Chapter 1

Ever since I could remember I wished that something bad would happen to me, just to see what others would do. Yeah sure that makes me sound like an attention whore and all, but I still thought about it. I have one of those typical lives, parents that care more about themselves, pressuring family, all my friends have left me but one, and I'm metaphorically invisible to others.

As I'm drawing this gnarled up tree a jock who's sitting behind me starts twirling a strand of my hair an asks me, "Got plans tonight baby?"

I freeze and awkwardly sit there, feeling highly uncomfortable. "Uh-um.."

"Ha ha I'll just assume that's a no." He states with a smirk, humor nearly starts dancing in his eyes. "9 o'clock meet me at the movies, all right?"

I nervously looked at him and said, "I-i can't."

He looked over at me with an amused expression, "And why is that baby? You simply can't say no to somebody like me."

I cleared my throat and said with my voice shaking, "I-i have to go to work. My shift doesn't end till 10."

"Whatever,' he said getting up and walking away.

Walking home from my shift at the cafe definably wasn't the smartest nor safest choice, but what other way could I get home with no money? I pulled out my phone to make sure I had no texts or missed calls, but as usual, nothing.

Just as I was putting my headphones in and phone away, a tall figure rams into me making me nearly fall. I continued walking and said over my shoulder, "  I'm sorry!" My day finally made a turn for the better when my best friend Kevin texted me.

hey bitch. meet me at practice and ill gv u a ride home.

By practice he means boxing practice at a restored warehouse that was closer to work than home.

                                                                                                                ok Cx b there soon!!

                                                                                                                        10:08

                                                                                                                im here on the sofa

                                                                                                                        10:22

Walking there only took 14 minutes and as soon as I walked in I sat down on a comfortable sofa. This isn't the first time Kevin had me come to the warehouse, often I would catch up on sleep even though he told me it wasn't safe. Some background knowledge on Kevin and I: we met in junior high, just before going to high school together. Yes, we dated for a while but decided it was better for us to be just friends, and yes the agreement has worked out because now instead of boyfriend he's best friend. He's the only person to have stuck by my side, and I by his. We both had difficult times fitting in with others for our differences. Kev is one of those boys you see as a bad boy that has murdered people for looking at him. He doesn't help these accusations be discouraged he just says 'let people thing what they want to'. He would deny anybody what he really is, a cuddly teddy bear protective of his bff.

As usual I fell asleep on the sofa, but instead of waking up to Kev's rants I woke up to some guy standing over me. Like any normal, awkward, antisocial person his presence startled me and just as I was going to ask him what he was doing he interrupted me.

"You're laying on my hoodie, girl," he whispered. While sitting up I looked all around me and found a dark red hoodie underneath my ribs, if he had reached for it somebody would've called sexual harassment. Handing the soft material to him I managed to mutter a sorry, my anxiety making me too nervous to look him in the face. He stood up with a huff of a laugh as footsteps came closer.

"Hey man. I see you've met my friend Delillah," Kevin said walking into the lounge. The man looked over at him with a smirk and walked away. "Oh thank the Moon he left! Listen Li (pronounced lie) he is'nt a safe person to hang around. He's here everyday training hand-to-hand and weaponry intensely!"

"Okay, yeah sure. He gave off strange vibes anyways," I said looking at the place he stood that still felt intiminating.

"Oh Li. You and your vibes," Kev said slinging his arm around my shoulders while we walked to the doors then to where he parked his 1975 Dodge Ramcharger. While buckling in he turned to me shyly, "Can I stay over tonight?"

"Of course, you know I don't mind. My offer shall always stand, you can move in any day!"  I said for the millionth time. I moved out last year at 17 with parental consent to a one room studio aparrtment. He sighed causing me to ask, "Is it getting worse?"

"Yeah," Kev said clentching his jaw. "Mom got fired for going to work drunk, calls me at 3am to pick her up from whatever bar she sees first, the usual verbal abuse. Then dad, fucking prick comes home high landing a few on us. I'm seriously done with their shit!"

I watched as he layed his head onto the stearing wheel, growling out angry breathes. I rubbed his back and switched the topic, "Did you ever take home your clothes you always leave over like I told you to?"

He straightened up and smiled at me like a 5 year old getting a barbie, "Nope!" causing me to laugh and roll my eyes.
