Aaaaaand story time:
"And I have your 'something blue,'" Chiharu smiled, holding out a a white box tied with a deep blue ribbon. "It's from Valt, actually."
You took the box from her, not bothering to disguise your curiosity, wondering what your very soon to be husband had decided to gift you with just minutes before you would tie knot.
You pulled on the ribbon and watched it gently unfurl, sliding your finger under the flap and gently lifting the lid, only to lose your breath when you saw what was inside.
"What is it?" Chiharu frowned, wondering what her son had come up with for the ever important 'something blue,' but not wanting to invade your privacy.
Wordlessly, you set the box down on the vanity table, and gently took out the prize inside.
"A flower crown?"
You nodded, blinking away your tears in an effort not to cry and ruin the makeup it had taken you two painstaking hours to apply.
"When I was little, I had this flower crown I always wore." You explained, clearing your throat and trying to ignore the burning sensation in your throat that had resulted from you aversion to any tears.
"I don't think I've seen you wear it," Chiharu mused, a thoughtful expression on her face while trying to recall the floral wreath.
"Yeah, that's because stole it from me in class one day because I wouldn't play with him." You told her, a fond smile playing on your lips as the old memory played in your mind. "We were only six mind you, but he still tried to blackmail me. He hid it on the seat next to him, then ran off."
"So what happened to it?" Your future mother in law asked, sounding vaguely amused by her oldest son's antics.
"We ended up playing tag, or as I called it, 'give it back or you're not coming to my birthday party.'"
"The worst insult a child could use," the older woman said, laughing when your smile was replaced by a pout.
"He finally decided to give it back when I threatened not to be his friend anymore." You finished, remembering why you had never gotten your previously coveted crown back.
'Um.. Xander?' Valt gulped, looking wide eyed at the best friend of his that towered over the rest of them.
'Hey Valt, hi Y/n,' Xander grinned at the two of you, looking away from the colouring ins that the teacher had been making them do.
You scowled for a moment, realising he was colouring in a picture of Leone, your favourite Bey. Valt had gotten Pegasus while Shu had gotten L-Drago, you had been stuck with Mad Gasher. You were not impressed to find out that Xander too had been given a cool beyblade to colour, and your scowl deepen futher when you noticed that he was colouring the Bey in red, red of all colours, when the Bey was supposed to be green.
Your short attention span returned to Valt, when you heard him ask if there had been anything on the seat when Xander had sat down.
'Noooooo...' The boy trailed off, very clearly confused. 'I dunno, I didn't look.'
This seemed to freak out Valt, and, looking between him and the chair, it didn't take you long to make the connection.
'My crown!' You howled when Xander got off the chair to see if there was in fact, something that he had been sitting on.
Hands shaking, you picked up the tattered remains of your treasured crown of blue roses.
'Y/n, I'm really really sorry,' Xander apologized, visibly upset, knowing how much you loved the thing. 'I didn't know.'
You sniffled, wiping your face rouchly with the back of your hand.
'S'okay Xander,' you mumbled, hiccoughing and tenderly placing your ruined crown down on your desk, right behind your pencil case, so everyone would know who it belonged to. 'Not your fault.'
He still seemed very apologetic, but he wasn't given a chance to continue groveling, as you took that moment to round on Valt.
'It's all YOUR stupid fault! It's your fault I can't wear my crown no more!'
'Y/n–'
'ARGH!'
And while Valt might have made the mistake of swiping your crown and putting it in harm's way, he was smart enough to know that he should have started running away from the very angry six year old st least three minutes ago.
"I can't believe he remembered," you laughed, after recalling Valt's mother of the shenanigans you and her son had gotten up to when you were only recently out of nappies. "I'd have sworn he'd forgotten about it years ago."
There were several clear differences about this crown from your old one. This one was thinner for example, and the flowers fewer than they had been. You guessed that he had asked his mother about your bouquet or something beforehand, as the two sets of flowers coordinated with each other perfectly. It might not have been the same crown that Xander had sat on all those years ago. It was easily worth more than the five dollars or so that your mother had spent on the original, and it was extremely tasteful and feminine in comparison.
In short? It was beautiful, and you were still a little shocked that your fiancé had gifted you with something that was so thoughtful and symbolic, and once again, you were hard pressed not to cry.
Chiharu carefully placed the ring of flowers on top of your head, taking the time to fix up any stray hairs that had fallen out of place while doing so.
When she had done, the two of you exited the room, she led you down the stairs, where your arrival was met at the foot of them, by the whole hearted approval of you and your fiancé's shared friends, and even a cheeky cat call from Xander, who you flipped the V at much to everyone's shared amusement as he approached you.
"You look great," he grinned, taking your hand and twirling you, laughing as you giggled at the way your skirt flared out slightly around your legs from the movement. "Absolutely stunning, Valt won't be able to take his eyes off of you."
"Thank you," you smiled genuinely up at the man who was honestly like a brother to you, and had agreed to act as your 'Man of Honour' while Shu took on the role of Valt's best man.
"I like the crown."
"Well good, but I'm not letting you sit on this one," you warned, narrowing your eyes playfully.
Xander pretended to pout, before his face softened and his voice lowered, suddenly turning serious.
"Are you ready for this?"
You took a deep breath, reaching up almost subconsciously to brush your fingers over one of the roses that sat on your head.
"Yes," you declared, firmly and proudly, the excitement and eagerly accompanying anticipation drawing out any hints of nerves or anxiety that may have been present in your eyes. "I'm ready to become Mrs Valt Aoi."
And before we finish up, this is how your wedding reception ended up after a while and few too many glasses of wine:
The flawless red haired girl is you.
The blond guy who she belongs with is Valt (who's in a suit not a dress lol).
The hyperactive short girl in the pink dress is Xander (again, suit, not a dress).
And the 100% undercover Jedi Knight in this is Shu.
Totally spontaneous, you guys are just that in sync with one another, lol 😂
