Chapter 8
Harry's POV
"Harry, wake up, mate!"
"Is he still sleeping!?"
"Yeah, he won't even budge!"
"Oh, move over!"
I just had a moment to brace myself before I heard Ginny's voice murmur. "Augumenti," and a jet of cool water hit me in the face. It dripped down my forehead and dribbled onto my front, leaving a cold trail in its wake. Quickly sitting up in the four poster bed in the dorm, I wiped the water of my face with a groan.
"Really, Gin?" I asked. But I couldn't hide the smile that was forming on my lips at the sight of her. Her firry hair was swept into a braid at the side of her head and she was wearing a lose blue shirt that has the name of a muggle book on it. I guessed it was Hermione's. it said; The Fault In Our Stars on the front.
"You know you're glad to see me," she grinned and I smiled. If I got my way, I'd want to wake up to this everyday. Except the water of course. Ron cleared his throat and handed me my glasses.
"Come on," he said. "Hermione's waiting in the hospital wing. We're going to go get her and have breakfast."
"We're heading off to London after that," Ginny added. Ron sighed exasperatedly.
"No, we are going to Hogsmeade first." Ginny rolled her eyes and turned around.
"Ron, if you think going to a sweetshop while we could be doing something that actually matters is going to help you get Hermione back, you're wrong. That will mess up our schedule and she won't like it." That shut him up.
He nodded his head and looked down at the carpet of our dormitory with a saddened expression crossing his face, and Ginny sighed. "She'll come round, Ron," she whispered, patting his shoulder. He shook his head.
"You saw her yesterday. She doesn't even want to talk to me. When you said I picked the chocolates out, did you see her face? She was hurt."
Ginny looked at me reproachfully and I hastily added. "Ron, er, you just need to give her time. She'll start talking to you soon, mate." His shoulders slumped and he muttered.
"Doesn't look like it." I cleared my throat uneasily.
"Well, let's go down then, shall we?" After putting on a clean clothes, I made my way down to the common room from where we went off to the hospital wing. When we got there, Hermione was sitting opposite Madame Pomfrey ar her desk, listening attentively as she explained all her medication timings to her. Her bandages had all been cleared away from her body, and her bushy brown hair was frizzy.
"And take this before going to sleep. It's a Calming Draught," Madam Pomfrey was explaining, holding up a vial that had a clear blue liquid inside it.
"Okay," replied Hermione, standing up and stretching. Her face looked rosier and her voice was lighter too.
"Are you sure you'll remember all that?" she nodded her head quickly. "You can owl me anytime too."
"Thanks," Hermione replied with a smile of her own. We walked up behind her and she happily turned around.
"Ready to get out of here?" I asked her, grinning broadly.
"You bet I am," she replied, getting up and joining us.
"Can you walk properly mow?" Ginny asked and Hermione chuckled and said.
"Yeah, of course I can." She walked across the room, towards her bed where her handbag was lying. Throwing its strap over one shoulder, she joined us as we walked to the doors, Ron trailing a little behind us.
"I'm starving," Ginny complained and I had to agree. My stomach had been empty since yesterday. We hurried into the Great Hall and settled onto the Gryyfindor table where mounds of pancakes, sausages and eggs awaited us. Sliding in next to Neville who winked at us knowingly, we began to talk in whispers.
"Okay," Hermione said, checking her watch. "We need to be off by eight, so hurry up." It was seven forty five. I put some pancakes on my plate and started shoving them down my throat at breakneck speed and Ron did the same, while Hermione and Ginny stared at us in bewilderment.
"You should eat too," I told them between bites and Hermione pulled a plate of sausages towards her before piling some on her plate, and Ginny pulled a plate of scrambled egg and a glass of pumpkin juice towards her. The rest of the Great Hall was bursting with chatter as usual and the four tables were crowded. I cast my gaze to the Slytherin table, and saw Draco sitting with Blaise Zabini and Goyle on either side of him, wearing a sullen scowl on his face. In other words, he was playing his part.
We got up ten minutes later and made our way to the apperation point a little way out of Hogwarts where Luna was waiting for us, and spun on the spot. I was pulled into the familiar crushing darkness, and the imaginary tunnel seemed to be tearing me apart. But it was over quickly and we dusted ourselves off before looking around.
We had landed in an old abandoned muggle alleyway. The shops on either side of us had their shutters closed and Hermione told us that we landed somewhere on the outskirts of London and that we will had to walk the rest of the way.
"There are plenty of Wrackspurts here," Luna told us. Ron rolled his eyes.
"Really?" Neville asks, raising an eyebrow and Luna smiles dreamily.
"Oh yes," she told him. "They're all over the place here. You should be careful." Neville nodded. It was clear that he was trying to show as much interest in them as he could.
"I got us muggle money," he said to Luna who looked back at him with wide blue eyes.
"You did? For me?"
"Of course," he smiled.
"That's really nice of you, Neville," she told him. "I almost feel like you actually like me." She walked with a little bounce in her step and as she caught up to Hermione and Ginny, I heard Neville mutter.
"I do."
The streets were almost deserted as it was a Sunday and everyone was probably in bed. But the sun was up and is glaring down at us, its rays touching our skins and its warn glow spreading across the city. The walk into Central London was agonizingly slow and uneventful.
When we eventually got there, a collective sigh of relief was heard from all of us as we stopped for a minute to catch our breaths. This part of the city was a little busier, even if it was early in the morning.
"Alright," Hermione said, turning around to look at us. "We need to get muggle clothing first, then we can grab lunch somewhere. I got Professor McGonnagal to change my galeons into muggle money. Harry, this is for you." She handed me a leather wallet that has pound notes in it.
"McGonnagal said you can pay her back later. And Ginny, Ron, these are for you. She, er, she said it was settled with your parents." Her voice wavered as soon as Ron leaned towards her to get his wallet, and the tension in the air was palpable.
"Thanks," Ron said and Hermione turned away muttering a "you're welcome."
"Shall we go ahead then?" Ginny asked hastily and I chuckled at her subtle attempt to change the topic. I nodded and we continued walking towards a row of shops that line Oxford Street. Hermione took us into a shop and I tried my best not to laugh as Ron held up a girls' belt and says. "Is this supposed to be a tie?" Neville was ruffling through a rack of tank tops for girls.
"Ron, put it down, mate," I muttered and he looks at me questioningly. "Neville, leave those alone, mate."
"Why?"
Just then, a salesgirl walked up and said, "Sir, would you like to buy that?" Ron looked at me and I shook my head at him.
"No," he said to the girl. "I'm, er, just looking." When she left, he turned to me. "Why can I not buy it?"
I debated on the best way to break it to him, but came up with nothing so I just said. "Because it's a belt. For girls." At his blank expression, I added. "You don't know what a belt is, do you?" He shook his head again. Neville walked up behind us, his arm full of purple and blue tops. I sighed in exasperation and took those away from him.
"Hey..." he protested.
"Those are not for us." I told him. "This is the girls' section." I grin as Ron and Neville stood there with their mouths open.
I steer them towards the boys section of the store and hand them a few pairs of jeans and shirts. "Try these on."
