Chapter 14

Ron's POV

"Okay, I think that should do it," Hermione was saying.

"Yeah," Harry replied.

"We'll have to put the potions in this one though. I don't think they're going to stay safe there," said Ginny.

We were in the common room and it was about midnight already. But we had to make sure everything was packed before we left in the morning according to Hermione. Our muggle clothes and stationery had been safely packed and the bags were almost ready to be closed for good.

We had decided to take some already-made potions with us just in case; the polyhuice potion, Veritiserum, calming draught and essence of ditany were all stowed in Ginny's suitcase which seemed to be the lightest. But now, it seemed, they had to be put somewhere else.

Hermione looked up from the parchment she was looking at. She had made a list of all the things we needed to do and was currently ticking them off with her quill. "Okay," she said. "There is room with the books."

"Books?" All of us exclaimed at once. She rolled her eyes.

"Yes, books," she told us. "We need to take some of them with us so we still know our charms and jinxes, because who knows? We might need them."

"But we'll already be learning the muggle things!" l exclaimed. This sounded like too much work to me.

"Yes, and if suddenly we're attacked and need to defend ourselves, what will you do? We can't forget about them." She had a point of course. All of us unwillingly agreed with her.

She took the potions out of Ginny's bag and put them in another smaller one. I guessed she had used an undetectable extension charm on it, judging by the sound made as the potions were put inside it.

"Okay," she sighed. "That's about it, I think. This bag also has parchment, quills and ink bottles if we need them."

"What about our wands?" Harry asked. "We can't carry them around with us." Hermione rolled up the parchment she was holding.

"I talked that over with McGonnagal. She said we need to be prepared at all times. There's no telling when we could be attacked. So we'll have to just keep them in our pockets, I think."

"And be careful not to sit on them," Ginny smirked and Harry chuckled.

"We better get some sleep," Hermione announced. "We have a busy day tomorrow."

"We'll take these upstairs for now," said Harry, picking up two of the bags. "First thing in the morning, you don't want other people to see them." I joined him and we began hauling the bags upstairs into our dormitory.

"We leave at seven!" Hermione called.

The dormitory was dark as Dean, Seamus and Neville had already gone to sleep. I spotted Neville's suitcase open at the foot of his bed and quickly cast a temporary disillusionment charm on it so it wouldn't be spotted by Dean or Seamus if they somehow woke up before us.

"Harry?" I muttered.

"Yeah?"

"Thanks for that intervention you pulled of today."

"Intervention?"

"So Hermione and I could make up," I said and I heard a distinct chuckle.

"No problem, mate." Pulling the curtains around my bed, I finally let my head hit the pillow and closed my eyes, hoping to catch a few hours of sleep.

It felt like I had only closed my eyes for a minute when I heard somebody yanking the curtains around my bed apart and then that person proceeded to shake me awake.

"What time is it?" I said groggily.

"Six fifteen," Harry whispered. "Now get up. We're waiting down in the common-room." He quietly slipped out of the dormitory and I stumbled out of bed, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. Getting ready in record time, I noticed that Neville's suitcase was now being heaved out of the dorm by Neville himself.

Pulling on one of the shirts I had gotten yesterday, I hastily made my way down to the common-room to see that everybody except Luna, was waiting for me.

Hermione was reading from her roll of parchment again and muttering that it was getting late. She was wearing a simple muggle shirt and pair of jeans with a black hoodie that I had bought for myself.

"You need to relax," I told her, standing behind her. She glared at me.

"Right now?" she exclaimed. "I can't. Not until we're inside the airplane. Now, where was I? Oh yes, Ginny, have you put the owl-treats in your bag?" We were leaving Pigwidgeon with Professor McGonnagal for now. She would send him once we had landed there.

"Yeah, I have," replied Ginny, closing her suitcase and going over to help Neville and Harry who were closing all the other bags.

"Okay," said Hermione, rolling up the parchment. "We need to get going. Luna will meet us in McGonnagal's office." She quickly cast a temporary shrinking charm on the bags so they would be easier to carry, and we picked them up before making our way out of the portrait hole.

The corridors were partially dark. Outside, the sky was turning lighter as the sun began to rise. It was winter so there was a chill hanging in the air as we tried to be as silent as possible while making our way to the headmistress's office. We tried to keep to the shadows just in case Filtch and his cat showed up. Although, even if he did catch us, he would only take us to where we were already going and that was amusing to think about. Neville was leading the way, his wand lighting up our path. I had stowed my wand inside my sleeve for now.

"You think we can have breakfast?" I asked Hermione, just to see what she would say. I was actually really hungry though. Her reaction was just as I had thought it would be. She turned to me, a scowl pasted on his face, her eyes narrowed in annoyance.

"We don't have time, Ronald," she scolded.

"Fine," I told her. "I was jusr wondering."

She rolled her eyes and continued walking. I caught up to her and added. "You think they have food on the airplane?" She laughed.

"Right," she smiled. "I forgot you've never been on an airplane before. They do have food, Ron."

"That's good to hear," I told her and she grinned.

We reached Professor McGonnagal's office quite quickly and Hermione knocked on the door. After being told to come in, we opened the door to see Luna sitting with her face resting on her palm in he chair facing the table.

Professor McGonnagal was wearing her tartan dressing gown and her spectacles were perched on the bridge of her nose. She smiled sadly when she saw us, and we sat down.

"I assume you're ready to go?" she asked. We nodded. "Just remember that we'll be in contact at all times. Mr Malfoy will keep you updated as well. Don't make unnecessary enemies and keep your eyes and ears open. Just try to keep a low profile."

We listened carefully as she told us these things and after many more cautions, we were told we could leave.

"Oh, and Potter?" she called when we were leaving. Harry turned around. "Take this." She opened a drawer and pulled out what looked like a letter, sealed in an envelope.

Harry took it gingerly. "Who is it from?" he asked. Professor McGonnagal smiled.

"Your mother."
