinda ehh but it's better than the alternative ones I made.
