Movie Night (Valt)

You're all sixteen in this by the way and it takes place after the events of Evolution but before Turbo :)

Also, contains me shamelessly bashing the PJO movies as well as the Avatar: The Last Airbender movie, minor Doom Patrol spoilers for anyone who watches it.

Enjoy guys!!

"So what are we watching?" You wondered, falling onto the lounge beside your blue haired boyfriend, stealing a handful of his pop corn and giving him your best halo when he shot you a look of exasperation. Valt, more than used to your behaviour by now, shook his head and resigned himself to sharing.

"Well, we took a vote," Rantaro began, sounding hesitant.

"And we narrowed it down to two movies." Cuza finished for him.

Friday night movie nights had become a thing around about the same time as you had transferred to BC Sol from your old team, where the little tradition had first started. Out of sheer habit you kept up the almost ritualistic movie night, commandeering the very rarely used REC room for the purpose. A few months after restarting your movie nights, Valt had walked past the room and had poked his head inside, curious to see who was in the room after noticing the lights from the TV screen under the door. Now, you hadn't really interacted with your team captain much before that point, but the two of you had quickly bonded over your mutual adoration for superhero movies, Marvel in particular, although the two of you had started to binge other shows like Doom Patrol and Titans in your spare time. It wasn't long before Valt was dragging Rantaro and Cuza along to watch movies with you, you were hesitant at first, not knowing them all that well either, but you'd discovered that the two guys were actually pretty cool and the rest was history. Now, almost a year later, Friday movie nights were an annual thing that your group of friends regularly participated in.

"Yeah? What's the problem here?" You pressed, nudging Valt and discreetly slipping him a packet of M'n'Ms you'd grabbed for him when you'd gone into town earlier that same day in order to gather a veritable hoard of junk food specifically for that night. You could practically feel Valt's happiness as he wrapped an arm around your shoulders and pulled the blanket handing over the back of the love seat around the two of you.

"They're worried you won't like their choices," Silas filled you in, rolling his eyes at them. You smiled at Cuza and Rantaro in an attempt to reassure them.

"I'm sure I'll survive," you promised them, snuggling closer into Valt's side, taking the piece of popcorn he offered you before you could take one for yourself.

"Okay then," Rantaro grinned, holding up two cases. "We've got Avatar: The Last Airbender or Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief."

Valt stiffened beside you, and you could hear the sound of Silas's face palm as well as Free's sigh and the twin gasps emitted from Honey and Kit. You blinked up at Rantaro and Cuza who were standing side by side and looking at you expectantly, smiling widely.

"Did you just say, Avatar: The Last Airbender, as in the movie, not the TV series?" You tilted your head questioningly. "And Percy Jackson, yeah?"

"Yes?" They replied, smiles becoming strained.

The large popcorn piece held between your thumb and forefinger was promptly crushed, causing the two friends to flinch violently in fear. Rantaro even held up the movie case in order to deflect anything that might be thrown his way. Cuza, lacking a shield, stepped behind Rantaro.

"I am not watching that shit." You declared, stretching out languidly and pillowing your head on Valt's lap. His legs felt tense beneath your head, you found his hand beneath the blanket and you laced your fingers with his, giving his hand a gentle squeeze to let him know that he wasn't the one who needed to be in fear of painful retribution at that moment.

You all had a system. There were four designated pairs, Cuza and Rantaro, Silas and Free, Kit and Honey, and yourself and Valt. Each week was a different pair's turn to chose that week's movies. Now, usually you respected the system. This was different.

"You said you'd survive," Rantaro squawked. You gave him an odd look. Did he really just make that noise? Either way, you pushed aside your momentary confusion and narrowed your eyes.

"I'm not watching a movie where Ung is the Ah-vatar and along with Kaatara and Soaka is trying to save the world from the evil of the Fire Nation and its prince Suko, all with the power of slow motion." You ranted. Movie inconsistencies were a huge pet peeve for you. In all honestly, if you could watch a five hour long movie of your favourite book with every single scene included, actors perfectly cast, you would sit down and watch the hell out of it. Most of the time you were more or less okay with how moves changed certain things, a snarky comment or two beneath your breath, sure, but you could go with it. But watching a movie that totally butchered the original series? A movie that completely mispronounced the man characters name, despite it having clearly been stated? That was asking the impossible.

"Besides," you added. "Yue's hair totally looks like a pe-"

"Little ears," Free interjected, giving you a pointed look and nodding over to where Kit and Honey sat together innocently. You huffed and shook your head.

"Besides, this has all of the deleted scenes included." Cuza poked his head out from behind his human shield to defend his movie choice, as if that would some how sway you.

"They should have deleted the entire movie," you snorted derisively. "Look, everything I just mentioned aside, movie Katara and Sokka have white skin, TV Katara and Sokka have dark skin. Movie Zuko has dark skin, TV Zuko has far skin. It's completely illogical."

"How so?" Valt asked, looking down at you with a genuinely intrigued look on his face and you couldn't help but smiling at him. That was one of the many things you loved about your boyfriend, he was always interested in what you had to say. You could be going off on an absolutely stupid tangent about the most pointless things, and he would sit there and listen to you wth rapt attention before asking questions about what you had said. It made you feel special and important, he made you feel loved.

"Well Katara and Sokka are peasants, they might live in the South Pole and wear furs and stuff, but they work out in the sun all day, they're tanned," you explained. "For Zuko, it's the opposite. Yeah, he's been banished and he's out searching for the avatar, but he's still a prince, he's still royalty. He spends so much time in doors and out of the sun, so it makes sense that he's pale."

"I mean yeah, that makes sense." Valt agreed with you.

"And the worst part is, I can barely make any honour jokes in the movie." You pouted.

"Okay then, how about Percy Jackson?" Rantaro suggested, patting Cuza on the back consolingly. Clearly the ALTA movie had been the acrobat's choice.

"Not unless you want me to sit there and point out literally every single thing that is wrong with the film," you countered with a deadpan stare. There were too many errors to count, but the last time you had been forced to watch the travesty that was the Percy Jackson movies you had sat there throughout the entire thing and completely picked it apart. Over kill? Maybe. But this was one of your favourite book series. It honestly amazed you some times, and not in a good way, how bad the adaptation was, it was like the directors had never even read the books.

"It can't be that bad," Silas shrugged.

"Could be funny," Free added.

"Thank you," Rantaro grinned.

You sighed quietly, watching your blond friend put the DVD into the player. It felt as though you'd signed your life away for the next hour and fifty eight minutes. You chose to sit up instead of lying down and instead pillowed your head on Valt's shoulder, opening your mouth for the piece of popcorn he held up for you, muttering a quiet word of thanks. You understood, you really did. Not everyone would like the same movies as you, it was a simple fact of life, but why did the movie choices for the evening have to be two of your least favourite film adaptations to be created?

"Is it really that bad?" Valt whispered as to not annoy the others as the opening credits began to roll and Logan Lerman's voice began the introduction.

"Sorry if I ruin it for you," you apologised, nodding your head despondently.

"I don't mind," he replied, by the tone of his voice you could tell he was smiling.

"Can it you two," Silas whisper/hissed.

"Bat ears," you grumbled, lips quirking as you heard him grumble and felt Valt shake with quiet laughter.

You fell into silence, a silence which lasted for a record breaking total of five minutes after Percy's first appearance. You tried to keep it in, you really did, conceal don't feel and all that jazz. Unfortunately, you couldn't keep it inside and you had to let it go.

"They're meant to be twelve, not seventeen," you mumbled under your breath.

"You've got this," Valt quietly cheered you on. You smiled at his efforts. Your boyfriend's words of encouragement helped to tide you over, and you even managed to refrain from pointing out the difference in Grover's skin colour, as well as the fact that Nancy Bobofit was nowhere to be seen. In your defence, it had been a few years since you'd endured torture via Percy Jackson movie and you'd blessedly forgotten a few things. Blessedly then became a subjective term however, when Grover began pulling his pants off in the back of the family car.

"Oh my God they turned Grover into a stripper," you said after a low, horrified gasp. You wanted to smack yourself when you saw and remembered the fact that he was just showing them that he was a satyr and was not in fact, a stripper like you had immediately assumed for some unknown reason. That was enough for Valt apparently, who couldn't stop his short bark of laughter. It was also enough for Silas, who leaned around to glare at you.

"Get out," he ordered, pointing to the door.

You didn't need to be told twice. You shot the green haired man a grateful look and pressed a quick kiss to Valt's cheek, grabbing your bag of favourite candies and slipping out from beneath the warm blankets. If it were any other night you probably would have stuck your tongue out and refused before shutting up and watching the movie, but you knew that this was one of the few movies that you would never be able to keep yourself quiet in and while you were an avid hater of that particular movie, you didn't want to ruin it for anyone else.

You made it back to your bedroom and happily fell onto your mattress. The gender ratios between male and females on your team was pretty uneven, so you were blessed to have a room all to yourself. After a few minutes of just lying there and staring off into space, you rolled over onto your stomach and reached out for your laptop which you'd left charging on your bedside table. You pulled it over to you, smiling at your screen saver which was a picture of you and Valt mid food fight, and pondered over what to watch. You might not have been participating in movie night, but it would have just felt weird at this point to not be watching anything on your Friday evening.

A guilty feeling washed over you as you quickly typed 'Doom Patrol' into the search bar. There was just one episode left in the only season of the show you'd begun watching with your boyfriend earlier that same week. You had watched every single episode together, usually in your bedroom or somewhere private, considering that some of the scenes could get a little... gory, for the lack of a better word. The two of you had intended to watch the season finale that day, but Valt had needed to take some of the team's newest Blader's through a bunch of training exercises. You understood, really you did. Valt was the team captain, he had a job to you and you understood that there were times when he would have to cancel on you because of that. Thankfully that didn't happen too often, but that also meant that you would have to wait to watch the next episode. You pushed the guilt aside and began to load the episode labelled 'Ezekiel Patrol' which you reasoned would have something to do with the cockroach that had only been a minor character up until a few episodes ago where he'd even named Ezekiel. Valt would never need to find out, besides, you could just rewatch with him tomorrow and pretend like you hadn't seen it.

There was a knock on your door which caused you to jump unexpectedly, very nearly sending you over the edge of your bed. Pausing the intro, you took a second to calm down your racing heartbeat and went over to answer the door. To say that you were surprised to see your boyfriend standing there, smiling and holding up a freshly made bowl of popcorn, would have been an understatement.

"Why aren't you with the others?" You asked him worriedly.

Valt's smile turned into a grin and a faint blush painted his cheeks. "Movie nights aren't fun without you."

There was that feeling again, the one that only Valt seemed to be able to get out of you. It made you feel all warm and fluttery inside, almost like there were butterflies doing intense gymnastics routines in your chest.

"You didn't have to leave though."

"I know," he countered sweetly, making your curse internally as you felt your own face begin to burn. Why did he still make you feel like this even after you'd been together for several months now? It wasn't fair, and it seemed to be getting worse over time instead of better. "So can I come in? I come bearing gifts."

"I'll allow it," you winked, stepping back and letting him inside.

While you were closing the door, Valt was lying down in what had become his side on your double your bed. He grabbed one of your pillows, and pulled it in front of him so he could prop his head up on it while watching. Normally you didn't let anyone mess with your precious pillows, they had to be in a specific spot otherwise it took you ages to get comfortable during the night. Valt was the only exception you had ever made to this rule because he knew how to perfectly rearrange them for you, and on the odd occasion that he messed this up, he was more than happy to act as your stand in pillow. You laid down next to him, grabbing your own pillow and tugging the blanket he'd brought along with him up over the two of you.

With you both ready for movie watching in the prime position for absolute binging comfort, Valt hit the space bar on your key board to unpause the show and promptly turned to you with a disbelieving look upon his face.

"You were going to watch Ezekiel Patrol without me?"

"Damn it," you winced, smacking yourself in the head for your own stupidity. How in hell had you forgotten about the episode you had been internally monologuing over literally moments before Valt had shown up and distracted you. "I'm sorry, you were busy earlier and I figured we could watch it together tomorrow."

"You don't just do that to a man," Valt huffed.

He wasn't mad and you knew it, he was slightly put out at best if even that. He was just playing it up to make you feel guilty and damn you it was working. You offered him a sheepishly hopeful smile.

"We can watch it together now?"

"You'll probably just go and cheat on me with Titans when I leave," he shrugged dismissively, your eyes widened incredulously and you poked him in between the ribs.

"How dare you assume my loyalty to our shows."

"The evidence is right here," he sniffed.

"Hmph," you grumbled. "In that case I'll just go and watch it somewhere else."

You grabbed your laptop and made as if you were about to give up. You grinned internally when you saw Valt visibly panicking, his fingers wrapped around your wrist and he pulled you back down beside him.

"Okay I take it back, let's not be hasty here."

"Only because I love you," you agreed after pretending to deliberate over it and leaning over to kiss him on the nose. Valt blinked and his nose twitched, it was the cutest reaction you'd ever seen, which was why you constantly made a point of doing it him.

"I love you too," Valt replied. After that, he quickly rewound the last few minutes you'd managed to miss while play fighting with each other. You cuddled up into his side again and joined him in watching the final episode of one of your favourite shows together. It wasn't your usual movie night, but because you were alone with Valt, it was your favourite by far.
