Wakiya x Reader (Hunger Games AU; Angst)

In District 7

You stood firm where you were standing. Today was your district's Reaping Day. As always, you wore a cold, emotionless expression on your face, but this time, it didn't only conceal fear.

It concealed sadness and pain.

Flashback to earlier

"Y/n! Tell him today! Before the reaping, or you might never get the chance!" your sister said while dressing for the Reaping. She knew you liked Wakiya, and had told you ever since she found out to tell him or you might never get the chance. But you being yourself, decided to not tell him. After all, you were simply a poor lumberjack, sawing away at trees for a living.

But today, you awoke with a bad feeling, and decided to tell him how you felt. You smiled at your sister, and said, "Alright then! I'll do so, but if I want time, your need to help me with my hair. Is that alright with you?" She nodded eagerly, and pulled out her favorite ribbon, weaving it into your hair. "For good luck," she said.

Once she artfully arranged your hair, you left your small cottage and set out to find Wakiya before the Reaping. After searching for some time, you finally found him

With your friend, Violet Dennslie (if Violet is your name just change it okay? Okay).

"Wakiya, if this is the day I'm taken to the Capitol, I want you to know that I,  I'm in l-love with you," she stuttered, a blush staining her cheeks, and a sad expression on her face.

You prayed God would have mercy on your already beaten heart, but apparently he wasn't feeling generous today. "I love you too, Violet," he said and leaned towards her. Before their lips met, you ran away, tears flooding in your eyes.

You wiped them away. You would have time to cry after the reaping was over. For now, you had a sister to protect.

End of Flashback

The  person drawing the names approached the bowl filled with the girls' names. She swiftly picked a paper and opened it. Everyone in the district held their breath, waiting and hoping they were spared for one more year.

"Violet Dennslie."

Your breath caught in your throat. Violet, this year Violet could die. You heard Wakiya screaming, telling Violet not to step up. But as she walked towards the stage, you acted.

"Violet! Stop! I volunteer! I volunteer!" You ran through the crowd of people and rushed towards her. You stood as firm as the trees you cut down and pushed the terrified girl behind you. "I volunteer as District 7's female tribute," you boldly shouted for all to hear. You could feel everybody's shocked expressions on your back.

The drawer smiled. "Well, if she so eagerly wishes, come on up!" Once you were on the stage, she eagerly chirped, "What's your name dear?"

"Y/n L/n." You answered, monotonous. You wanted to cry, but this wasn't the time. The rest of the Reaping was a blur, you remembered nothing of it. After the show was over, the Peacekepers led you into the Justice Building to say good bye to your loved ones. You watched your mother and sister weep, asking you why you had acted so rashly.

You couldn't answer. You simply told them, "Tell Violet to not make my sacrifice be in vain," and afterwards, you were dragged away to the train.

Away, to your demise.

(Timeskip)

This was it. Today was the first day of the 64th Annual Hunger Games. The Careers tried to break you.

You beat them down.

The desperate tried to fool you.

You pushed them away.

Your stylist had been very kind to you, going as far as to putting your sister's ribbon in your hair to remind you of home. But now, you were standing on your platform, waiting for the gong to sound. You were afraid, yes, but you knew you had to survive if you wanted to see your district again.

"May the odds be ever in your favor, tributes. And remember, there will be a surprise waiting for each of you in the arena." A surprise?

No, please, give me more time.

I never got to tell him.

1

I love you, Wakiya. Now and forever.

The gong sounded. You rushed away from the Cornucopia, and rushed towards a backpack on the edge of the hill you were on. Screams of pain, sadness, and the occasional psychotic laughter coming from the Careers made me go faster. 'Rule one: Put as much distance between yourself and everybody else,' your coach's voice echoed through your head. Once you could no longer hear anyone behind you, you stopped and looked around.

The Capitol seemed to want to lure us into a false sense of security. The arena was a colorful, bright rain forest. My district victor, Solo Fey Karanime, told me that water would be my top priority the first day in the arena. But here, there was water EVERYWHERE! I thirstily walked towards a large pool of crystal clear water, when a thought hit my head.

When I was seven, the district springs and wells, where we got our water from, were poisoned by a Capitol produced venom. Millions from my district died, and I almost did, had it not been for Wakiya.....

I snapped out of my thoughts, realizing a girl had been thrown out of a hovercraft towards me. I pulled out a knife I found in my backpack and got in a defensive position, until I realized who she was. She had wavy blonde hair, piercing green eyes, and she would fit perfectly in my district. My eyes widened when she spoke.

"Y/n? Is that you?"

"V-Violet? What are you doing here?"

"I don't know. The Capitol took me from 7 and tossed me here. I'm scared, and Wakiya probably doesn't know where I am!" she began sobbing, she looked vulnerable and defenseless. Pain struck my heart at Wakiya's name. Tears swelled in my eyes while I imagined Wakiya not crying for me, but for Violet. The love of his life. I stood up, forcing the tears in my eyes to stay there.

"Get up. We can't waste any more time. We need to put as much distance between ourselves and the other tributes," I said, standing up and pulling her with me.

With Violet in tow, I realized only one of us could go back to District 7.

(Le time skipo)

22 dead tributes. Only two left, and one surprise. The Careers I was paired up with this year were brutal, bloodthirsty monsters. They eliminated every tribute they came across, and when there were no more, they went for each other. They killed their own groupies, and their surprises from their districts. Now, the only Career left was hunting Violet and I relentlessly. We have been on the run, evading him, leading him in the wrong direction.

I planned to ambush him, and kill him. But I didn't act quick enough. We were walking towards the Cornucopia to have the high ground and take him out, when I heard something rustling in the trees. I stopped.

"Violet, don't move, and don't speak," I whispered, slowly and silently taking my knife out of my belt. She did as I said, but before I could react, the Career had lunged at Violet. I got in the way, and he tackled me instead, Violet screamed and tried to help, but I shouted, "Don't go any nearer! Stay away!!!"

He chuckled as we wrestled each other, dodging knife strokes and punches. "You realize I will win in the end. I'll kill you, and then I'll kill your little friend slowly and painfully for everyone in your puny district to see. It will be so painful, but I'm sure her little boyfriend will suffer most of all," he taunted. I growled and managed to strike his forehead.

"Don't you dare say his name! She is not going to die, because I won't let your hurt her! She has people waiting for her back home. Her mother, her father, and her.....boyfriend. Wakiya will see her again, and I'll make sure of that," I said, my voice faltering slightly as I said Wakiya's name. He chuckled, and took his knife in an aggressive way.

"Oh? Was that pain I heard? Don't tell me you're in love with her boyfriend?" he stopped as another piece of the puzzle fell in place. "And that's why you volunteered for her! How did it feel, hmm? How did it feel to see the one you love holding another in his arms? To see him give his love to someone else, and not you? To see him plead and beg the love of his life to not come to this death trap?" he taunted, enjoying the effect his words had on me. Tears streamed down my cheeks, pain, sadness, and anger in my eyes.

"How does it feel, to love your precious Wakiya, but to see him love little Violet over there!!" he screamed.

"YOU'LL REGRET THIS!!!!!!" I shouted with all my might, and lunged towards him, murder the only thing on my mind.

Back in District 7, Wakiya's POV

I couldn't tear my eyes off the screen. Y/n's mother, Mrs. L/n, and her sister were clutching each other, praying to see their daughter again. My eyes stared intensely at Violet, who was cowering in fear, and they trailed to Y/n, who had taken a lot of damage. What he said next caused me to freeze.

"And that's why you volunteered for her! How did it feel, hmm? How did it feel to see the one you love holding another in his arms? To see him give his love to someone else, and not you? To see him plead and beg the love of his life to not come to this death trap?" Her little sister's gaze turned to me, as realization dawned on her. She saw us, she saw us when we confessed to one another. That's why she volunteered for Violet.

"How does it feel, to love your precious Wakiya, but to see him love little Violet over there!!" he screamed.

'She loves me?'

She lunged at him, and we all gasped as his knife pierced her body. Her mother and sister screamed when he twisted it and pushed the knife deeper.

What happened next was heartbreaking.

"See? I told you I'd win," he gloated, pulling away and seeing his knife embedded in her torso.

"You....won't....win..." she said.

I watched in horror as she pulled the knife out of her body and shoved it into his chest. He gasped, and began coughing up blood. After a few moments, he collapsed and fell. A canon sounded, signaling his death. Violet rushed to her side, and tried to stop the bleeding.

"Y/n, look at me, hey! No, no, no! Don't close your eyes! Hey, hey stay with me!" she shouted, lightly slapping her cheek.

"I'm...I'm not....going....to make....it," she said, struggling to speak. She then smiled sadly. "Hey, it's okay. You're alive, and Wakiya is waiting for you back in 7. Promise me, you'll be happy with him."

"No, Y/n, listen you're going to make it too-"

"No, I'm not. But can you please do me a favor?"

She nodded. Y/n slowly pulled a ribbon out of her hair, and tied it on Violet's wrist. "Give this back to my sister okay? Tell her thank you, and that it did give me good luck," she said, tears streaming down her cheeks.

Violet sobbed and took Y/n's hand. "I promise."

Y/n smiled and looked towards the sky. "I love you, Wakiya Murasaki. Thank you for the memories..."

With that, her eyes closed.

Everyone collapsed in tears. I fell to my knees. I covered my face, and couldn't stop the tears falling down my cheeks. All this time, she had loved me all this time. She had given her life to make me happy. She sacrificed herself so that Violet could live and be happy with me....

"I'm sorry, Y/n. Please, forgive me."
