Chapter 20

"Vanessa thinks too much of herself," I said.

"Yeah," Hermione agreed."She doesn't even laugh right." It was true her giggles were sugar-coated and seemed to be dripping with artificial girly laughter.

"And I'm guessing Abby is not who she says she is," I added thoughtfully.

"How?"

"This fell out of Abby's bag when she was getting up from her desk but she was too busy babbling on and on to even notice,"

I opened up my bag to show her a black leather-bound book with a plain cover. At the back were the words.*This diary belongs to Erin Hunt* and underneath was a picture that seemed vaguely familiar. The girl had blue eyes with brown hair. The shape of the face was just like Abby's and the eyes too.

Erin Hunt. That had been Abby's real name. And now this girl had the same icy blue eyes and last name. The only difference was the blonde hair, but somehow I could tell they were sisters from just the way she talked. This could not be could. McGonnagal had told us there would be death eaters hidden here, but after living here so long and not coming across anything, I had just gotten used to the peace.

That was obviously about to change.

She slammed her locker shut and looked at me closely. "I think we have English together."

I didn't remember seeing her in class but I nodded. "I'm Ginny. Ginny Weasley."

"You guys moved transferred here in the middle of the year," she pointed, examining her nails, trying to be uninterested but she wasn't fooling me.

"Yeah, we did," I told her, pulling my hair back in a ponytail. She eyes me carefully before smiling.

"You should try out for the cheerleading squad. Two of the girls had to leave so we're holding tryouts."

She was being nice. I didn't get it. I knew it was an act of course because of the way her eyes seemed to look through me and how she had asked about me hanging out with Harry even though she was a girl I barely knew. But I decided to go along with it for now. "That sounds like fun." Her smile widened and I added. "I'll get my friend to come too." Hermione needed an extracurricular.

"Oh you mean that girl with the brown hair? The one who always has her nose in a book?" she asked, raising her eyebrows.

"Yeah," I said, my voice firm. "Her name's Hermione." She smirked and I felt a wave of anger wash over me.

But all she said was, "Cool," before pulling out her phone from her pocket. "Bring her too. Tryouts are this Monday."

She left soon after and I stood there a full minute wondering what to make of this. She couldn't possibly be the only death eater here. If she was here, there had to he others too. A small voice in the back of my head told me that I didn't know for sure that she was a death eater, that the only proof I had was her last name and the colour of her wyes, but I ignored it. My gut was telling me she was and I chose to go with it for now.

"Gin, are you sure?" Harry asked me as we stood in front of our lockers that day. It was the end of the day and we were waiting for the others to get here so we could drive home. I nodded.

"Positive. It was the same eyes, Harry. You should've heard the way she talked too. Besides, her last name is Hunt."

He began running his fingers through his dark hair and his emerald green eyes were narrowed as he thought it over. "You might be right," he said at last. "Especially since she also has apparently has something against Hermione...." He was cut off by someone else opening their locker very close to us. We hadn't heard anyone walk up behind us.

When I turned around, it was to see Rolf Scamander. He had his phone in one hand and was sorting through his books with the other. When he saw us, his mouth stretched into a friendly grin. "Hey," he said. "How's it going?"

"Great," I replied before Harry could say anything. "We were waiting for Luna and the others so we could go home."

Nice wing-woman skills Gin, I mentally patted myself on the back. Harry was trying to hide his smile.

"Oh," Rolf muttered. "You guys live together?"

"Yeah," I told him, closing the door of my locker.

"Cool," he grinned. " is she.... I mean are you all coming to the party at Jason's this Friday?"

"Yeah, we'll all be there," I told him as he put his phone back into his pocket.

"Great. I'll see you around." He waves at us before making his way to the doors that led out to the football field, probably going to practice.

"He's nice," I commented. Harry still had  that thoughtful look in his eyes.

"It's just weird," his great grandfather was from Britain and a wizard. What's he doing all the way here in a muggle school?"

"Maybe he's not a wizard?" I offered. "That can happen you know. He could be a squib or something." The caretaker back at Hogwarts was a squib. It meant he was born into a wizard family but had no magical blood in his veins.

Harry nodded and sighed. "It's been a month, Gin."

He didn't have to explain what he meant by that. I knew he was frustrated that we hadn't found his sister yet. We were here for six months and one was already gone. I looked back at him and squeezed his hand softly. "We'll find her, Harry. I promise."
