36.- The Seven Parts of the Key (1/2)

Arturo climbed over the mouth of the entrance to the dungeon to get a better look around. From there he saw just what he expected: a kind of shed, protected from the snow only by a thin roof.

—Over there— he pointed.

—What's over there?— asked Erica.

—A parking lot.

Erica's eyes widened. She hadn't expected there to be a parking lot outside the building... although it made sense, given that the tower was underground. Besides, it was a prison.

They quickly made their way there. It was nothing more than a very large place, with several flying ships set next to each other. The roof was not very high, but it had several hatches for the ships to exit without any problems. In one corner was a guard house, which Erica and Liliana approached stealthily. Inside was a noni in the uniform of the chained ones, reading the newsPapel. Liliana knocked him out with Brontes without any problems, then they continued to the parked ships. Among several vehicles, they came across a ship similar to the one they had been using. Liliana and Arturo went to the entrance hatch to leave as soon as possible, but Erica stopped for a long time, then climbed into the vehicle and from above began to look in all directions.

—What are you doing?— yelled Arturo in a low voice— Erica, we don't have much time!

Then the girl noticed something that caught her attention and pointed her finger at it.

—There!— she exclaimed, not bothering to down her tone— Let's go there!

Liliana and Arturo looked in the direction she was pointing, but the rest of the parked ships blocked their view. Erica jumped down, grabbed them both by the waist and dragged them at full speed towards where she was pointing at. There they found a much larger flying ship, about the size of a small house. It was painted red, had more than a dozen throttles and even had two decorative horns on top.

—This is it!— she exclaimed.

Arturo put a hand to his head as he thought about the unnecessary fuel that vehicle would use, how difficult it would be to park, and above all, that it was so colorful that the chained ones could easily find them. He wanted to explain all these reasons to his friend to make Erica understand that the small and standard ship he had chosen was much better, but Erica had already forced the door to get inside.

—Erica, no!— he exclaimed, and chased her into the ship.

Liliana simply hid a laugh, followed Arturo and closed the door behind her.

—Come on, let's use this one!— begged Erica, as she entered the cockpit.

The three of them found a cozy room with a large windshield, a pilot's seat that looked very comfortable, more armchairs in the middle, a defense system on one side and a ship's interior control system on the other side. It was equipped with all kinds of screens, buttons, levers and readers. It was a mobile marvel.

Then the girls looked at Arturo to see his reaction. He dropped his arms.

—We'll take this one— he agreed.

He immediately headed for the pilot's seat, while the girls high fived. Soon the ship powered up, lifted off, they opened the hatch at the top by remote control and took off at full speed, down the mountain.

—We did it! We did it!— celebrated Erica.

—I don't think so— said Arturo.

At that moment an alarm went off, taking them by surprise.

—What's going on?— asked Liliana.

—They realized that we are fleeing— explained Arturo— They will follow us with other ships, we will have to fight.

Erica jumped, a little excited.

—I'll find a way to shoot them!— she announced.

She immediately went to the cockpit on one side to learn how to use the missiles and laser beams.

—Lili, on the other screen should be the radar— indicated the boy.

—Understood.

The girl instantly went to the other side of the cockpit to try to understand how to operate so many machines. Fortunately for her, the radar activated on its own once she noticed that there were ships chasing them. First she saw four red dots and one green dot, then another screen opened up to the side, showing what type of vehicles they were, how many weapons they had, what speed they could reach, their maneuverability and number of restrooms.

—We are being pursued by four ships— she said— they will catch up with us shortly.

Erica, in the meantime, pressed buttons and pulled levers until something lit up. Then a screen appeared in front of her face, showing her a mechanical arm that had emerged from the side of the ship. The arm began firing in every direction except the one she wanted.

—Argh, shit!— she snorted.

She looked at the board in its entirety. She noticed a small lever moving like crazy. She quickly grabbed it and secured it in one place. With that, the firing arm stopped as well. Next to the lever were two buttons, one small and blue, the other large with a cross on top, as if it should only be used in the most precarious circumstances.

Without further thought, she pressed both buttons several times and directed the lever towards the pursuing ships. Immediately three more mechanical arms appeared and began firing with everything they had. Then a fifth one appeared, much larger than the previous ones, and fired a beam so powerful that it made them accelerate. The beam hit the ground behind them and caused an explosion. The ships behind them had to perform evasive maneuvers, but one of them flipped, rolled and crashed with its companions, which also rolled and ended up falling down the hill.

—Haha! Suck my cunt!— celebrated the brika.

—Erica!— exclaimed Liliana, hiding a laugh.

Arturo drove the ship towards the side of the mountain. From there he continued without much direction, simply advancing away from the chained ones. After several minutes of silence they assumed that their pursuers had simply lost sight of them. Half an hour later they allowed themselves to relax. Arturo activated the autopilot and they began to explore the ship. It didn't take them long to find a first aid kit, where they kept what potion they had left.

In the storerooms there was plenty of food, which they used to serve themselves a well-deserved feast. Finally they bathed and went to sleep. As on the previous ship, there was only one bed, but it was larger. They had no problem sleeping together, as by then they were used to sharing.

-----------------------------------------

The next day they got up and went to the galley to get some breakfast. After looking outside they noticed that the ship had parked at the top of a hill.

—Why did we stop?— asked Erica, worried.

—It's part of the autopilot program— explained Arturo, while he poured himself a purple liquid in a cup— it's in rest mode, so it flew until it found a stable area without monsters.

—Wow, I didn't know ships could do that— claimed Liliana.

—Not all of them, but since this is Tur's ship, it's surely one of the most advanced.

Both girls spat out what they had in their mouths, surprised.

—This is Tur's ship?!— they exclaimed in chorus.

—Didn't you wonder why it had horns?— asked the mage— I confirmed it by reading one of the documents in the control cabin. He had it made several years ago.

Liliana put her hands to her head, dumbfounded.

—Now we're in trouble— she shrieked.

But Erica shrugged her shoulders.

—Well, he's our enemy now, so it doesn't matter.

Then Papel jumped from the floor to the table and shrieked as if to prove her right. She stroked his back. Papel circled around a couple of times, perched on top of each of the teens and then climbed down and out of sight.

—He seems to like the ship— Erica observed.

They continued eating, with nothing to hurry them at the moment. Then a small rumble alarmed them. They immediately turned to the source of the noise, but it had originated in another room. Erica rose to her feet, followed by the others. They strided, guided by the noise, to the bedroom. There lay Papel on the floor, rubbing a bump next to a small safe that had not been there before.

—Where did that come from?— Liliana wondered.

They looked up. They found a secret compartment in the ceiling, it was open. There hung a thread with an earring to pull, which could easily look like an unsuspecting insect to an animal like Papel.

Liliana took him in her arms to rub him, which he seemed to like, because he snuggled into her arms confidently. Erica picked up the safe and examined it from all sides.

—What do you think it is?— she asked.

She took a finger, covered it with timitio and stretched it out until it formed a black, very sharp needle. Then she tried to insert it into the mechanism of the safe.

—You're going to break it— Arturo warned her.

—Have some faith in me, I just have to shape my timitio right and...

At that moment a "click" was heard. Erica looked confident at him, Arturo gave her back a surprised expression.

—No!— he exclaimed in disbelief.

Erica pulled out her finger along with the rest of the opening mechanism, completely shattered. Arturo put a hand to his hair.

—These things are delicate!— he demanded.

Blushing, Erica grabbed the edges of the box, buried timitio claws in it and forced it until it broke into several pieces. Inside was a holographic map and a triangular piece, like a miniature pyramid.

—Haha, you see, infallible!

Arturo sighed in disgust, while Liliana laughed with her mouth shut. They pulled out the map and activated it. It took a while to update, apparently it was something old. Finally it opened and showed a drawing of the surroundings, with a blue dot in the center right where they were. Then the map expanded, as if they were speeding up into the air to take in more space. Soon another dot appeared on the screen; a yellow dot. Above this second dot came a name: "Message from Lucifer". A path was drawn between the two dots, demarcated by a bright yellow line.

The children stared at the map for a long time.

—My dad?— Erica wondered.

—Why would Tur want to come to this place?— Arturo asked to himself aloud.

—It must be important, if he kept it so well guarded— guessed Liliana— Or maybe it's a trap?

—I don't think so. He could not have foreseen that we were going to flee and specifically steal his ship— said Arturo— I think he intended to go check this place out, if he didn't already.

—There is only one way to find out— Erica claimed.

Liliana and Arturo nodded. Arturo grabbed the map and took it to connect it to the computer's navigation system. In just a few seconds they lifted off and headed straight for the mysterious place.
