Chapter 3

Dinnertime rolled around, and everyone made their way down to the cafeteria. Cole nudged Jay, "Hey."

"Hi."

"So...I should probably apologise for ditching you..."

Jay laughed, "No worries, Nya showed me around."

"Okay, well normally at dinner, we either eat here, or we eat out, or we get our food and eat up in the dorms, but we gotta wait for some people. Come on."

Reluctantly, the auburn followed the taller male to the queue, where they were served with noodles and egg salad, with creamy biscuits and water. Taking their trays, they headed to the exit, where Lloyd, Nya and a guy with spiky brown hair were waiting. The guy dressed in red looked up, "Geez, about time you two showed up! Everyone else is waiting in Morro and Seliel's dorm. Let's go!"

Nya grinned when she saw Jay, "Hey!"

"Hi! That's your brother? He looks familiar to the boy in the photos."

"Yup, that's Kai. Master of Fire. Very hot-headed, cocky, but don't worry."

Ali: Might I add, protective?

They walked behind the other three, chatting excitedly, "So...you like blue?"

Nya nodded, "It's my favourite colour!"

Jay silently punched the air when she wasn't looking, "So...do you have any hobbies?" Nya asked, as they ascended the wooden steps. Jay laughed, "I dabble in a bit of everything. Poetry, lacrosse, art, writing, photography, engineering-"

"You like engineering?" Nya asked, her cheeks pink with excitement. Jay blushed and nodded, "Y-Yeah."

"This may seem odd but...I've watched lacrosse competitions with Lloyd, and it seems cool, do you think you could teach me?"

He nodded, "Sure! What are your hobbies?"

"I mean...other than engineering, I do have another hobby...promise you won't laugh?"

"I promise. What is it?" Jay was filled with eagerness. Nya laughed, "I'll show you after dinner." They caught up with Kai, Lloyd and Cole, and entered the dorm room. LED lights wrapped around the ceiling, and gave the room a purple glow. Jay could see a muscular guy with black and green hair digging into some noodles. On the other bed was a girl scrolling through her phone, her food half-eaten. She looked up, as the proper lights came on, and it was like looking into a mirror, except she had pink hair, "How long does it take to grab dinner?" She asked, twirling a chopstick around in her hand. Cole grinned and jumped on the bed next to her, "Jay, this is Seliel. Seliel, this is-"

"Jay." She finished, staring at him, before going back to her phone, "Welcome to the club."

"Um...thanks."

Cole blinked, "Anyways, you've met Kai, that's Morro, next to him is Zane, then there's Skylor and-"

"Hey, sorry! The line took forever!" A girl with blonde hair and green eyes rushed in, shutting the door behind her. Zane chuckled, "And this is Pixal, my girlfriend."

"You must be Jay. I have heard much news about you." Pixal smiled warmly at Jay, "I hope you enjoy your time here."

"Thank you."

"So, Jay, tell us about yourself!" Kai grinned, sipping some water, "Is it true you're the son of Cliff Gordon?"

Jay nervously scratched the back of his neck, "W-Well, yes..."

This seemed to peak everyone's interest, "What's he like?" Morro asked eagerly.

"Um...he's cool. He's not always around, so it was just him and my mom..."

"You're mom's an Elemental Master?"

"Of lightning, yes." Lloyd stared at him suspiciously, but stayed silent nevertheless, and ate his food quietly.

"So, tell us, Jay, how come you only came just now?" Lloyd inquired, folding his arms. Jay chuckled nervously, "Well, my mom never told me about my powers, and I shot a beam of lightning out of my hands and it caused a blackout in our house. Then later in the week we drove up here."

"Huh. Okay..." He nodded silently, leaning back against the wall. Nya stared between Jay and Seliel, "Whoa."

Seliel frowned, "What?"

"It's like a mirror reflection!" Skylor breathes, "You both look really...similar...except the hair and personality but...whoa!"

I frown and Seliel and I stare at each other. She scrunched her nose up, "Nah, I don't see it."

"Me neither." He mumbled, though...he could see what they were on about. Morro typed something into his phone, and music played through at a low background.

Cole folds his arms behind his head as he rested on Seliel's lap, "We should do something fun. How does...going out tomorrow sound?"

"Can't. I got a meeting with Wu." Seliel states, braiding his hair, and Zane shook his head, "I'm busy too. I have to finish up a report on the power of ice, and its relation to water."

They broke off into separate conversations, before slowly leaving to head back to their dorms alone, or in small groups. Nya nudged Jay, "You finished?"

"Yeah. What's your secret hobby?"

She beamed, "Let's go." Picking up their trays, they left the dorm and headed down to the cafeteria where they left their trays. Jay followed Nya to a room at the end of the hall, where inside were a number of weapons. Switching the light on, she rummaged through some boxes before bringing out a bow and arrow, "Archery!"

Jay yelped and jumped back, "Maybe a warning would be nice!"

Nya laughed, "Sorry. I'm a fan of the element of surprise."

"I can see. How's your aim?"

"It's...not bad. Want me to show you?"

The auburn laughed, "I'm probably gonna regret this, but sure." Nya grinned and gestured for him to follow her. They went out through a set of doors leading into the woods. It was getting pretty dark, and Nya checked her watch, "It's almost 8, curfew's at 10. We've got time."  They head deeper into the forest, just enough so the school's still in view.

"The forest is pretty big." Nya explained, "Quite easy to get lost, but...if you've lived here your whole life, I wouldn't be too worried." Pulling out an arrow, she strung it into the bow and positioned herself. "You see that target?"

Jay squinted his eyes; the target was a long distance away, "Yeah?"

"Watch." Taking her aim, she fired, and the arrow flew, and Nya grabbed his arm, "Let's go!"

Jay was surprised at how Nya could run for so long without stopping for a break. Back at his high school he was one of the fastest runners there, whereas here he wasn't even close. She must have noticed his confusion about this too, "You'll get a lot of training along with your elemental training," she explained once they stopped by the tree, "You need a minute?" she asked, as Jay bent over, his hands on his knees as he exhaled, "Y-Yeah."

Nodding, Nya grinned, "Look!" Jay stared at the tree to see the arrow neatly lodged in the middle of the target. "Direct hit!"

"Whoa..."

She pulled the arrow out of the target and slipped it back into the leather quiver, "You wanna go in or stay out here some more?"

Jay pondered over the decision for a while; he knew that Cole would be with Seliel, and everyone probably had their own plans. That being said, he had nothing to lose. He nodded, "Let's stay out here. Maybe I can show you some lacrosse?"

"Yes please!" she jumped up and down eagerly, and Jay laughed, taking an arrow from the quiver, "Let's pretend that this is a lacrosse stick. It's probably gonna be hard since we don't have a ball, and this doesn't have a net, but I can show you basic techniques."

"Okay!" She grasped the arrow in her hands, and Jay positioned her feet, "Now, in lacrosse, it's about targets. You gotta keep the ball in the net, and the key to doing so is good aim. But I can show you basic swinging methods."

"Okay!" He stood behind her, and wrapped his arms around her, his hands on the arrow stick too. "Okay, just step out, and swing! Yeah, see, you're a natural!"

They burst out laughing, and Jay slipped, grabbing Nya's wrist. Both of them came crashing down onto the leaf-covered floor, in peals of laughter. Once they'd regained themselves, they sat in silence, before Nya asked, "How long have you been playing lacrosse?"

"Since freshman year. I was bored, lounging around at home all the time, so I decided to get into it. How did you get into archery?"

"I was bored. Plus, my dad would take me out to shoot arrows when he comes to visit, or when I go home for the holidays. What's it like, living with a celebrity?"

Jay blew a raspberry, "Honestly, normal. But we would have paparazzi follow us around everywhere. In a way, my powers saved me."

"From what?"

"From a life I didn't want. I've wanted to finish school, graduate university with a degree in engineering, and start my own business. I had my whole life planned out, but I knew it wouldn't be possible since...my life and everything about me was on the news. I guess that's another reason about how everyone knew who I was. What about you? Your life plans?"

"Well...I've lived here pretty much my whole life." she admits, staring out, "Even if I wanted to do something with my life, I wouldn't be able to, since everything is already planned out. We're training to be the city's line of defence, their warriors, ninja. I'd be lying if I said that's what I've wanted to do my whole life."

Jay nudged her, "Then...what did you want to do?"

"Blacksmithing. Or engineering, anything building related. I love how you can be creative about it, how you can make it tell a story."

"That's true. I'd always skip out on parties, and going out with friends, just so I could stay home and build."

Nya laughed, "Sounds like something I would do."

This was supposed to be out yesterday, but I didn't update since...I was spamming (well not spamming) my oneshot/short story book but....yeah!

Bai!
