Chapter 15: The Future of the Force - 3 BBY
Dedicated to Mattchew07
Commander Kyra Kryze-Kenobi made her way down the ramp of the Phantom, which she had been repairing, and found Ahsoka Tano waiting for her.
"Well, this is a surprise," Kyra said with a smile. "Don't get me wrong, it's always good to see you, but it usually means there's trouble."
Ahsoka smirked, "What I have to say is Jedi business."
"Then I guess I qualify," Kyra replied.
Ahsoka chuckled as she and Kyra boarded the Ghost, "You qualify more than I do."
Kanan Jarrus met the two women in the room that Captain Hera Syndulla and Kyra shared, Ahsoka closing the door behind them.
Once they were alone, Ahsoka began, "I've been monitoring transmissions from Mustafar, to find out more about the Sith Lord. Information about him eludes me, but I've learned more about his Inquisitors. It seems they have a secondary mission to make retrievals."
"We know they hunt Jedi," Kanan acknowledged, "so what else are they after?"
Ahsoka sighed, "At this point, I could only guess. I managed to decode two sets of coordinates. Kyra, I'd appreciate your help investigating the first set."
When Kyra nodded, Kanan added, "And you want me to check out the second. I'm in."
When Ahsoka suggested having Ezra Bridger join the mission, Kanan chuckled and said that his apprentice was already briefed on the mission as he opened the blast door, causing Ezra – who had been leaning against it – to stumble into the room.
"Hey, guys. She did say this was Jedi business," Ezra reminded Kanan with a nervous laugh.
Ahsoka smirked and shook her head as she turned to Kanan, "Bring Zeb as well. He proved himself against the Inquisitors before."
"So, where are we going?" Ezra asked excitedly.
After Kanan, Ezra, Zeb, and Chopper left for Takobo in the Phantom, Kyra changed into her Mandalorian armor, the two women borrowing a pair of A-wings before making the jump to lightspeed. When they emerged from hyperspace, the pair found an abandoned ship floating dead in space. They boarded the shuttle and Kyra glanced at Ahsoka, the women cautiously entering a dark hallway. The lights flickered and Ahsoka ran her hand along the lightsaber marks that scarred the wall as Kyra lowered her rangefinder, scanning the corridor for heat sources and locating a woman lying on the ground at the end of the hallway.
"Help," the woman groaned, her legs pinned beneath a pile of debris. "I'm down here."
"It's okay, you're safe now," Kyra assured the older woman as she crouched beside her, gripping her hand.
"They took her. My grandchild. Please, you have to help her," the woman pleaded. "The red blades, they know she has it. Find her. She has it—"
When the woman gasped and closed her eyes, Kyra said, "Shh. Rest. You need to rest. We will find her."
The woman opened her eyes and held Kyra's gaze as she whispered, "Thank you."
The woman – yet another victim of the Empire's cruelty – closed her eyes and went still in Kyra's arms, her body going limp as she became one with the Force.
"The Inquisitors are searching for Force-sensitive children," Ahsoka said quietly, and Kyra nodded. "There must be more on Takobo. We need to find them."
The two women raced back to their A-wings and made the jump to lightspeed, hoping to reach the children – and Spectres – before it was too late. They found the rebels at a spaceport in Takobo City, under attack from the Seventh Sister and the Fifth Brother. Zeb and Kanan were lying unconscious on the ground when they arrived, and the Inquisitors were currently choking Ezra. Before they could seriously injure the boy, Ahsoka and Kyra made their presence known, strolling towards the Inquisitors as Tano handed one of her lightsabers to Kryze, the Togruta wielding the longer blade of her twin lightsabers. The white blades, which represented Ahsoka's position as neither a light nor dark side user, shone brightly in the dark night.
The women each adopted a different fighting stance, Ahsoka wielding her lightsaber in a backhanded grip, while Kyra held her borrowed saber close to her body.
"Unexpected, but not unwelcome," the Seventh Sister said as she smiled menacingly.
Kyra told Ezra to take the youngling he was holding back to the Phantom, winking as Bridger nodded and ran into the spaceport. As Kyra turned back to the apprentices of the dark side, Ahsoka vaulted through the air and landed on top of the Inquisitors' weapons, each of whom wielded a double-bladed lightsaber. Ahsoka faced the Fifth Brother while Kyra fought the Seventh Sister, blades clashing as Ezra Bridger helped Kanan and Zeb to their feet.
"We know why you want the children," Kyra said as she pushed the Seventh Sister backwards, grunting with effort because she was forced to use brute strength against the Inquisitors, who did not have to worry about their identities being revealed if they used their powers.
"Well, who doesn't want to be a mother?" the Seventh Sister replied as she lunged at Kyra.
The four opponents twirled through the air, the blades of their lightsabers moving so fast that a normal being would have had a hard time keeping up. Ahsoka grabbed the Fifth Brother by his shoulder and threw him into the nearest pillar of the bridge looming above them. As the Fifth Brother went still, Ahsoka helped Kyra fight the Seventh Sister, the two women relentlessly driving the Inquisitor backwards. When the Seventh Sister rushed towards Kyra, Kenobi deactivated Ahsoka's lightsaber and grabbed the hilt of the Inquisitor's, turning off the Seventh Sister's own weapon and wrenching it out of her hands before Tano slammed her against another column, cracking the foundation.
"You are beaten," Ahsoka declared as she pointed her lightsaber at the Seventh Sister's chest, the Inquisitor laughing darkly as she glared at the Force wielders.
As Imperial reinforcements surrounded Ahsoka and Kyra, the Seventh Sister countered, "It looks like you are the ones who are beaten."
The Inquisitor summoned her double-bladed lightsaber, attempting to stab Ahsoka and Kyra in the back. As they leapt over the saber to avoid its spinning blades, the Seventh Sister said that their capture would please Lord Vader. Before either could reply, the Phantom pulled out of the spaceport and hovered overhead.
"Tell your master he'll have to wait," Ahsoka replied before jumping onto the lowered ramp of the Phantom, Kyra quickly following suit.
Once onboard, Ahsoka and Kyra were introduced to an Ithorian named Oora and her son Pypey, as well as Alora, the granddaughter of the woman who had died on the abandoned ship.
Garazeb Orrelios, who was holding Alora, chuckled and said, "That was crazy, but worth it."
"They're Force-sensitive," Kyra informed Kanan, who sat in the pilot's seat. "I've seen this before. A Sith Lord attempted the same thing back in the Clone Wars, but the Jedi Order stopped him."
"And now there's no Jedi Order to protect them," Kanan replied, the three Force wielders turning around as Chopper held the younglings and spun around, making the babies giggle. "I guess that task falls to us now."
"I don't have a problem with that," Ahsoka Tano said, Kanan Jarrus and Kyra Kryze-Kenobi nodding their agreement.
