Heights (Kazuma)
I feel like this would be a thing with at least one of Wakiya's children, and so I definitely needed to write this 😂😂 High key proud of this little one shot.
Kazuma is fourteen in this and Rieko is eleven. Rieko's hair is honey blonde and her eyes are dark blue.
Enjoy guys!!
In hindsight, taking your acrophobic son zip lining was probably a bad idea. In your defense, the huge zip lining tour boasted by the resort you and your little family was vacationing at was one of the biggest attractions the place had to offer and so you hadn't thought twice about signing up your party of four. Wakiya had thankfully mellowed out somewhat over the years and was now able to cross the bridge at the back of his family home without so much as a hint of anxiety. Kazuma on the other hand was an entirely different story, which was evidenced by his very obvious fear.
Your husband was currently checking your eleven year old daughter's harness for what was probably the fifth time in twelve minutes. Rieko, like the angel she was, barely complained and was antsy to get going. While the two of them were getting along just fine, you were more than a little preoccupied in calming down your panicking son. He'd been fine on the way up the mountain, though that probably had something to do with the fact that you'd neglected to inform either of your children as to what you and your husband had put onto the day's agenda.
"It's perfectly safe," you assured your son, coaching down slightly so you were closer to his eye level. You were about to take his hands in your's, but based on the way he was nervously shifting from side to side, you guessed that the gesture might not be totally appreciated. "You trust me don't you?"
"Of course I do," he declared, still finding the ability to sound offended at the thought. The way his voice cracked ruined the effect though, and you heard Rieko giggling at how high pitched her big brother's voice had suddenly become. Kazuma, thankfully, didn't seem to hear her, too preoccupied with his mounting anxiety.
"It's all about the perceived risk, kid." The booming voice of the instructor interjected unceremoniously. Normally you would have glared at the interruption, but if he could calm down your son where you were apparently failing, then you were all for it.
"This is way safer then what crossing the road is," he explained. "We check the equipment all the time and constantly replace different parts to make sure it's as safe as can be." He then paused, and added as if it were an afterthought, "Not to mention it's the only way back down the mountain."
Kazuma didn't care. That small fact became glaringly apparent when his pale face flushed red and he rounded on the poor and unsuspecting instructor.
"DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO I AM?! I'M KAZUMA MURASAKI, I'LL JUST TAKE MY PRIVATE JET ACROSS!"
You were a bad mother. You were a really bad mother. You should have been reprimanding your son for shouting at someone like that, let alone someone who was only trying to help him. Instead you were backing away and biting down on your fist in a desperate attempt to stop yourself from bursting into laughter. You might have succeeded too if Wakiya hadn't chosen to burn a very unflattering shade of red against his naturally fair skin. The breaking point was when you heard him murmur to himself:
"Is that what I sounded like?"
The flood gates didn't just break. The groaned and splintered and utterly shattered as you dissolved into a fit of laughter like you never had before. You fell to your knees, arms wrapped around your stomach as your entire body shook with the weight of your hysteria.
"YES!" You howled, tears running unbidden down your face. "THAT'S EXACTLY IT!"
Wakiya groaned and buried his face in his hands, which only added to the hilarity of the situation. Poor Kazuma was looking at you in concern, still breathing heavily from his outburst and wondering what it is he had said to set you off like this. Rieko was also worried. She started to approach you before seeming to think better of it and hesitating.
"Dad?" She blinked up at her father, apprehension gleaming in her dark blue eyes. "What's wrong with mum?"
"It's a very long stort sweetheart," he sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose and fixing you with a pained look. "Are you done yet love?"
"OH MY GOD, HONCHO!" Your hyena like cackling reached a new pitch as you perfectly envisioned the look on the blond male's face when you'd inform him of what had happened. You knew that had he been there, he'd be incoherent and rolling in the dirt beside you. "HONCHO NEEDS TO HEAR ABOUT THIS!"
"Maybe when we get back to the hotel?" He suggested, already preparing himself for the humour that would surely come at his own expense when you told their friends about your son's outburst and his uncanny choice of words.
"I CAN'T! I CAN'T!" You fell onto your breath, struggling to get adequate amounts of oxygen into your lungs. There was a large ache growing across your abdomen and you gave into the urge to roll over onto your side and curl up into a tight ball. You must have looked a sight but not a single part of you cared. The physical similarities between your son and your husband when he'd been close to your son's age in combination with Kazuma's uncanny wording was proving to be all too much for you to handle. You loved Wakiya, you really did, but his rich kid attitude and his fear of heights had come together in a truly beautiful and comedic way back when the two of you were just kids. You'd found his 'I'll take my private jet across' moment funny enough then, but getting to witness it all over again, this time with your son was completely overwhelming.
"Is this another one of those things where Zuma does something that reminds mum of you when you were kids?" Was your ever insightful daughter's next question to your exasperated husband.
"You could say that," his response sounded defeated to say the least. He looked to the instructor and gave the confused man a remorseful look. "Could we take a moment please? My wife might need to compose her herself."
"I'm fine, I'm fine!" You gasped, waving a hand at them to draw their attention back to you. You were still shuddering, but you were also inhaling greedy lungfuls of air that were helping get yourself back under control. You sighed loudly and relaxed against the ground, flopping back onto your back after a long moment and staring up at the clear blue sky above you with a wide smile on your genuinely aching face.
Wakiya's face appeared above you in your field of vision, his blond eyebrows drawn together in a very concerned expression on his face as he stared down at you. "Are you sure?"
"Oh yeah," you giggled despite yourself and held up a hand for him to help you up. He didn't hesitate to take you hand firmly in both of his own, he trod lightly on your feet so you wouldn't simply slide around and pulled you upright again. You grinned up at your husband adoringly and wiped the tear tracks away with the back of your hand.
In the end, you got Kazuma onto the zip line. Thankfully it was a dual line and the two of you had gone on together after your husband and daughter had disappeared down the mountain. His eyes were closed in the beginning and he did need to ask the recently apologized to instructor to give him a little push, but you were so proud to see him facing his fears like that and even prouder when he eventually opened his eyes and promptly had his breath stolen by the beautiful landscape surrounding you.
Naturally, the first thing you'd done upon returning to your hotel suite was call up your blond haired friend and told him all about what your son had said before getting on to the zipline, and the two of you had shared a good laugh about how similar the occurrence was to what had happened back in the Mexican jungles all those years ago. As time passed and after he had been filled in on why you'd found his outburst so funny, even Kazuma had been able to see the humour in the situation and he too had laughed about it. But it was needless to say that even years and years later, your son's 'I'll take my private jet across moment' would remain as one of your favorite vacation memories.
I did a lot of height activities while I was at camp, one of the things I saw some of the other schools doing was dual zip lining, which is pretty much what prompted this little story thing.
Hope you liked it,
